it is very possible within the (relatively) near future
the subminds astraea and soteria are meeting up
ell, have met already
and something's fucky inside the cloudark
on top of neptune being represented by the nine
VIII is up to something presumably and it's causing cloudark electromagnetic issues according to the terminal on tharsis outpost
Am I the only one obsessed with the lore of him?
There are a few enthusiasts here and there.
Wouldn't say he's my favourite antagonist in destiny lore wise but he's definitely a cool character
This is not cannibalism. This is construction.
Imo most neglected character in d2 lore ever
straight up wasted potential
Iāll be rolling out full definitive theory on veil here soon and theory on nezarec
I did earlier but now Iāve made it better sort of
Carl the Titan would beg to differ
True actually
I had always hoped we'd get a season themed around him having to become the new Mentor Cloudstrider
Cloudstrider selection is probably a massive deal in neomuna and would probably take a lot of time given what the person becoming the cloudstrider is going to go through.
They sacrifice most of their life and according to lore are then flayed open by the device which implants all of the cybernetic enhancements into them
Clocks ticking on Nimbus as well
Even assuming they were made a Cloudstrider literally the day Lightfall released.. its been 3 years
is there any lore on what happened to the willbreaker after we killed oryx? like was it destroyed? lost? split? because that thing was probably one of the strongets weapons in lore from what i know
when we first beat him in the TTK campaign, Eris approached his sword which crumbled and left a notable shard behind
this shard was then used to forge the first legendary sword which would later be upgraded to the first exotic one
as for the rest of Willbreaker, it seems the fragments got scattered which we retrieved during the events of Heresy
then we would find the hilt during the reprised Sunless Cell strike when Xivu Arath tried using it in her ritual to try and take the Echo of Navigation from us
and so we would have the fully reforged Willbreaker which we used to destroy the Echo of Navigation
thats pretty cool, shame we never got to keep it as an exotic or soemthing tho
although i dont think that would make very much sense because form what you said it sounds like the sword itself was tied to oryx
It is a taken artefact and the whole point of heresy was using taken power but learning to remain uncorrupted.
Willbreaker while strong was a dangerous artefact
do we know anything of Hyperion (the moon) other than the Ishtar Collective was there during the golden age and traded frequently with Titan?
Hyperion?
Do you have anymore info?
the moon, one of Saturn's Moons
i see, shame... seems pretty cool... i do also wonder about saturn itself since the traveler supposedly traveled through it when arriving in the system kinda wonder what effects its had on the planet
No, there's not much else to say. Unless it's hidden deep, perhaps in old voice files, but there aren't any I'm aware of.
There's like 3 mentions of it in terms of using it as a positioning thing
the MOON
HAUNTS YOU
a titan solar hammer could a norma human hold it?
Probably, Guardians can directly control who is harmed by their Light
WHY CAN WE NOT MAKE OUR NADES NOT HARM US THEN?
I have a question for the Bungie lore experts
Say The entirety of the Guardian forces + Traveller just āspawns inā in the middle of the invasion of Reach
Do they turn the war around or does humanity still loose reach
covenant gets fucked
id say
well, they would need to take the covenant ships down somehow
cause id assume ghosts would not be immune to glassing
Covies are tough, but they have never faced anything like Guardians
All we need is like 1 fireteam of three on each ship
true
and the guardians have their ships
there's probably also just enough sufficiently strong solo guardians
I have a feeling they might actually be immune. If a monitor, the lil robots who maintain halo are able to survive then i'd assume a ghost could as well
They aren't biological and halo directly attacks nervous systems
The Covenant glass planets
Itās quite literally scorching the planet and its atmosphere with plasma lasers until the ground kinda crystallises into glass pretty much
Makes the planet uninhabitable for a long time
In Halo 5 you go to a colony that was once glassed and I believe thereās some kinda mining operation to chip away at the glass and try and reclaim and repopulate the place
Meridian I think it was called
I see. Yeah it really is just exterminatus
Basically
The halo device is actually a galaxy destroyer
Well, the halo metwork
To clarify
It wipes out all organic life in range in an indistinguishable fashion.
Thus the need to Index all the species genetic code and reseed them afterward
That bit I know. The whole halo array is designed to attack the nervous systems of every living being in a galaxy if activated.
Designed to stop the flood in particular by basically starving them of bio mass.
Iirc it was the forerunners who first activated the halo array long ago to stop the flood and then allowed automated systems to reseed the galaxy some time after.
would the flood beat the vex or not
Probably no.
Flood need bio mass to spread and the vex even though radiolaria is biological it would just break down flood DNA.
If twilight arsenal axes can be picked up by other guardians, I wonder if that means a warlock could lend another guardian their dawnblade, or a hunter hand over their arc staff.
well, a titan could lend their throwing hammer so
id assume a warlock could lend their dawnblade
Why ikora bald as hell
Typically baldness is associated with wisdom and being rooted
Warlocks are typically stereotyped as "wizard monks," monks typically being bald or portrayed as such
She's not actually bald, her head is just shaved
In Edge of Fate, we can see that she had a lot of hair before her death
Thereās not a reason for it, itās just her character design
Itās cool
I preferred his old one.
i wish we'd ever get a clue into what helmet he'd wear though
I wish more characters utilised exotics more. Like now that ikora knows who she was and that she developed the graviton lance i think it'd be cool to see her use it when she's in a cutscene next
I don't think she has the graviton lance, right?
Like, for the purposes of gameplay everyone has access to exotics but in-game they're rare and most of them literally one-of-a-kind I thought
Hive lore hits back harder than Bonk hammer
Not all no. And some exotics could definitely be replicated if they were built by a foundry.
Graviton lance was developed by Dr Nella but given what we know now with the DEO documents and Hakkes gravetic weapons it's possible they could've been the ones who made the gun
Suros regime, thorn, the colony and hard light are also examples of exotics that could be reproduced and we've had lore of a black market selling things like two tailed fox, rat king and even a telesto
What are you doing here Sepiks
Im intersted if theres anything about me yk. If Im strong as rhulk lore wise
who do you think you are you imposter
Damn
This is like that fucken sonic adventure scene
I never considered Uke could be a Sonic fan
im a "fan" but not invested
i keep up with IDW and i have played one (1) sonic game
the one with the werewolf
did you play the wii version
i think so
i dont recall
i was a wee lad when i did it
i didnt even finish it
do you plan to
no
do you think seeing this at a young age would've changed the trajectory of your life forever
my only real interaction with the sonic media is IDW and that snapcube live dub series
unfeasible
i was very unphased by weird shit in video games as a child
anyway not to pull a "bungie ripped off my scifi novel" but
there is a striking resemblance between oryx and the main antagonist of shadow the hedgehog
hammerhead 3 eyed space demon god who has a hive with an organic warship and has ventured to earth out of belief he's owed something
Well that aspect isnt the most unique part of that character given that hes just supposed to be alien satan
I believe The Witness payed The Traveler glimmer so he could get in. And I was the final shape the entire time
paid*
Sorry Defender of Bungie, I shall never say a mistake
xur just said osiris is not at the lighthouse?
he should be right next door on his data pad
if we lost our Ghost permanently, would stasis/strand still work?
will strand mediations go to postmaster
They should go straight to inventory
Intriguing
Yes
You don't need a ghost, or to have had a ghost, to use Darkness
yes, see: osiris and zavala
oh wait im on the wrong channel
The lore calls to you Conan
so im halfway through the equilibrium quest and i have a question
does anyone adress that the praxics are using the sword logic just as hard as vales dredgen were?
aight
how exactly?
direct quotes from anor mahal in this quest
"as praxics we undergo trials to hone our edges"
Sword logic
that's...
