That's what the Episodes have been all about. Do you have access to them?
i....
am lazy
XD
@errant tapir this will explain the echoes and what they are https://youtu.be/-PYzMqhu3Fs?feature=shared

First one we found was rhe Artifact of command I think it's called
Basically let's you control people in this case Maya Sundaresh used it to carve out a Vex network for herself and planned to take over Sol basically
ooo... is it in the encore exotic mission?
No.
what no
it's the entire episode
no offence Varo but you can literally experience this, actively, yourself
Like I'm always happy to talk lore but
It's right there
Encore is just where we find her sort of base of operations and learn some stuff about her motivation and stuff
Watch that video I sent. And also play it for yourself. You'll learn everything you want to know
That's the best option
any lore behind what those builds are?
Actually, no.
I think it's a baller pizza place
tower of pizza?
Possibly
Pure gameplay.
Or maybe you can't swim.
Season of the Deep was an entire season involving us going under Titan's methane ocean.
Literally in the liquid
It's just gameplay. I would assume we are capable of at the very least treading water.
On the subject though I absolutely loved season of the deeps vibe. Going underwater for the first time felt so cool..
I did feel a little disappointed when Sloane wasn't cured. Especially due to drifters knowledge of taken considering he uses them in gambit
quick question: does Saint-14 have an Exotic weapon that he uses but also we can use in game?
I know Perfect Paradox exists before anyone mentions it
I guess Bastion
It’s obviously Saint themed, and the firing mechanism even references Saint and Osiris’ relationship, as the gun only fires when their symbols cross each other’s
GASP
was it fun?
u can explore underwater?
He does not no. He did make bastion for us however so that would be the closest to "his weapon"
No it was just sections. If you play the ghosts of the deep dungeon you can experience those underwater parts.
oooo thats what it is
You should play it.
He did? I thought Bastion itself didn't really have much lore attached to it
Yes. When we found our own grave he mentioned that bastion was one of our favourite weapons and a gift from him.
That last part I was unfamiliar of
Thought it was just gun we liked in some timeline snippet the grave was from
He doesn’t really use them well
He summoned a captain to take care of a threatening Dredgen, which almost immediately tried killing him after
Majority of them are fake anyway
Wasn’t that when he was summoning legitimate Taken he couldn’t control?
He does still have some knowledge on them though. I think that might be useful in a way like with the example you just mentioned. It's just a taken. If you know how to make them go somewhere that displays some level of control
Even if it's not the direct kind
The taken literally just go where power is
We see it in echoes and in the ToE
All drifter did was fling around one mote of dark and a captain appeared
He can’t control them
I don’t know, this would require me to rewatch season of the drifter cutscenes, which I don’t want to
Yes i know I'm just saying that is still a form of control. Like I could say I can control a horse by holding a carrot up and have it follow me and lead it into a pen.
A horse isn’t constantly trying to murder you at all times because it can sense the primordial power inside you is the exact opposite of what it is
That also doesn’t mean you have innate knowledge on how to save someone who was magically turned into a centaur
Lets say drifter throws a mote of light at the guardian and says, "lead the taken right into the middle of that enemy base". That is the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Not direct but more a way of manipulating them for your own gain
Yeah that still has nothing to do with Sloane and her condition
The literal extent of his knowledge is how to carrot on a stick them
Right but getting back to that considering drifter was there i would have thought after him using taken for so long he would have studied them to an extent. Even if it's not a true taken.
Is the point of Savathûn’s Song so that Savathûn can passively influence those who have heard it?
Probably yes
some days i load up destiny and just read the subclass lore tab
Wait till you read the other lore
So, question
Who is speaking in Lumina's lore tab? I always assumed it was j a third-person narrator for Humanity as a whole.
Seems to be a civilisation that was touched by the traveler. Could be humanity or someone else it's very vague. They call it a gardener so I wonder if it's the witnesses civilisation but that's just a guess
Precursor is the safest bet imo
Precursors does apply nicely.
do guardian watch movies ?
If they want to, I suppose. Movies are still being made, if that's what you're asking.
was wondering like guardians are always killing n saving ppl but i wondred they sit down n watch movies
does The Last City even have movies?
Yes
according to our Ghost, the Last City doesn't even have arcades
isnt it lore that old saint was a story tell to kids
Well, Saint was dead for a while. Decades.
