Part 5: From the start we had the goal being Giorno wanting to take down the boss (Diavolo) and become the new boss. As it progresses we soon get info on a team of assassins that went rogue and are after Trish (the leader of the team being Risotto). Diavolo has possibly the worst motive out of any JoJo villain, being evil because and going to absurd heights to hide his identity because, all the while being sandwiched between Kira and Pucci as far as main villains go. For his stand, King Crimson is inconsistent in how it's portrayed and you're often wondering what the limits or restrictions of the Diavolo-exclusive time are. Risotto led the strongest group in Passione, was driven out of wanting to avenge his team after they all die due to a series of events that started with Diavolo being a complete moron and paying his strongest team, who were meant to assassinate targets, incredibly poorly. Metallica's magnetism is simple yet incredibly deadly, and with it lacking King Crimson's plot-bail-out ability, Risotto having replaced Diavolo as the main villain after their confrontation would've ultimately led to a more interesting finale to Part 5.

Part 8: From the start we have tension and even a clash of sorts with Jobin, who we come to learn has done all the shady deals with the rock people so that he can save his family, avoid any sacrifice by just ending the curse altogether with a perfect Rokakaka. As said, Jobin and Gappy had tensions pretty much from the bat, and it was very interesting to see them "fight" with the beetles, and this could've worked wonders to draw a parallel from if the two had a final, proper (stands instead of beetles) confrontation at the end of the part. For Speed King, we see some of it in the confrontation, and later on have a very clear note stating how its got "some hidden abilities," which unfortunately aren't expanded upon, but could have been nice twists on the temperature tweaks. Whatever the case, from what we see, Speed King isn't an unbalanced mess.
Tooru is dropped on the story 90% of the way in, having no previous hint at him. His motive is getting the Rokakaka because that's the plot. Wonder of U doesn't work by its own rules, serving just as a poor man's Love Train in terms of how it affects the story. The swap of Jobin for Tooru is something quite puzzling given how much it blue balls previous setups.

But your analogy was that p8 didn’t take the p5 route which you essentially described as swapping out a loose ability for a well defined consistent one but it never did that. That’s why I didn’t get it. I wasn’t sure if you meant risotto or someone else or that king crimson was made clearer. As for the p8 paragraph, I agree with it for the most part(still disagree with some bits)but yeah Jobin was definitely well defined and it could’ve been interesting to see him as the main villain.