But they burned away in my solar light, and i didnt thats a lesson for you"
Sword logic
that's not what that means
this is the sword logic
I think that's just regular training
there is a major ideological difference here
which is
yes one embraced the darkness as a source of power and one didnt but even when not
Sword Logic is about the idea that existence is the struggle to exist
there is an inherent cynicism to it
"i lived and they didnt thats a lesson for you"
Praxics have a very zealous view of Light and Dark
they do
and the fact that the darkness is not incompatible with the praxic fire
this is not me saying "They worship the dark" it is me saying the ideology at play here is still the sword logic. that they are just as reliant on the edge that cuts as vale was.
Light and Dark are not tied to any sort of ideology
the sword logic is tied to the darkness
they are tools shaped by their wielders
it always has been
that's just Big Salvation propaganda
Sword Logic is merely a way those like the Hive harness Dark-aligned power
And Sword Logic is also a more general/universal/social (?) philosophy
even if thats true.
it is a fundamentaly hive philosophy and you can see it IN the praxic order here
and again, Praxics aren't going around making throne worlds or shouting "aiat"
Sword Logic is "I defeated you, therefore I am more worthy of existing than you were and I am stronger than you were". The Praxics would not inherently see themselves as stronger because they defeated someone, rather, that quote is more about Aunor finding strength in the same light that burnt her enemies and the darkness away
The big thing about separating sword logic from other stuff is that its not just "i defeated you bc i am stronger" in isolated scenarios
it's the actual philosophy of it taken to a universal level
Sword Logic includes directly getting stronger from killing as well
Not to be confused with the idea of the final shape
Like, ultimately the point of the Praxic Fire is still to defend humanity, they just see Darkness as inherently dangerous to that mission
depends on whether or not you're talking about the Hive/Winnower's version of it
Sword Logic entails believing that there will ultimately be a single thing that was stronger than everything
and the point of the Equilibrium dungeon quest is to ||prove to the Praxic order that they can harness both Light and Dark||
Yup!
Like I mentioned I think its better to interpet Mahal's line as as referring to the solar light burning her enemies and protecting her
Which is an ongoing theme with solar warlocks
Only in the most baseline way of looking at it. Sword Logic is more than just "fight and die and the living become stronger".
To encompass Sword Logic, you must view death as necessary. Those that died deserved to die, those that may kill, must kill. Every death sharpens the universe, hones it.
Praxic may be zealots, but they're Guardians. They live to protect the Traveler and the citizens of the Last City. They protect the weak, as is their duty. The Sword Logic doesn't encompass this. If they are weak, they should be dead. In fact, the Praxic should kill them.
I realise this person has already left the server but hey ho
They appear to have left :/
Wild wtf
Actually really good way to explain it!
To encompass Sword Logic, you must view death as necessary. Those that died deserved to die, those that may kill, must kill. Every death sharpens the universe, hones it.
Me when I'm playing Armsweek Hardware and I missed my Tungsten Bowstring shot while my enemy lines up theirs (and thus the logic met either way, aiat)
I never thought about it but the hive are extremely vile to their weak
I really like that Aiat thing
What was it, "A question that is itself the answer"?
a Knight lost his arm trying to stop the Guardians from obtaining the means to reach Oryx back in TTK and he got treated like shit
Aiat.``` - Eris Morn
Well
not Eris
man, the Hive do not believe in supporting disabled vets
"Hey Guardian it's me, Eris" - Savathun
"Hey Guardian it's me, Medusa" - Savathun
"Hey Guardian it's me, Quria" - Savathun
"Hey Guardian it's me, Dul Incaru" - Savathun
"Hey Guardian it's me, Medusa" - Savathun
"Hey Guardian it's me, Eris" - Savathun
we love TTP
Truth to Power lies to us but in an endearing way
and the unexpected Marathon reference in the middle of it
TTP was so banger
Martian Missives lies to us but in an infuriating way
They should make a destiny TV show but it should be exclusively written by whoever the fuck they got writing the lore books
Yeah Martian Missives didn't actually... accomplish anything. TTP actually had a message.
exactly
MM was just there to be like "lmao hey guardian kill osiris he's still eeevil"
has zero substance
A lot of the big fan favourites were Seth Dickenson
He's an accomplished writer and is currently contracted for Subnautica
the only lore book worse that MM was Tales of the Forgotted Volume 3
then Tales of the Forgotten Volume 4 came in clutch only for Bungie to not give us a Volume 5
Volume 3... like, I like slice of life lore. But...
fucking Scooby-Dooby-Doo-Doo ahh shenanigans
I'd say it's part of the reason I don't really care for Archie
he's a good dog don't get me wrong, but man he's had some abysmal writing
True enough. Admittedly, I'm still not entirely on board with Archie, ah... like, existing? It always struck me as odd.
also R.I.P. to the dog he was based on
It was a make a wish, wasn't it?
I have no idea. I meant in-context.
I'm down for fuckery lore if its for a good cause
Oh no yeah i was hella not on board until I found out
Then it was like yeah okay we can have a little dog
I kinda like fuckery lore, but Archie's fuckery lore just doesn't hit
I still want Failsafe to get off of Nessus.
Sure, she linked up to the HELM, but she's actually still on Nessus.
You know how people who are really annoying want Failsafe to "get a body" and be an exo, i want Failsafe to get a thousand bodies (and a thousand eyes and a thousand arms)
Wire her up across the solar system
Insane to me that canonically they just leave her there
Stick her core into the HELM
She's literally a ship's failsafe safety AI
She's a golden age AI at the end of the day
Like that's honest to god one of the few living survivors of the collapse
By any means one of the most advanced pieces of technology in the world
And she's just
There
Rotting away on Nessus where a particularly well-planning Eliksni crew could cut the right wire and kill her
And I can't even say it's strange because Astraea and Soteria are also kinda like, just there? They linked but they're like
They're just there
Buddy you gotta put them somewhere else
Well Soteria's a different story I'll give her that
One part of her is basically braindead and running on baseline core functions in the Hierarchy of Needs and the other half is safe and contained in the Neomuna network
But yes Astraea is just
Aboard a derelict empty station
We even repaired her and helped her regain full functionality
And then still left her there
my insane copium is they're setting up for the three major currently relevant golden age AIs to start rebuilding Rasputin's network, or building a new one entirely
Oh, also!?
Firewall!
Well someone's gotta tell me I have unauthorized gear
Like yeah sure Firewall's a "dumb" AI but Firewall's still active too!
Well, would it be dumb, still?
It was dumb during the golden age but then so was Failsafe
I may be fuzzy on this, my shadowkeep-lightfall lore is weak
Not to the same degree. Failsafe was more advanced from the get go.
All the Exodus AIs were fairly advanced. In theory, they were the ones who'd be commanding SIVA to build a colony settlement.
Regardless, Firewall's just out there on the Moon, existing, abandoned.
I hope they do more with all of them at some point
I ADORED failsafe's writing in Echoes
Like I always thought the idea of Failsafe getting a humanoid body was silly
The descriptions of Failsafe interacting with things through screens and error messages and assorted little tweaks and bits of her connected hardware was so good
It's partially 'cause she's expressed interest in it before.
If I adored Rasputin as an egotistical, unknowable, all-potent eldritch techno-god, I adore Failsafe for her humanity in a context that is entirely inhuman
The lore tab where she gets startled by a vex head she's trying to get info out of and unplugs it in a panic and just exists there in an empty room, scared, was so fucking good
I do get that but I always felt like it would have been a waste
Thankfully it doesn't look like Bungie seems very interested in doing that so far
Anyway what I'm saying is
She can have a little warsat
As a treat
hooking failsafe up to the warsat network and having her send them after xivu arath and not having it labeled as war because she was just crashing the warsats like how she did her ship on nessus
I'm in the same boat. Does kind of feel like a bit of a waste but generally I do hope we get more from failsafe. Her comeback in echoes was one of the best parts of that episode imo.