I think, perhaps, you're thinking of the tale that Eliksni told their children about Saint. A boogeyman, a dark story. He was a reaper to them for a while.
Civilian voice line?
ye
of course Bungie would leave interesting stuff like this in voice lines most people don't even know exist
like the fact that Thumos deserved what he got 100%
1000%
hell he deserved worse
it's also where i got the fun fact of "we pump paracausal energy through The Wall in pipes"
I wonder what happens if someone injects paracausal energy into their veins
or stuffs a donut with it
void-filled donut
love the thought of a guardian watching a movie with they ghost
"So I've scanned ahead and-"
"No spoilers, Ghost"
think ghost can feel pats?
probably
I'd spin that mf like a basketball
it hurt n made me smile when we hugged out ghost in the ascenison mission
n made me wonder if ghost can feel the hug
Ghost can probably feel these things. As well as emotions
In lightfall it said it felt sick near the veil
Or when sagira hijacked their shell it said it felt like it's brain was rearranged
More than boogyman more like the grim reaper. Not a human and more like an undying beast that just cut through everything including innocent eliksni in rage.
I wouldn't be surprised if some small amount of eliksni still hold some kind of uneasiness towards Saint.
Some eliksni definitely stil have ptsd
Some eliksni might have been related to the ones lost to saints rampage.
Is this currently in game? I have so many hours idle next to Tower NPCs and never heard this
Some that survived have probably lost close friends or family to him, that would be an interesting story thread to explore.
Damn it that actually made me laugh for some reason
Why does bungie make more realistic dialogue for a one off line than real story dialogue
Because they’re different people at different times writing different things
why is fikrul immortal?
Uldren Sov accidentally Wished to Riven the Taken Ahamkara to return Fikrul to life. This Wish, and Taken essence, corrupted his Ether and rendered him unable to permanently die.
This corrupted Ether was also the origin of the Scorn.
ahh
Him being immortal + artifact makes him invincible?
I'm at the point where fikrul and skolas are together
And they merged?
the Echo isn't what makes him immortal
it's Ahamkara magic
they didn't merge
Fikrul merely brought Scorn-las back to life again after we killed him (for a second time)
and then they both dipped
ok thanks
what does the artifact do for fikrul?
Primarily there's the whole thing of turning living Eliksni directly into Scorn, which is... quite frankly horrifying.
Nnnno
idk i saw that cutscene from where
that is irrelevant
Beyond Light happened four years ago Varo
The Echo that Fikrul has only appeared after the Witness died
We did, however, do the intro to this Episode on Europa
Eramis, Kell of House Salvation.
And also crashes directly into the HELM, yes

how many species are there in d2?
i am absolutely baffled by the many species
and idk how to identify them
Uh, gee. Well...
There's the Human umbrella of Awoken, Exo, and Humans. Plus whatever may have happened to the Jovians.
There are the enemy races of gameplay, those being Cabal, Psions, Eliksni, Hive, Vex, Taken, Scorn. Scorn being undead Eliksni, of course.
There's Worm/Worm God, Proto Worm... and then we start getting into the niche stuff.
Precursors, Harmony... Clipse, Arkborn... Aphelion, Ahamkara... Qugu. Sindu. Uhh... Taishibethi, I think it is...
Lubraean
So on
Xûr was once of a colony amidst the Jovians.
Would the Dread be considered their own race or just weird ass amalgamations
As much as the Taken are I suppose
sounds likea a group that wants to convert me to their religion
Also don't forget my boys the Tormentors
arent they included in dreads faction?
They're their own race afaik
Jovians meaning amidst or past the Jovian planets - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
They're functionally the same. Kind of like prototypes.
What about Nezzy?
Nezzy was the stock from which Tormentors were made. He himself though is a mystery.
probably made by the witness?
If anyone ever connects Nezarec with the species of Qugu, they're... well, I don't wan't to be rude.
is there any lore about his origin?
Nezarec? Not an origin, no, but he's been around for a long time.
"Of Hated Nezarec" is a pre-Golden Age text.
what is it o.o?
An irrelevant species to Nezarec. People vastly overinterpreted a piece of concept art and wildly misunderstood the physiology of Qugu and made a false link.
Wait wait what were those mentioned in the Minagerie again
The arkborn or something?
