We have the "Taken" version of our Guardian in Eris' home, and the mention of speculated Darkness elements in the battlepass weapon's lore tab.

The point of guardians is to prove that given a new lease on life with no bearing on their old one, people will choose to do things for the greater good rather than their own interests

Savathun orchestrated her resurrection and planned it out with Immaru beforehand because it would benefit them both, Savathun never had any intention of changing and just wanted a leg up to save her own skin while leaving everyone else to fend for themselves against the witness

There is no part of her plan or motives that justifies anything that she does, every time she pulls a “ermmm you guardians aren’t so great either” is just extremely surface level deflection that falls apart the moment you think about it longer than 5 seconds

Reminder that she was actively still trying to kill us and take over the pale heart even while the witness was still infecting it to destroy the universe

Her reasoning just being “if I’m able to kill you, then you wouldn’t be any use to me anyway”

The traveler has been proven to not be omnipotent time and time again, it tried to save the Eliksni by leaving their system early to lure the black fleet away instead of sitting and watching them get destroyed like every other race it visited

Savathun is literally the goddess of trickery and deceit, she wanted the light for her own benefit so she planned it out and found a ghost willing to go along with her scheme

The traveler made no direct action, but it did see Savathun die on a cliff and genuinely hoped that this would be the second chance that the hive deserved

All the traveler saw was a dead Savathun and a ghost approaching to resurrect her, so it made a gamble on her

A gamble that horrifically backfired, but hindsight is 20/20

This would explain the many eyes, tentacles and the suffocating terror debuff you get if you look at the eyes. Fun fact if you turn away from the eyes you don't get the debuff even if they can still see you. Like you're choosing not to meet their gaze.