Maybe once the helm is back up and in the air she could make a return
Hey speaking of funny edgy Hive related guns, @remote cove
What do you know about Xenophage
Or Deathbringer
I'm not sure I'd call Xenophage Hive-related
sure the circumstances in which we obtain it and how it is being powered are linked to them, but the weapon itself is a Guardian's weapon and is still powered by his Light
Poor Omar just too angry to die even after being turned into a beetle
I mean if i got turned into a beetle I'd probably be too angry to die too
Actually, on Omar, are there any other characters who share a name? Because there's Omar Agah (Eris' fireteam) and Omar Saint Croix (Hidden Agent)
Louis (Hawthornes bird) and Lodi (Louis Yero)
Oh yeah that was a lore tab
Marco I think
Marco (Eva Levante's husband[I think])
Marco (guy who blew himself up along with Rhulk's remains)
Was that rhulks remains? Lore tab makes it sound more like some rampant egregore or something. Like an infectious substance.
His ragged breath caught, and he looked for the sample containers, packed so carefully and cautiously by the Guardians who'd survived the raid on the Throne World Pyramid.
It's likely what was remaining of rhulk with his body and the darkness roots
Well I was going to elaborate about the Fireteam but the guy never responded
You know I know the story
True. Could've definitely been that. Though given rhulk being a collector I wouldn't be surprised if he had other dangerous things stored in his pyramid.
We not too long ago found oryxs chisel there to.
With the guardians being the ones to be the ones having packaged it, I think it's most certainly rhulks remains
The hidden took control of the operations within the pyramid and I think it would've been specified if it was them who had got the sample
Plus, it's not like living after death is too uncommon for those communed with the dark
"Discipleship" definitely involves being reshaped by the witness to an extent it seems given that rhulk and nezarec both die in the same way as the witness
Roots sprouting from them
Oh yeah true. Forgot about ol daddy calus lol
Also yeah the concept art definitely paints a bit more bloody picture.
Also, the mention of the black witness liquid gives credence to the idea of the sample being rhulks remains
Probably couldn't do the whole streaming wine-blood thing without increasing the rating
Having a mutilated corpse constantly pooling blood is a bit more gorey then the norm..
It's more about imagery blood or not.
I would love it if destiny did get a lil more violent but I sadly know ratings prohibit that from happening

I mean both d2 and marathon share a t for teen
And marathon's got decomposing corpses in it
Yeah but it's not the gross kind where you see innards and rotting skin.
Marathons decomposition is just "Oh look that corpse has mushrooms all over it" and in destinys case it'd be like how we found katabasis body in presage overtaken by egregore
Just compare the Vex to the rest of the species
Bungie gets away with all their limbs getting scattered because they be robots
It's an age old trick for cartoons
Hence the TMNT actually being able to use their weapons and stab Foot ninjas (all robots)
erm, aksualy
:)
ye
It's rated M over here in Australia because of online interactivity and fantasy violence.
I don't understand it either sometimes.
Way more messed up things to worry about keeping away from young audiences
Some grumpy old man somewhere hating those newfangled contraptions
Delve into the history books
You see those types hating rock and roll D&D... and PokƩmon
Hell
Comic books got screwed over for a long time because of a bullshit "study" they used to justify the comics code
I know it won't happen but I wish younger folk were able to get into higher positions so that when changes of that size were made it's not made by someone whose 60+ year old brain can't understand it therefore labelling it as dangerous
New things scary
Yes I play games outside of work and I take time off work to play games I like when something I've been waiting a long time for comes out.
"Back in my day we did nothing but work, you guys don't know what real work is, now help me up because all that work caused over a dozen medical issues leaving me unable to live on my own"
A lot of them somehow come to the conclusion that depiction is glorification
Thus Doom somehow being pro Satanism
You know.. the game where your blasting demons with a double barrel shotgun and a BFG?
Not everything is political. Crazy thought but when I play a video game I'm not thinking about that at all I'm just shooting some aliens
They even tried a few times to Censor WW2 games
Where them Germans at the time are pretty much the universal enemy to shoot at
They don't like Wolfenstein.
Wonder how much they'll retcon that spin-off coop game
I hope they make a final boss that isn't pure fucking dogshit
All of the nu-wolfenstein games just have awful final bosses
In the same way that lightfall calus is just bad
Or levaszk
Or lume
Damn the fates saga is 0/2 on final boss fights I forgot that
I actually like Levaszk.
He's a great character!
But his boss fight is just gimmicky
he's hilarious
I know everyone hates matterspark but I liked it in the boss fight.
It was a good use of it yeah
I love that trope of a character who's so delusional they're disliked by most of the cast, but carry their delusions with so much confidence that it comes off as charming to the fanbase
But levaszk himself being such a lame threat and the weird arc damaging enemies was really lame
there is the implication that he is still alive
The implication being him speaking directly
Idk if you've seen the movie but he reminds me of that Mole from Legend of the guardians.
Just says "Twas foretold" to every single argument or if someone gets mad at him.
I hope levaszk gets a chance to redeem himself as a threat but I fear it may be another eramis situation
Cool eliksni character who has a weak boss fight that will be relegated into doing things purely in the background
"Oh look Guardian, these refugees from House Exile on Kepler brought a large stockpile of Ether with them to share with us, they're so kind."
Eramis isn't corrupted though and can at least think logically for the most part even if her hate for guardians gets in the way.
Levaszk I'm afraid is probably very far gone and will most likely keep trying to create a singularity of sorts to become "House eternal" as he says.
Dark matter infected ether rotted his mind away.
We gonna have the eliksni of the tower all shaking like it's pluribus
Not redeemed as in like a redemption arc I mean redeemed as in "can you not be lame as fuck in gameplay please"
||Ether infused with the Dark Matter fungus on Kepler is what allowed Levazsk to body-steal the rest of his house. Imagine the damage he could do if he tricks Eliksni in the tower into ingesting it.||
||the half-alive remnant of nezarec still chilling in mithrax and levaszk fighting for custody over his body||
It really is nuts just how much damage Maya has caused.
With IIIs death she did the equivalent of throwing a corpse into a river, that corpse (III) then contaminates the ether the eliksni need to survive and it drives a whole house mad leading to a possible black hole.
And she didn't even intend any of that
We love irresponsible power-hungry villains messing with things beyond their control and accidentally fucking up beyond belief in turn
We stan Maya in this house
https://tenor.com/view/it-pennywise-locker-gif-9214854736273028773
Levazsk taking control over Mithrax's body only to find Nezarec chilling in there:
Damn I do need to watch welcome to derry
you know, it would also be a nice opportunity to reintroduce the Mindscape
Nezzy gonna be giving out comfortable advice like "DON'T THREATEN HIS DAUGHTER IN HIS OWN BODY" and "DON'T THREATEN TO DOCK THE SOLE MEMBER OF HOUSE JUDGMENT"
like say, we go into the mindscapes of afflicted Eliksni civilians and expunge Levazsk's presence from their minds
Using the synaptic spears as anti-fungal syringes
And we throw them at projections of levaszk
It's time to get silly, bungie
Add in the among us game mode we're all waiting for
fuck those missions
probably gonna be worse than the defiant bgs
Does anyone remember what the trailer that at some point has like, a cut from a player falling into Vault of Glass with a rocket launcher?
I'm tryna find it but I cannot
TFS cinematic trailer I think
The one that played at the start of the reveal stream
I'm not caught up with lore if it comes to lore books and only played seasonal stories and campaigns, so here's my question...
do we know anything about when/how are we going to go after now-mortal (since Season of the Witch, around 2.5 years ago) Xivu Arath?