Yep yep
Forgot they existed for a hot sec
OOOOOOH no wonder i kept thinking i heard arkborns
riiight they were mentioned in menagerie
Bla bla their queen was captured by Calus or something
Not quite, but on the right path.
Arkborn were sentient energy beings, and Calus threatened to claim them when he discovered them. The Fulminator agreed to join Calus as his Shadow in exchange for leaving her people alone.
Close enough then
Emperor Calus, being the giant pile of dung that he is, considered the deal null and void when the Fulminator "died" in his service, and claimed them anyway.

They were the wells of energy you collected in that one encounter
This is why people who asked "why is Calus evil now in Lightfall" didn't look hard enough
You don’t need to look hard to know that emperor overthrown usually isn’t the best guy
Every statue, including the deep stone and gos one, were dissenters right?
possibly
but every instance of a statue we seen before TFS was an instance where the Witness gave power or something
My take on it is that the statues are able to "host" the witness, hence why they can also be used as prisoners for once-pieces of the witness
Wasn't that suit calus made for the fulminator a prison in a way? I'd need to read again but I believe that that was the suits purpose
Along with making this arkborn able to assume a form
I like when destiny gets dark like with iron tomb or savathun’s song
Missions where guardians suffered fates worse than death
I hope we get something like presage again. The creepy factor was cool.
Yeah it was great
I do wonder what actually killed katabasis though. Egregore doesn't look like something that can just lash out. His body was strung up by it.
He was surrounded by Scorn when he died.
I’m pretty sure the locus did
Right.
The locus of communion
I love it
Still i find it strange how the egregore behaved. I know it spreads and merges minds but stringing something up like the way it did hasn't been seen before
I treat egregore like the megamycyte (mold) from the resident evil games. A fungus that can store minds it consumes
I thought the plauga did that?
I’m not a re guy
Plauga is a different thing.
Mold is the new stuff in RE 7 and 8
Ah
Plauga is 4, 5, 6
I didn’t really pay attention in 7 and 8 so I assumed it was the same
Nah that was a bit of a reboot sort of. Different stories centred around ethan winters. The old characters are still around though.
Again though I think the mold and egregore are pretty similar.
Day 2 of asking another fun fact about the game
okay no seriously i have to know
how did you not notice this
this one?
yes
The Tower is to the left of the HELM you see up there
The Old Tower is the ruin on the right
HUH?
What?
You didn't play D1 did you?
nope
When did you start d2?
So was I
okay but Varo did you never look over the edge of the Tower
are you quite serious
yes ik that
Are our legs being pulled
but that confuses me with this
we can see the tower from last city?
is the tower in last city?
i am in game
You can see the City from the Tower
that is from 2 seconds ago
Yes. Go to the last city. Turn around and look up.
And you can see the Tower from the city
this tower?
i'm here mael
Yes!
Yes
That's the tower from destiny 1
oh.....
In D2 our new tower is next to it
oh....
i am flabbergasted
explain where

i took the screenshots FROM the tower
i am currently standing in it
if this is D1 tower
d2 tower is next to it
where is d2 tower?
Okay so
Go to the tower rn. Then turn to your left and look up. That big ruin is the destiny 1 tower ok?
So in destiny 2 the tower we are in now is next to that
This is the D1 Tower
When the Red War happened, the Red Legion destroyed the D1 Tower. The other Towers of the Wall were damaged beforehand, and none of the true Towers remain.
In D2, we moved onto this lower section of the Wall and renamed it to The Tower as a form of familiarity. It is not actually a literal Tower.
This shows the H.E.L.M, which is being repaired right next to the current Tower
This is me in the D2 Tower looking at the HELM and D1 Tower behind it
Yes. The HELM.
what does HELM stands for and do?
It is currently under repairs due to the crash you were in with Fikrul
Hub of Emergency Logistics and... M something.
Yes. You were in it when it crashed.
oooooo
It's been our base for many seasons until now
Used to be parked in the D2 tower and then eventually it took flight. Now it's back after crashing.
oh...
i never looked down in the tower
or turn around from last city
when i go to tower usually i go straight to npc
Look around more. You learn a ton from the environment
That's part of destiny's story
...no.
