Monk Season 2 beat. Out in full force now, this season is full of episodes I love, and Sharona is at the peak of her no nonsense assistant game. It also introduced Kevin and Ambrose (the Mycroft to Adrian’s Sherlock) who I really liked, and Karen who I really didn’t.

Highlights:
||- Monk sleeping peacefully under the tree after reading Trudy’s poems during her school days.

• Mexico ep with Monk solving the impossible crime while being severely dehydrated lol! Also his fake death and Sharona knowing Adrian would NEVER go through garbage to save his life as well as Stottlemeyer’s flip flop with Adrian’s funeral haha.
• Monk going to a nude art class in the baseball ep. Also in the same ep Monk just panics and lets the dog leave.
• the goddamn ninja villainess in the circus ep. I really like her as a villain. Also Monk’s stunned face as the elephant steps on the tamer, and the damn clown following Monk.
• Stottlemeyer and Monk being roommates in hell
• the theater ep with Monk the really, REALLY bad actor lol.
• the coma suspect ep was solid all throughout, including that overly eager mailman
• loved the playboy episode. The mystery, the villain, Sharona standing up to him, the models crying after Monk read Trudy’s poem, all of it. Also, when pressed on whether Monk and Trudy had a physical relationship or sing showtuens until his session is over, he just… sang If Ever I Would Leave You from Camelot LMAO! Twice.
• the jury episode was great too, poor pipe guy tho
• Monk solving not one, not two, but THREE different crimes just by reading the newspaper is amazing. One is in France even.
• the pie guy beating Monk by sheer dumb luck. Doesn’t last long though.

Adam Wingard knows how and continues to do the best kaiju characterization in the Monsterverse. Unexpected thematics found here as well. Unironically better than Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) but not better than Kong: Skull Island (2017). The heart of K:SI, better family dynamics than KOTM, off the walls concepts and visuals and action like GvK, similar thematics to Godzilla (2014)- choice and connection— yeah this is a perfect blend of the Monsterverse.