The IX are cool and all, but we have some unfinished Hive business
Not yet no. After season of the witch the last we saw of Xivu was in heresy trying to claim the echo of her brother. We stopped her via destroying that echo and haven't heard from her or even savathun since
The IX are our current focus but I believe Xivu or Savathun will get up to something soon.
does anyone knows whats that thing rhulk has in his floor
i see the original lubraes ruin dissasembled back there but idk what the worm thing
Pretty much exactly that. Worm! Rhulk is the Worm Father.
oh
i thought worms all around the pyramid were enough
and he only held something significant that close to him
sometimes you gotta turn your children into home decor idk what else to say
Never enough wormage
fun fact, the Gerrymandered Hive Worms you see throughout Rhulk's Pyramid are still alive
wait
How?
probably some Final Shape-esque bullshittery
iirc each segment of the worm is experiencing something different
kind of like when the Witness took that one Psion and split him up into multiple versions of himself each feeling a different version of his own trauma from Torobatl
Kind of like the what now?
yeah, the Witness does some messed up shit to create Dread units
Imagine your arm is feeling depression, your head feels joy, or leg feels trauma, etc
Ah, that'd be why: haven't done it yet
the part about the worms specifically comes from the 3rd art book
Fun
If you think about it, the reason the traveler won in the end is the same reason william afton (from hit game five nights at freddy's) survived
survived
Clearly, Destiny is just a very elaborate FNAF AU by Bungie
Let me explain
the foe's (golden freddy/the witness) hatred for the perpetrator (william afton/the traveler) drives them to pursue the perpetrator, but that hate also makes them torture and take advantage of the perpetrator instead of killing them decisively (ultimate custom night/manipulating and assaulting sol's residents) which ends up giving the perpetrator time to make a comeback
See it all makes sense
Actually come to think of it, why didnt the witness just kill us all when it had the chance
We were rummaging through the physical manifestations of its memories
It shoulda been pissed at us
wanting to torture the traveler and also grappling with the traveler resisting
Ok so i checked the wiki again
Plot Armor.
From what i understand, when it arrived in sol, it bumrushed the traveler and tried taking control from the start. While it was doing that in the traveler, its memory of creation was given form because of the light inside the traveler, since physicality is the domain of the light.
The traveler gave us light swords to kill the physical memories, which weakened it, since its a gestalt of consciousnesses.
In the raid, we push it away while its distracted with the traveler, and then we do the memory killing thing again during excision, which made it weak enough to die to a light blast.
Did i get that right?
Actually come to think of it, alot of the witness' own actions caused its death.
- being a weave of minds for the sake of concentrated power made it vulnerable to dissenters and disassembly
- trying to one up the traveler by manipulating the hive turned savathun against it, so then she faked the traveler's death which saved the traveler
- entering the traveler made its memories physical, leaving its minds vulnerable to the travelers machinations
It's worth noting the witness isn't a "person" in the usual sense it is a whole civilisation calcified and merged into a single ideal that doesn't think about anything else.
All the witness desires is to bring about the final shape, it is incapable of understanding why we would resist what in its eyes is salvation.
So when it entered the traveler it definitely was not thinking about its memories being manifest in the pale heart or anything like that. The goal was make the traveler suffer and then use it to bring about the final shape
Please don't tell me it was destinypedia
I saw a reddit post and made an amalgamation of all the top comments combined with what i remember from the campaign
I got distracted and forgot to check destinypedia
Keep forgetting
Its
Bad
Like outdated innacurate or just straight up innacurate
That does make sense. It's a very "human" weakness - tunnel visioning on one thing
Extremely vague. Very baseline knowledge on most things in destiny which ends up skipping a lot of key elements to help understand lore
Thinking on it again, the fact that it was made up of many minds made it vulnerable to chaos. Both in the sense of the gardener's will, as well as the fact that a whole bunch of people is naturally just chaotic since everyone is an individual
Oh that makes sense
But see this isn't tunnel vision either. It is physically incapable of escaping that mindset. The witness is a singular purpose in the form of an actual being.
No emotions or anything. The witness viewed that as useless so it was cut away.
It even says it has done away with fear and even in its final moments it only said it doesn't understand. Again it is incapable of understanding
A much more primal kind of thinking.
ooooh so it's like
Innate tunnel vision, not even a human kind
Yes.
Imagine if all you could think about was going to work, day in and out you go to work and when your shift is done you sleep. You don't think about life outside of work or anything like that not because you don't want to but because you physically can't think about it.
No wonder there were dissenters
Dissenters wanted release from it. Considering a lot of precursors were also forced unwillingly into the ritual that birthed the witness.
Chaos was already there before the witness was even born
Something about self fulfilled prophecy
Many factions in the precursor civilisation had different interpretations of the final shape and whether or not it was right to intervene in the cycle of the universe.
Even after the traveler fled their world after they tried to integrate the veil into it
Was every raid we've done planned out or are some of them done as a last desperate act?
like vow of the disciple for example
no
vow wasnt
vow wasnt planned?
Some raids are planned, others are "oh shit we gotta fucking go RIGHT NOW"
DSC wasnt entirely planned out, we figured out eramis' forces were fucking around there so we hauled ass
Oryx was mostly us chasing after him after he fled iirc, crota was us trying to prevent him from enacting his siege on earth
(crota and oryx were my favorite villains)
yeah I figured both of those were more planned out than not
Deepstone we assume is rushed

DSC happens quickly because we did not know until it was pretty much in the middle of happening
We know the fallen forces were in DSC before the campaign and were active 3/4 into it due to Eramisā commands for Atraks
They at least prepped taniks and made an exo suit for Atraks
Crota was pretty immediate right? Bc we prevent him from being revived and then haul ass to the bottom of the hellmouth to try to kill him while he was at his weakest
(hence why he's mostly oversoul in the raid)
we can reasonably assume that the amount of time between the main content release and the raid release is how much time canonically passed between them
after all, Cayde's death was canonically on a Tuesday which directly coincides with pretty much every other major content release
though Red War is a notable exception because we know the Red War was at the very least several weeks
plus D2 released on a Wednesday if I am correct
hmmm, maybe that;s why the Legion caught us by surprise
depends on what you mean by planned
none of them we have any idea what's actually going on there aside from maybe the 1st or last encounter just by the nature of the mission
like obviously we went to Kings Fall to kill Oryx, but we had no idea he'd send out his daughters and the family dog before making himself huge
Actually doing the raid was ofc planned but everything we found within those raids we weren't prepared for.
Salvations edge did have us prepping though and even seemed to have story centred around us prepping with the whole (insert number of days before final shape) ghost missions
Is there any particular reason why the taken in the pale heart have the yellow "eye" instead of the typical bluish one?
think cod zombies
orange resonance=controlled by witness
bluish grey=controlled by the hive
cyan white=controlled by the lord of every nothing
Ohhhh ok, that kinda makes sense. Thank you!
Now that savathun is properly pissed at us I wonder what she'll try and do to destroy us.
Obviously something related to trickery but she's never actually tried to hurt us with full intent. We've just been pawns to her and have lost a lot because of her plans.
Like what does an attack from savathun the witch queen look like?
Any time weāve seen her attack anything, itās been Blitzkreig-style overwhelming numbers. But Iām sure sheāll get some fancy light devouring toy because I guess everyone has one now.
it'll likely be a shit ton of hive guardians
psure the only enemies that can stop us from using abilties are the dread's grim, the hive's t*tans and the dread/shadow legion's tormentors
also the special suppressors in lightfall
And whatever Nightfall was
Itās also not unlikely that she dug up some old thorn tech somewhere in the world, donāt remember the Osteo Striga lore but that thing just kind of popped up without warning
As the Hive god of cunning and trickery, I doubt a full on assault would be anything more than a distraction from what she's is actually doing in the background.
Dont one of the scorn people have suppression?
Also the humble psion cage technology
Ah this makes sense now!