@errant tapir go above shaxx. Walk on the flagpole
beautiful
question
can u guys recap the story of the making of us fighting the witness?
i played the TFS campaign
That's a VERY long story
That's... many DLC worth of story.
and it started with us abandoning our broken ship
Oh you mean on the final shape campaign
yes
Respectfully Varo the buildup to the Witness has technically been ongoing since D1
It's a 10 year saga
This is a massive story with countless threads and it's only now ended after defeating the witness.
You've joined during the prologue of all of that pretty much.
Epilogue.
Sry
Lol
Epilogue
We're tying up loose ends and then possibly getting ready to go outside of the Sol system now that we're in a position to do so
I can explain things, but maybe let's target something smaller than "basically all of destiny"
hmm i already know the most important ones
cayde's death
osiris possessed by savathun
what are the interesting ones?
like huge impacts
via a dragon?
No
Riven is a dragon
In shadowkeep that was the first time we heard from the witness
That's when they reached out offering their "salvation"
I guess if you really want a story that you can play. If you go through shadowkeep to the final shape that'll give you a good chunk of story.
Bungie even said that was where that part of the story was supposed to start.
Shadowkeep
Beyond light
Witch queen
Lightfall
The final shape.
In that order
Moon.
Shouldn't be too long if it's just the campaigns.
Admittedly due to the way seasons happened your still going to miss huge context
Like why we offed Savathun only to revive her later
Speaking of this @errant tapir in the director screen on the top right is a timeline icon. You can use that to see information on all the past seasons and what they were about
Obviously won't give you everything but it's there for you to at least have some idea of how we got to certain places in the story
yeah
i noticed that
when the game GIVEE ME DIRECTION TO CAYDE'S FATE
AND IT BUGGED
Yeah that's a known issue. I don't know if it's fixed
Not anymore iirc
But again. Shadowkeep is a good place to start
I could be wrong
Thanks eris yes they fixed it
hello
can u guys tell me how old is each campaign starting from shadowkeep until tfs?
Shadowkeep - October 2019
Beyond Light - November 2020
Witch Queen - February 2022
Lightfall - February 2023
Final Shape - June 2024
If saint-14 said is the corridors of time that ergo sum(the weapon on the guardian’s grave) was his own but he never took it the one thing that didn’t happen in this timeline till now is giving him ergo sum. If it happens we will be sure that the timeline of our death will 99.9% will happen. But he said a thing that is very important. He said that the traveler is gone. I don’t think someone or something took it or destroyed it. I think it abandoned us as he abandoned the fallen. Because he got what he wants someone destroy the witness and I think the new saga will be against the light itself.
The mission of corridors of time gave us many theories but now I think these are the most possible.
Oh god I wrote all that?
But also he said that if you are there(calling the guardian) take the weapon and come to kill what killed you or die trying.
Because it’s not ergo sum
That’s just an ornamental design on the tomb based on the taken king swords
The actual weapon set at our grave is Bastion
And the weapon we give Saint in the past is his shotgun, Perfect Paradox
Oh then I wasted my time writing 😂
I thought it was ergo sum it really looks like it.
Obviously bungie designed it after it but it’s not the actual thing
The weapon spoken about in the eulogy Saint gives is Bastion
Crota appreciation day, give a small fact about crota (besides being the one to introduce the vex to us)
The reason why he had to go to sleep some time prior to The Dark Below was because a Knight of Oryx and a Knight of Xivu Arath killed themselves because they couldn't convince the other that their god was better
I think it was from the Shadowkeep Collector's Edition ARG
and to elaborate more

the reason why this caused that was because the Knight of Oryx dying caused a small tribute loss that was just enough to cause a Knight of Crota to lose a very crucial duel
because of that, Crota suffered a major tribute loss and had to go into hibernation to keep his worm from consuming him
Lmao
He’s technically naked in CE considering he has no physical form meaning no chitin meaning no armor at all
Mara Sov pretty much single-handedly destroyed a Pyramid ship once
died in the process but still very cool from mara
The Awoken's creation can be attributed to a man being killed by a rabbit embryo
did you know that male Cabal are the ones who nurse their young?
I do not
which means Calus has breastfed before
Leviathan, which was vaulted
Shaxx once oversaw a kids dodgeball match because he lost a bet to cayde. (Cayde was cheating though)
they were just very lucky pants!
