Thriller Bark watched. I think I liked it more overall. The contrast between the weak trio and the rest of crew with all the zombies is still funny. Middle is still a slog the moment the mysterious 3/4 showed up. Absalom sucks. Perona’s great. The moment Oars fought the straw hats to the end of Thriller Bark made the slow bits worth it honestly (even though first Luffy vs Moria was unbearably repetitive). Originally I didn’t like Shadow Asgard, but now I like it. Dude’s clearly out of his mind by the end, even though his best course of action is to… not do that and just run. I feel it felt true to his character of being overly reliant on his minions. Bink’s Brew made me tear up man. Kuma fight and aftermath always great too. And of course the mysterious Florian Triangle Entiry is a great end.
Post Thriller Bark filler just has Spa Island and Brook ep… and also sea serpent current fight. The former is a stupid 2 ep filler with a forgettable story that somehow included Foxy lol. It causes some issues with Nebulandia with Franky and Brook not recognizing Foxy but whatever. Honestly the reason I like this short filler is because the Straw Hats for some reason decided to go “ok screw this let’s just destroy everything.” From Franky immediately blasting Foxy the second Luffy gave the order to the entire crew not even complaining about Luffy’a order to destroy the place it’s just bloody hilarious and fun to see them going at it full force. Brook’s ep honestly struck a chord with me, a newbie who really wants to find his place and help his new friends. It’s nice. Sea serpent was just a fun fight against currents and weather haha but it’s fun.
Oh also I never knew Jungle P had two different animation styles. The song is one of my favorites. But the second animation feels a bit weird like it doesn’t click with the song’s segments. Also Doflamingo and Kuma’s segment is oddly animated haha. Still neat.

Having Ballister and Ambrosius be gay makes the whole queer allegory hit so much harder than if he was just cisgender heterosexual.
The setting being a highly technological medieval kingdom not only grounds the type of story that Nimona is but also elevates the messages to our age and time- especially with the use of social media and AI surveillance.
In this film, certain names have meaning: Ballister’s name being from Ballistic which not only reflects his journey being so chaotic but also reflects how he is shot and exploded to the point of breakage where another ballistic entity heals him right back. Gloreth is pure irony: ||she had glory but for a truly non-glorious person||. Ambrosius Goldenloin is the most obvious- ||it doesn’t matter, he’ll always come around in the end because he’s a golden boy sent from the literal “gods” (Gloreth) of this kingdom (ambrosia)||.
The religion of the kingdom being so vague allows the queer allegory to hit so much harder as a hidden queer in a Muslim world can easily identify with this film as much as a queer hidden in a Christian world. Ultimately, it does hint towards Christian-adjacent beliefs but that’s only because of the medieval type story.
I feel like this film also has a mental health aspect to it, obviously connected to the queer aspect but also not in certain ways. One such way is insecurity plagues every major character: Todd’s bullying stems from his insecurity that Ballister’s simply better than him, Nimona’s insecurity may be tied to her queer allegory nature but it’s also connected to trauma and out of body experiences, Ballister’s obvious initial insecurity of not being good enough for the kingdom, the Director’s insecurity of not being in control of everything ||(an obsessive mental state; which leads her to toxic behaviors like gaslighting and which would have led to half the city being destroyed)||, and Ambrosius’s obvious insecurity of trust and attachment leads him ||to mask himself hard in front of Director||.