Because I'm going back through to make a history of the Eververse store, I'm now up to Season of the Drifter and I'm vaguely recalling a quest related to him. Something where we had the option to betray him and tell the Vanguard something or to keep quiet. It was a whole "Drifter will remember this" thing. What was the outcome from that? Was there even an outcome and Bungie just promptly forgot about it?
He calls you a snitch if you sided with the vanguard
...is that it?
Drifters not the type to be vengeful unless you kill his lover or something.
aka Bungie kinda just forgot about it
or you put him in a scenario where he has a little girl die in his arms
I think thatās cynical
The reality is probably just that they realised having these choices does not really work for Destinyās storytelling
Otherwise stories would have to be written in multiple ways to account for deviations in choice and how that affects events or a characterās relationship with the Young Wolf
No. It was an experiment.
It wasn't forgotten, it was specifically dropped as a mechanic.
Mithrax is an example you could also point to of that mechanic of choice being dropped
Players could choose to kill Mithrax in his first appearance, but then later if Bungie want to actually make a story, this choice element just doesnāt work
So Mithrax is canonically alive and spared by the Guardian
"the reports of my death were.. greatly exaggerated"
Oh?
Cayde's horn cut an arc through the air as he shook his head, twice, definitive. "Trust me. He's dead. Put a hot one right through here." He poked Variks right in the center of his chest.
"Seen on Earth. I have knowledge. I have information. You know Eliksni have ways. Like Mithrax? Like Taniks?" The warden realized his error as soon as the name was out of his mouth.```
From "Some Kind of Luck" in Most Loyal
I think there was another reference to this elsewhere, but I can't remember where it was from
Fikrul.. lives.. sigh..
he was a good Villain, I wish they did more with him
Man I need to finish writing about echoes just so I can have a multi-page rant about how wasted of a character fikrul was
What's stopping the outer nine from just gifting another nightfall station
We don't know what the outer nine are capable of yet. Maybe they could, maybe they can't.
However VI is the most violent of the outer orbits so them giving their "Emissary" a weapon able to kill guardians permanently fits them.
The other outer orbits would be looking for other alternatives. VIII for example is studying the veil for options. VII we still have no clue about really.
One thing we can confirm about all of them at least is that they view us as "jailers" who should be removed to allow the outer nine to escape existence through the singularity they attempt to create.
Also even the Nightfall station still had to be constructed, the only reason just suddenly existed from our perspective was because they build it within a pocket dimension where time was different
So they still took god knows how many years making the damn thing and would need that if they wanted to make a 2nd one
Can't imagine one of the nine could also just pop another "eclipse core" into existence as well since we destroyed the original one.
Just speculation but something like that doesn't seem like an easy feat to bring into the physical world.
The star wars collab is over so im guessing they wont make a second one, not to mention that the pocket dimension shit wont work now that the vanguard knows about it
That's not something the vanguard can control. We can't control time to any extent without using stuff like vex tech.
There could be many pocket dimensions but we wouldn't know until something came out of one of them.
It's more like surveillance. Ikora definitely has some hidden watching shit now since the massacre on tarsis
She had hidden scattered around before that as well. Drifter was the one who saw the Barant imperium come out of nowhere in the first place.
Sure we might be more prepared but that doesn't stop other threats from using that tactic to hide.
We destroyed the core which was gifted by VI so its lethality is definitely a non factor now.
Maybe some still exists but there's no way it could be used in the way it was with nightfall station again.
If I had to guess the most I could see from it atp would be Bael having like an eclipse grenade or something much smaller in scope with what little access left he might have.
I bet with the new hand bael gets, it has like eclipse hand chokes or something
Most of his body has already been made into metal by VI but none of it actually serves any purpose. He's in constant pain and is only getting more and more disfigured as VI is using him.
If he gets another hand I doubt it would be something he could use. Just more pain on top of what he already deals with
He is VIs pawn, nothing more.
Something something pain leads to hate, hate leads to anger
Weve seen the shtick, we iust dont know how it'll translate to destiny
Bael actually has probably one of the most valid reasons for being as angry and as hateful of guardians as he is.
Lost his mother as a boy, traveler then brings her back and when he tries to hug her she shoves him away because of course guardians have no memories of their previous lives.
So in his eyes the traveler basically flaunted his dead mother in his face not to mention his abusive father and almost dying to a hive guardian.
Now he is destiny's equivalent of a terrorist and a guardian murderer hellbent of wiping out guardians both in service to VI and his own agenda.
At least decades iirc
Three years-ish in real time I think
And enough time to build allat, develop new dredgen tech, and rework Tex Mechanica prototypes into laser beams
Lore
Idk if anyone here plays the division 2 but I kinda find it funny how similar the eclipse energy in Destiny is to the eclipse virus used by Aaron Keener in the WONY expansion for the division.
Both red
Both incredibly lethal on contact.
Both used by complete psychos
Both unable to be countered except for the obvious solution of getting away from it.
Probably because Ubisoft has room temperature IQ story ideas so Bungie could nick some unofficial story beats to graft in.
(Keener monologues as much as Bael lol)
Iām sure Div 3 and Destiny 3 will both be uncompromisedā¦
Sure but the more obvious parallel, to me, is that of the Death Stars and the Starkiller base
Those legit killed planets
And the reason Eclipse didn't is because that'd ruin the whole point of the saga
They can't just blow up Mars after immediately telling us to "Bind the Nine"
Even if eclipse zonks the traveler, itās the great machine. We donāt know if āthe lightā is its power source
(While it would be funny if the traveler gets hit and it just lands on the last city)
But with ātakenā planets like IO they could technically do a switch of planets. Would be cool but unlikely due to needed resources
What
Some planets have been ātakenā, and thus are under the control of the 9
Byf yapped about it all and yas dreaming real big
That's still not what happened
Io and the rest that "disappeared" were moved by the Witness. They were not "taken" Oryx style and most certainly not by the Nine
Furthermore, I'm pretty certain all of them are considered "back" now after the Witness's defeat
Even if we haven't seen them/been to them
While I tip the hat I know Allison alluded to the nine having stepped into that gap. But it was said quickly so your points stand
The light isn't its power source, its just what it uses
Realistically if we believe the Veil is part of it then it would be able to use darkness as well
It's a primordial force, a rule of the universe that manifested its will for the purposes of not being bored.
That said it is also like, very destroyable
It was damaged in the collapse, then shattered, then it healed and now it has a big hole in it and its guts all blended up
The cinematic showed it being split in half and destroyed rather than it removing the light from it
To be noted that it isn't affected by gravity
Io is the only place missing
They just meant the ascendant realm, most likely specifically VI and its workings with hive sword logic
We visited it in the Ascendant Plane during Heresy. Still don't know where it physically is
Yeah its in the ascendant plane like the other planets and moons where
It just hasn't fallen out of it yet
Frankly the vanishing of two planets, and less so two moons, should've had far greater orbital implications than it did but I think we can all sweep that under the rug for the sake of "because video game"
Oh they explained that
Since it would've affected the Nine
Basically the celestial bodies were gone physically but the gravitational forces they exerted were still present and behaved normally
Present in the form of the anomalies that replaced them, yeah
Bungies fav lore words
Paracausal
Anomaly
Aiat
Sarsion presented me with a fascinating train of thought the other day. By and large, from a certain point of view, we misuse paracausal nearly every time we refer to it.
Light and Dark are inherent to the universe and can act in entirely causal fashions. It's our manipulation of those forces that is paracausal, rather than the forces themselves.
Unveiling trained us to think of the forces as alien, introduced, but they've existed alongside the universe for as long as it's existed even by Unveiling's own book.