Was Cayde in love with Maya Sundaresh?
At some point he felt something for her, yes. After he became an Exo, there was a time he bodyguarded for her.
But he had a wife and kid before all of this right?
Yes, when he was human.
K gotcha ty
Does shaw han have any lore to speak of?
Bought his YAS from a market stall. Used his Golden Gun to make a fireteam of Frames get Radiant before Solar 3.0 was a thing. Teaches New Lights canonically, not just in game.
Mostly just a reliable Vanguard scout operating in the Cosmodrome.
Well of Gun!!!
gell of wun
Have we seen anything from shiro since rise of iron?
We’ve had mentions of him in lore, though I don’t know about the chronology of them
Alr
Well then
I’ve already mentioned before how D2 Crota is a fucking poser
They literally just used the Thalnok model
To be fair, Thalnok is what Crota is supposed to look like normally.
WHICH SHOULDN’T BE WHAT ITS LIKE IN CE
The excuse is that they did that for the Nightmare of Crota when he WAS representing the prime state
Which was then reused for Dares which is also excusable
Is the dares version the normal one?
Pain
So like
In the awoken war against oryx (or was it just one fight) why did oryx win?
(Yes I’m using questions as an excuse to send d1 pics again)
he killed everyone
iirc the Taken War began with the most of the Awoken's fleet being lost to the Dreadnaught's super weapon
seems pretty simple to me
when i say everyone i mean everyone
every other active ship in oryx's own fleet was also destroyed
I think they still haven't recovered from that loss
Sucks when your King sends you to the local flotsam junkyard because he wanted to flex
logic of the sword
Aiat
Savathun throwing jabs at mara during final shape, bomb logic vs sword logic
The nine fucked off
Off
You reckon they'll ever pick up that narrative again. I don't think the Nine have been relevant since Arrivals.
He used his super for the biggest play of the game.
They said "We'll just watch how this all goes" that's kinda what they've always done.
We’ve dealt with the big big bad, so it’d be nice to see them again, maybe after heresy
zavala live in a country house and have wife and kids
is that before or after he became guardian
after
and it happened centuries prior
during the Dark Age
why is he in a country house
that was where he and Safiyah decided to live
at least until Hakim died
wait, does the traveler exist in human lives during the golden age
what?
rephrases that
what do you mean by "exist in human lives"?
the Golden Age began when the Ares One crew confronted the Traveler on Mars
and the Traveler was already in Sol for a little while
like a year or two maybe
The Traveler is what began the Golden Age.
The Witness and the Black Fleet attacked, destroying our Golden Age, harming the Traveler, causing the Collapse and sending us into a Dark Age. The Traveler repelled the Black Fleet and created the Ghosts, but that in turn rendered it comatose.
Day 4 of asking fun facts

Xûr's hunchback was caused by Orin, a Lightbearer later known as the Emissary of the Nine, hitting him so hard with a warhammer that he flew into a boulder and broke his spine.
His mind is not his own. He is the Agent of the Nine.
What's agent of nine?
Of the Nine. Xûr is one of their two representatives, the other being the Emissary.
The Nine are... do you want the long answer in the form of a story, or the short answer?
https://www.ishtar-collective.net/categories/book-dust
The Nine, what they are, and where they come from, is all explained within this lore book, that follows the story of Lavinia, a young Cryptarch, in a tale of obsession and research. Specifically the entry The Nine, but the whole book is an excellent read.
Well, there's a whole section in your Collections menu for lore books. Also, this website, the Ishtar Collective, has 95% of all written lore in Destiny, extracted from the API.
Also I have read 95% of lore myself, so there's also that
i like-a da lore
because it speaks in riddles
Xûr tends to do that. If you're referring to The Red Box, that's a whole different story. Much shorter. More amusing.
I blame the Ahamkara.
As in, the entry The Nine, within the lore book Dust?
Well, it would make more sense with the rest of the book being read.
That said, it isn't actually a riddle. It is, however, unexpected.
The Nine, you see, are not people, not aliens, in the classic sense.
The Nine are... like Boltzmann Brains. Loops of Dark Matter dust, caught in the gravitational loops and clutches of the Solar System and its celestial bodies. These loops, through the life that arose on our worlds, began to think. These loops became The Nine.
They had no eyes to catch light. They had no ears to hear. And yet they turned their wills upon the alien world of Matter, and strove to learn, for they knew they had to protect their hearts, or die.
With a horror of revelation so absolute that it would drive her mad if she still had sanity to lose, Lavinia understands where the Nine have always been. They are within everyone, every system, every living and moving thing. Trillions and pentillions of slim dark matter tentacles plunged through all our bodies, drinking up the complexity of our lives and thoughts.
We are all pinched silhouettes impaled on the twitchings of infinitely long spiderlegs.```
Do we have any lore entries or even art of what ahamkara looked like? Yes they are shapeshifters but I've noticed they definitely had a "preferred" look it seems. I'd like to see the kind of creature that these bones come from
There's also the skull above shaxx, in warlords ruin and on some of our armour
i always imagined the default look was how riven appeared
Go take a look at Riven, probably should give an idea
Season of the Wish cutscenes, the raid.. etc
Riven is the true form of an ahamkara. She said so herself.
I know but that still makes me wonder what forms they took on that would make their bones look more like something from a dinosaur almost.
To my knowledge aside from riven and the season of the wish stuff we don't actually have any images of other ahamkara
taranis i think was identical
Just bones from events like the great hunt.
speculation on my part tho
He was but his side tentacles were different to rivens. That was the noticeable difference.
Rivens were more extended, his were tucked away more
so then you know what they look like lol. and from shapeshifting they can have countless forms. pretty open ended question when they can be whatever
or however
I know but considering how many of the same skulls there were on things like armour and as I mentioned the great hunt and warlords ruin it definitely looks like they still had similar looks and it wasn't like they were fighting people in the form of people if that makes sense
They were still animals
Fighting like creatures
Because riven or taranis definitely didn't have tusks
What does the agent of the Nine do?
What is their mission?
How did Xur manage to upset the emperor to bonk him?
Shapeshift? Into human? Huh
they can change there shape. lol.
To survive, and maybe to gain independence from life which their survival is tied to
Hm?
think they're mixing up "the emperor" and "the emissary" who i believe broke his back?
Yeah she was just an ordinary sunbreaker with very [adjective] hair
Ahamkara can change shape into whatever they want to prey on the wishes of others. That's how they survive and why all but one were hunted to extinction in what was called the great hunt.
But guardians do still wear their bones and even though they are dead their bones are still capable of granting wishes.
Basically bad dragons?
Dragons twist wishes = bad dragon?
So... We kill riven in last wish?
Yes

She was the last known ahamkara
At least until season of the wish where we found out that she had a clutch of eggs hidden away.
Because she had been taken
Did people get sick ?
Oryx?
Yes
Wait wait
wish dragons in general were pretty dangerous to others
Taken as in verb
Or taken enemies? Black ones
the latter

oryx took her, but riven made a wish with oryx to make it happen
without oryx's full knowledge, of course
upon oryx' death, riven retained all her "taken power", and also became completely lucid again
regaining controll of herself
Ahamkara live of twisting wishes. After oryxs death she was still taken but had her free will back
Riven’s a scheming bitch
Oh.... So kf first then last wish ya?
Yes
So she became more dangerous?
ye
We intend to kill riven because she got her powers back?
The dreaming city was taken in it's entirety because savathun made a wish to riven.
the way wish dragons feed is through twisting wishes in a way
No because as a taken she is a danger
She gets her power back because she wishes for oryx to kindnap her?
the more different it is from intent, the more they feed
No
no, the wish was basically "you'll take me, but when you die, i retain all of the pros of being taken, with none of the ocns"
ok
so
oryx, during the taken war, wanted to take riven
Give me synopsis of beginning on how do we end up killing riven
he went into the dreaming city
and basically went "yo can a homie take you?"
"you can take anything you wish"
@errant tapir I'll give a summary
Oryx takes riven so now he has power over her.
Oryx dies but because of rivens wish she keeps the power of a taken but now has her free will back.
Savathun then comes along and makes another wish to riven which caused the dreaming city to be cursed when we killed riven.
Why did he suddenly wanted to take riven? Reason?
oryx then took her, but riven twisted his wish of taking her, where upon oryx' death riven would retain all the pros and such of being taken, but none of the cons (like being effectively braindead under someones controll)
riven is a wish dragon
they're really fucking powerful
Power
Oh .....