I'll need to go over the conversation again I think I've misrepresented it haha
One of the very first things said in the new light campaign is that this universe is made up of light and dark. But it's the beings in that universe who are more paracausal than the forces themselves. Light already causes things to grow but the traveler is able to use light to accelerate that whole proccess
Darkness connects us all as beings in that universe through mind and will but it's beings like us and some other who can see this hidden part of the universe and interact with it
Nimbus even brought this up once how we could see strand in many places throughout neomuna but nimbus couldn't
yo i got a question, is a warlck using a Arc element golden gun possible? obv ik it would not be called golden gun but
Theoretically, yes
Ehhh
realistically? no
In lore, all light abilities are not restricted to any class, and light manifests in theoretically unlimited amount of ways
Thatās not true
It is all subject to the natures of the light specifically used
the former part is partially correct
the latter is outright incorrect
You probably couldnāt make an arc disintegration gun, maybe something closer to a railgun or discharging beam
You mistake arc light for outright electricity
Thereās dialogue from Crow that rules out the idea of Warlocks being able to use a Golden Gun. Pretty much every single Guardian we know fell into the class system pretty naturally, even ones who werenāt introduced to the doctrines and their names and just displayed their class traits immediately after being resurrected
I do not
Felwinter?
a shoulder charge is a very, very different feat compared to a golden gun
I should tag @trim grotto in for this because I know heās passionate about this topic/|debate lmao
And if you read my following comment, you know that I knew this
I said, ur probably not making an arc golden gun specifically
There are extremely few and sparing exceptions, such as Hunters managing to learn to blink. I think Mael has an explanation or theory to the Felwinter thing too haha
Point is that largely the classes are actually the classes in lore, and thereās not much crossover (unless you want to count how Witch Queen/Light 3.0 started making grenades available to all classes as a lore thing)
These exceptions usually follow some specific connection between abilities. Hunters being able to arc blink is because they are manifesting the concept of blinking through the credence of arc
Blinking is a concept that can both be explained by law of arc and law of void, through different interpretations of that concept
Solar is very poignant and instanced, arc is very eclectic and fluid through time, void is evasive, spacious, and potent.
A golden gun works through solar uniquely because neither arc or void represent a precise intent.
But arc could likely maifest into a rapid and unrelenting rifle or machinegun. Could a warlock do this? Not very effectively, but its not impossible.
Guh hello what's up
I'm on lunch break in 12 mins
Somebody asked about an arc golden gun
I'll weigh in when I get my nibbles
I'm on shift still haha
Enjoy
I mean, when Forsaken launched, we got void bladedancer
My justification for that would be something along the lines of, void represents evasion and avoidance as the āstealth assassinā similarly to how arc represents speed and agility as a ādextrous bladedancerā
Like at a barebones level, whats the difference between any of the solar roaming supers
Well, there's a couple of points to look at for this particular debate, and it's certainly an interesting one to look at
I'll open with a forwarded message from a very similar debate from a few days ago back over in the Cryptarchy - it won't cover every point here, so bear with me
This doesn't quite cover "can we make an Arc Golden Gun as a Warlock", however
I wouldn't outright say it's impossible - Chaos Reach is already a form of directed Arc energy, even if it isn't quite as precise as a Golden Gun's bullet. It's halfway there, really.
This was essentially my conclusion as well. Arc could manifest into some sort of rifle or a machine gun, a torrent of bullets (get it
)
We have seen the Golden Gun manifest in weapons other than handcannons, and you could argue that's essentially what Radiant is, too.
The real debate here comes in the form of the minutia and the hypotheticals that nobody can really prove - could it and would it.
Controlling Arc is taming the storm, but a storm it remains. It's naturally chaotic, and every class handles it differently. This difference is showcased with the way each class wields it.
Could Arc be formed in such precise directed manner? Perhaps.
Would it? At least, by a Warlock? That's a debate looking more at the shared nature between members of the class.
But a lot of this can actually be cut away, chaff to be separated from the direct example we actually already have of this exact scenario
Cloudstrike!
A precision blow from an artifact of a Dark Age Lightbearer, but chaotic enough to destroy anything nearby once that strike lands.
Do we know of the nature of the āstaffā before the weapon itself?
With her weapon, she hooked lightning from the clouds and hurled it, thundering among them.
"This time, she pointed her crook to the sky, and clouds moved at her command. Our people fled as thunderbolts stampeded through the village. Our homes were not safe. Only our root cellars, like this bunker, were a refuge.
Not really, no. Cloudstrike is a self contained story.
Though I vaguely recall some concept art notes from Dima
Still - there are some finer points to debate. Is this a direct result of unique taming of the Light? Does the class of the Stormherd affect the creation? Is it the fact that it's a medium, an artifact, what allows such control, opposed to being wielded directly?
We may never know, but it's fun to think about.
I tend towards the latter explanation, that physical objects imbued or manifested with light are able to manipulate said light in unique ways. Ruinous Effigy and Graviton Lance come to mind as weapons of light that behave uniquely compared to our traditional abilites
Well, Graviton Lance is a bit of an odd one, insomuch as it's actually a pre-Golden Age product.
1960s, funnily enough
But anywho I must go
Back to work for me, lunch break is over
In its current state, or did it functioned differently than now?
I think we can assume its the same gun because, while it was probably further developed afterwards, it was recovered from Chicago, where HƤkke had offices in before the Golden Age, and you'd think it'd be in a golden age HƤkke foundry if it was a more modern model (like Icebreaker was).
We can't say for sure, but it was recovered equipment. Even were it updated, it's unlike to be a weapon of Light, per se.
Nevertheless, Ruinous Effigy is a good example.
So is the lore excerpt on the gun just exaggerating or was even the pre-golden age that significantly technologically advanced
Ah, hang on
I crossed some wires
Let me make sure I actually cite the source properly gimme a tic
Ignore the Graviton Lance bit
Lore on not enough sleep and during work hours isn't a great idea haha
Got my mental wires crossed with a bunch of spinfoil and misinterpretations that went around at the time
Nah ur good man
It was in the developmental stage based on the blueprint of it seen in doctor Nellas office during EoF. And Lodi even commented how she was designing the weapon back before he was thrown through time so that implies it hadn't been built yet.
That being said I wouldn't be surprised if work on the weapon continued even after Dr Nella was killed and that the resulting weapon would then be found in the wreckage of Chicago, brought back and then refurbished by the foundries, presumably hakke as they seemed to be very knowledgeable on gravetic weapons.
Ahh, I donāt own an edge of fate so I wouldnāt have known.
I assume thereās a relationship between it and graviton spike?
Supposedly yes. I haven't seen the quest for a while but I believe the premise was that parts of this weapon were also thrown through time and with Lodi and the Aionians help we created the weapon.
But both weapon do have a connection to the DEO. (Company Lodi (Louis Yero) and Dr Nella were a part of)
department of epic owns
i'll start
you... smell... bad
burn
goddem
Company probably isn't the right definition yes
Agency would be better
Similar to CIA
you see the type of CIA interrogation shit Lodi pulled with Levazsk and Bael
he knows how to operate
Though their main job based on the CE notes was to try and establish contact with any other worldly forces not to harm but to connect and understand.
never underestimate someone in a military position who looks like they work a desk job
Lodi is also a linguist. I'd imagine in learning that he would've also picked up skills to read peoples intentions based on tone of voice and stuff like that
He is literally an expert in speech
Perfect to be the voice of the nine, huh
Unironically he does know 9 languages
what is it with the Nine and choosing multilingual people to be their Emissaries
Nine don't really understand speech so I guess someone already versed in speech might make it easier to communicate through them.
Lodi already can interpret quite a lot of what the nine say through him
Bro is basically the mobile translator app for the nine
Makes it easier to understand and comprehend what happens to emissaries as well
Bael isn't fit to be an emissary which is why he's going insaneomode with all the timewarping thats happening to his consciousness
his bosons weren't very pretty
My theory is that anyone can be an emissary but it has to be unanimous.
So Bael only being wanted by VI now gets put though torture because he's being forced to be something he's not.
yeah, I don't think it's unanimous
he was still voted in
Lets just say mostly unanimous then.
The main connection between Lodi and Orin is their linguistic prowess
IX states that there wasn't any other viable candidate
We can safely assume that's the important aspect there
for eons
Both are extremely good at comprehending and communicating all sorts of complex ideas and concepts
there has to be specific qualities an Emissary candidate needs
I think Xur might be an example of an intended EMissary that lacked what was needed
he ended up pretty messed up, not just because Orin broke his spine
wasnt that mostly the ahamkara being haha funny about it
Xur's backstory is still pretty vague
Isn't the running theory that xur was an attempt by the nine to create an Emissary from scratch on Jupiter?
Instead they got what xur is now minus the broken back at the time? Just a being who goes where he is needed.
Lodi did state that Xur was the last person to channel VI and it left him pretty messed up as well.
We know he was an ahamkara wish and that he cohosts a TV game show with a horse
I think Xur showing up after the Ahamkara got hunted to near extinction was because the Nine decided they were going to hyperfixate on Guardians instead
I don't think Xur's involved with the Ahamkara, though they did to the Red Box.
As far as I recall, his dialogue suggests he and/or his people willingly offered him to the Nine. But it's real vague.
And it's been a hot minute since I dug deep into his lore
I'm fairly certain there was lore that Xur was an experiment made on Jupiter.
An attempt to make an emissary from scratch instead of choosing one so that there'd be no risk of them doing what Orin did and bailing from the role.
A completely pure mouthpiece of the nine but instead they got a Jovian with no face, unable to speak all that much and who can't really do anything but appear where they are needed
I'm sure you're right, but if it's EoF, I still haven't done that, haha
i promise i'll catch up but i recently downloaded rimworld

How did Kabr's shield end up in Rhulk's Pyramid ship? Afaik he was trapped in Savathun's Throne World since the Collapse and never got out.
Rhulk wasn't locked in his Pyramid until like a week before WQ or something
as for how he got the shield though
that's a weird one
Oh. I got my lore mixed up.
There's about eleven years of it, to be fair.
But yeah, it's never actually explained - to my knowledge - how he gained access to the various relics. The Aegis is definitely the strangest of the lot, to boot.
The aegis generally is a bit of a weird one considering where it's popped up. Least in the pale heart it makes some sense since the place is tied to memories
My own theory is that there is only one Aegis that was made by Kabr but the rest are just replicas made by the vex after studying it and through lightbearer touch can be utilised
Reasonable answers. Mine was going to be "Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey"
Well, for all his pride, Rhulk was capable of being subtle.
Vex can make things that can interact with light. They made a whole ass mind purely for Saint 14. So them trying to replicate the power of the Aegis imo seems plausible.
Even if they can't predict light they can at least push it around or store it.
I dunno if I'd call that an apt comparison. The Martyr Mind was basically just a signal blocker.
...with guns.
I'd say blocking light is still a form of interaction imo but yeah it prolly isn't the most solid comparison
the Martyr Mind was result of a LOT of time and resources
so much so that the Vex couldn't really replicate it (or be bothered to)
day 0 of asking a lore question
You think Lodi will try and introduce the idea of american fast food into the city?
Bro probably misses things like hotdogs and burgers from his local chicago diner
Or pizza
Nah, he reintroduces the real American classics, like dishwasher salmon and the deep fried donut bacon cheeseburger
I want a donut bacon burgerā¦
He has been asking about hotdogs
That said I'd wager a lot of food culture survived the collapse simply bc like
you gotta eat
bread and stuff between the bread is simple enough
Well, we've already got... alpaca burritos.
I like to believe the city is still a mostly planet based civilisation in terms of food. Not to say meat doesn't exist but it's not like we have meadows of animals and stuff like that for a big supply of meat.
Chickens being the most common kind of meat most likely
Drifter leaving at the end of Renegades is actually him going to ask people like the Neomunans and the Aionians and explore various parts of the colonized planets to find every bit of past food culture that there was so he can open a restaurant
What do Neomunans do when they're hungry?
They go grab a quick byte
They eat shitty nutrient paste I think
Durandal when he catches me fucking up yet another attempt at killing the wraith warden
I think lodi will eventually make a diner in the city and be an emissary on the side
Chat what does that mean
Durandal is a central character in the marathon series, a rampant AI that played a huge role in the stories major conflicts
It's theorized that the pink cat
(often referred to as bingus) is actually Durandal watching us
The wraith warden is a super tough boss enemy in nu-marathon
(I read it all)
I'm going to beat you with my bare hands and then a metal bat wrapped in wire
Is this wraith warden the Sphitsh looking enemy?
I'm still very curious on the reasoning as to why that is just roaming around on Tau ceti
Thought all of them ran off into space after being freed during the events of the old marathon games
No that's the compiler in the cryo archive
Wraith warden is a UESC boss
Not much
The original games it was an indication there was a lore terminal around
That i know. Compilers or Sphitish as they are known were used by the Phor to rummage through data terminals
The working idea for what's going right now is a full time crash going on as a result from the timeline jumping in Marathon Infinity
So a compiler/Sphitish has jumped from another timeline into the tau ceti current marathon takes place one?
I know there's an emphasis on an anomaly of some kind in this new game
Recall it's canon that MIDA guns made it into Destiny
Hmm ok then. I was looking at lore pre release and this anomaly was doing a bunch of weird stuff
Though the game only just came out today so i'd assume people wil discover the lore eventually along with unlocking this cryo archive with the compiler lurking inside
A lot of the reality/timeline hopping stuff is the primary thing in Infinity
There's precedent before this anomaly (unless it ends up being related), which is how the MIDA guns were able to make it into the D2 reality within the relative timelines of the Marathon titles
destiny lore question of the day
how many pop culture alien concepts do you think survived the collapse
followup, which of the allied alien races would take offense to seth rogan film "Paul"
i seem to remember at some point "little grey aliens" mentioned but i don't quite remember
Im sad we finally got praxic content and a weapon for them but now the games kinda⦠done with it seems
For now, perhaps. It's hard to tell with Destiny. I mean, they said they were basically done with the Exo Stranger, and then we got Beyond Light, years later.
Pretty sure we still don't even know who she was talking to over the comms when she first met us in D1 right
at the time it was most likely intended to be Osiris
but given how the story changed over time, who knows at this point
True!
Do we know who Otzot is beyond āhigh level Psionā cuz that strike dialogue is driving me insane
Sure. Otzot's a very very old Psion, roughly as old as Calus. In fact, she was part of the Midnight Coup, overthrowing him from his reign.
Funnily enough, she did so for shockingly selfish reasons.
See, Emperor Calus was many, many things, but he wasn't the worst Emperor the Cabal ever had, despite it all. He was preparing to free the Psion people from the Empire. But Otzot was Freeborn - basically the equivalent of a Psion noble, with rarely granted freedom, position, and power.
If the Psions were freed, Otzot was no longer special - so, she took part in the Coup, alongside Ghaul, Caiatl, Umun-Arath, and others.
It's ironic, in a way, since Caiatl freed the Psions shortly after becoming Empress herself. Though that was years later, of course.
She also appears to have some level of connection to The Device, or a previous iteration of it, and the Psion Conclave.
So basically: old ass noble psion which has connections to important psion stuff.
Pretty much. Not very friendly.
Gotcha
Ik Iāve seen other psions in stuff with names indicating position to otzot, like in risen and defiance iirc? Is this just all more lore illusions or were these important characters
Probably depends on who exactly you mean, but by and large references to Otzot have been few and far between since the Red War. Until names of folks dedicated to Otzot started popping up again recently, we had nothing actually suggesting she was even still alive.
Those are who Iām talking about, the random psion vanguard op bosses that reference Otzot in name
Hm I wonder how Calusā policies were viewed by the citizenry
We should ask Consul for his opinion
I hate to be a buzz kill and by no means would I ever say it will never happen but D1s story pre taken king seems to be something bungie very rarely touches in terms of continuity.
We've had the exo stranger in beyond light getting an actual name and lore and then we had a redo of the black heart fight in season of the wish.
Oh and skolas made a comeback as a side antagonist
It was kinda cool seeing the Black Heart come back for a mission
They probably are having Elsie be talking to Tokki or the Pouka in D1 if they ever reveal it
do we know if Rhulk got resurrected Nezarec style or was he just red like that?
Probably not resurrected but definitely enhanced by the witness
I don't think Rhulk ever got ressurected
are you referring to when Nezarec's body got hit by that Terraformation beam?
i'm referring to Nezarec's body being red like Rhulk's
but he did need to get hit by a beam of light to get resurrected which couldn't have happened for Rhulk
well I think it is said that Rhulk was kinda a blueprint for Nezarec
I don't really think the red on his body was a result of that ressurection
but surely Nezarec's not naturally red
I mean, Dread can be kinda red at times
like miniboss Tormentors
or Herald of FInality
yeah but those guys were changed by the witness weren't they
like Nezarec?
was Rhulk?
i guess?
all of the Witness' disciples and Dread were enhanced/created by the Witness
i was gonna mention Calus but he was probably just a goofball means to an end for the witness
we can conclude the witness just really liked the color red
All of the witnesses disciples are given more power.
We saw this in lightfall with calus coming out of the special capsule.
I would assume another one of these capsules was what enhanced Rhulk and the one nezarec was in got interrupted by the traveler beam.
yeah but it didn't make Calus red
I don't think the colour really plays any significance. Like we don't know if rhulk was originally red and nezarec was an abomination of light and dark so who knows what his real form actually looked like colourwise.
Calus is just a purple and gold lover
ok but two out of three disciples turned out to be red there has to be some meaning
I'd go so far as to say that transformation might even be dictated by the thoughts of the one being transformed. So Calus ofc being self centred would give himself all the gold bling and medals we see him with.
Rhulk already viewing himself as perfect considering he didn't even consider us a threat until too late might not have changed himself all that much
If Nezzy was indeed partially based on Rhulk and - as the concept art suggests - was a bit chimeric in nature... yeah, could all just be derived from Rhulk. Whether his colour is from the Witness... can't really say. Our only information on Rhulk pre-Witness didn't really go into personal physical descriptions.
Which is all just a long winded way of saying
maybe!
We could probably build a better case if we knew what any other Disciples looked like haha

I will say that red-skinned Calus could have gone pretty hard actually
Two out of three we know
Savathun isnt red and winterbite(?) doesnt have red on it

Imagine his arms and legs in the second phase bursting out into red like muscle once his armor started breaking
But savathun isn't a disciple. She was offered it though.
offer is kinda a strong word
she had Rhulk as a jehova witness camping out on her lawn
Thatās a terrifying mental image, thanks
the idea that he'd just regularly stroll up and just resort to bragging about THE UPENDED will always be hilarious to me
EOF boys, idk why people hate it letās talk
I just finished it
Story was amazing
Gameplay a bit repetitive but itās destiny
the issues many had with it were more about some of the gameplay elements like matterspark, but mostly about the Portal
Wb it ? I liked matterspark, kinda feel like Iām a ghost but I can attack
And which portal ?
i found matterspark annoying cause it was just the same shit over and over pmuch
Ohhh that, yeah itās a bit confusing, I left before it came out, I like it ngl makes it feel a lil easier to search for things
I get that, the missions themselves felt copy n paste
note that the portal was very different back then
then there was the fact that we were originally going to have our power reset back to 200 every expansion
to keep engagement with the portal up I guess
thankfully Bungie stepped back on that
the current max is 550
so basically when EoF first released everyone was set to 10, then you were able to bring it up to 200 which was intended to be max permanent power while 300-550 would be seasonal and reset when a new expansion launched
???
however, as I said, Bungie made 550 permanent
Nah yeah I get that
it was supposed to reset when Renegades launched, but Bungie walked back on that
But 550 cap will increase ?
maybe, we don't really know yet
the whole power resetting each expansion was meant to make sure the power level numbers didn't need to keep going up
Yeah ion understand why they canāt
but with that no longer being in play, who knows what Bungie will do with it
I think power level used to be above that by the time we got to TFS
Damn I missed out
I just came back last week
Got a lot to catch up on so I appreciate the info
On what š
A number being bigger?
Itās completely arbitrary, which is why they reset it
The function of the power level remains the same
Yeah but after all that progress from jump
I canāt be satisfied with being told Iām only worth 300 light
I can understand levels being taken out but, light is how you measure strength , we too strong for anything less than 1000 atp šāāļø
I think bungie won't actually increase the light level for a while in this new system. Going from 10 to 550 is satisfying so I don't think they want a repeat of a new player starting at 1600 light
well not really?
it only really meant anything in base d1 y1 where it'd soft-sunset weapons from previous expansions going into new raids
but like, not a whole lot has had power enabled in a good while
and its not like we ever really became more powerful just by having more light given we fought the same enemies on the same level
Destiny uses the same variety of enemies adding in more elements to try and make them seem different as possible, Iād also like new enemies as well but I feel they do their thing with em
My thing is while yes we never really became more powerful weāve been through a lot lore wise , you can scale weapons how you see fit but us as players shouldnāt be anywhere near hundreds as much lore as weāve done
Light should mean something, I.e how powerful you are
We've had 3 new enemy types the past 2 expansions,
Corsairs, Imp swarms and now Interceptors
Yes those as well they calm
Only faction left to expand is the hive
Dread?
They are most def not the same
The husk is the only thing comparable
The rest are vastly different
Oh mb was thinking of the scorn
Ye dread are calm, I hate those melee runners
But dread been in the game for a bit now too no ?
Only since final shape. And after that we got a revamp of the taken with the new dire taken
I just finished EOF so far and while destiny could be better I think theyāre doing okay
The way I read the reviews I thought itād be the worst thing ever
Everything is there but , Iām also not that deep of a player to realize core issues
Donāt like that light decision tho
Destiny gameplay wise is a good game but rn there isn't any new content until june so folks are just taking a break. Also people sadly will very often jump at any chance to hate on bungie for simplly existing
As for light it is a scale of power. Higher light means access to more difficult activites and better loot
Yeah I wished they kept it so players can be 1000+ rn
I agree
It wasn't in a good place and needed a reset sadly. And having the number that high effects the new player experience of going from zero to hero
When you start a new game why wouldn't you start at level 1 for example? But Pre EoF it was starting you at 1600
Of course, they already made that moot by making everything drop at a minimum 300
True there are catchup mechanics now but that grind is still there.
I can understand that but being that you start at 1600 would that mean you still have to increase ?
And if you're light level 10 just gogin through expansions and the new light campaign you'll still get drops below 300. 300 is more the point where you start engaging with the portal adn rotating activities
1600 sounds fair thinking about what weāve been through
1600 would be the same as level 1
I did hear about that, didnāt know the reset helped
Yeah I started off in TFS and everything I got was 300
I couldnāt get bigger till I started EOF
You can reach 550 completely F2P
We were, actually. We were approaching 3000. But it's completely arbitrary given that we were starting at around 2000 by then. It was just plain confusing for new players, who wondered where the big number came from.
also it hasn't been called light levels since d1
Interesting
Gotcha, they shoulda implanted a better introduction for the new players
I started once d2 came out and took a break after lightfall
So I was pretty understanding of why we were the way we were
Guess Iām too stuck on it lol š
will there be lore added in the future to my love life?
Sources tell me ask again later
Idk its rather underdeveloped and the characters are just not popular enough