An ahamkara under complete control is Extremely dangerous
a taken wish dragon is a formidable weapon
So he basically want a pet?
i take it you are unfamiliar with oryx if this is a surprise to you
Riven is arguably the strongest enemy we've ever faced. Second to the witness and hive gods pretty much
Ik ik the lore
you dont become powerful by one day going "aight thats enough power i think."
Savathun oryx and Xivu brothers and sisters
All sisters
One day they venture out in the ocean and meet worm god
Originally
oryx was female and became male
HUH?
yes
Yes
Xivu?
oryx was female, became male
Aurash was oryxs first name
Wish?
Worms
the hive did not face wish dragons 'til they've long become hive.
oryx became male when the krill (proto-hive) became the hive iirc?
Before the hive became the hive they were called the krill
The worms power turned them into what they are now
Or "the deep" as they call it
they give a rather extensive explenation of the hives origin
Aurash took the King Morph and became Auryx
Auryx would become Oryx when he learned how to Take
i keep forgetting the names
yea
i like how oryx' names became less tongue twisters with each change
wanted to take on the king morph
worth noting that the hives social structure of genders (and in general actually.), and entire biology, is not exactly the same as humans.
Like a vex simulation as described by Osiris
That's the curse riven unleashed
upon killing riven, a wish was concluded, which plunged the dreaming city into a "curse"
a 3 week cycle, where the curse grows stronger and stronger, anyone who partakes in the curse will become trapped in it
lets say week 2 before the loop had reset, you died in battle
when the third week is over, everything resets, you'll come back at the start of the week and die again at the second week.
There's an awoken corsair who always gets hurt in the first week
are you familiar with the concepts of time loops
HOW DID WE SURVIVE OR GET OUT?
It's still going
we're kinda immortal...
I don't know
The curse hasn't been lifted
have you watched groundhog day
noo
^^^
I watched endgame tho
ok first of all great movie
not a single marvel movie has ever done a time loop
Sorry that's time travel
yes

Back to the Future? Seen that one?
I'm not old enough
Fym not old enough
Bruh
I was a little kid when it was launched
One of, if not the greatest trilogy of all time
So was I and I've seen it
Heres the funny thing about movies, you can watch them even years after they were released
its barely a time loop you can compare
i will argue groundhog day is a better analogy
What about uuuh Men in Black 3
but its three weeks instead of one day
Aha
That one sorta has a time loop
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

It’s just Groundhog Day
We’re outside of the loop
Everyone else is stuck on the same path
They all do the exact same thing they would do normally and end up the same way
Actually what happens if we pick one of the Corsairs up and just move them out of the Dreaming City
The previously mentioned Corsair
She keeps going into battle literally knowing that she’s going to die
She can’t change it
Pretty sure they said they just can’t
That’s the curse
And if we were to try and change it would the curse just bend its way to still have the resulting events stay the same?
So if you die in all of the weeks, you will die again?
Does it come off if we leave dreaming city?
Coz we travel a lot
Basically when the curse activated everyone in the Dreaming City got stuck in the loop
Oh ....
We (the Guardian) werent in the Dreaming City when the loop began
Yeah
So we arent forced to go through the same motions every week
We are in the last wish raid
We can come and go and do whatever we want as we please
Gotcha
Plus we are Guardians aka paracausal so theres a possibility that even if we were caught in the curse we could make our way out of it
Cause bla bla paracausality bla bla guardians make their own fate
Basically
I wouldnt call it plot armor as it is literally explained that our powers define the laws of the universe on a fundamental level
And we arent immortal either, simply undying
so in the final shape 2nd last mission, the plan was to go to the witness' birth place to unmake it right right
how is the place existing inside the traveler, when that place is supposed to be off in some other planet or something
Most likely they simply took their birthplace and converted it into a pyramid ship
If you recall the ending cutscene of Lightfall the Witness enters the Traveler alongside 5 or so of their Pyramid ships
if it worked the way savathun hoped it would, the curse would effectively provide a non-stop supply of tribute
how familiar are you with the sword logic
In fairness, that’s exactly how it worked
These were then converted into (among other things) the spire in which Salvations Edge happens (possibly the Witness even combined it with themselves sorta fused with the ships)
i thought she didn't gain continuous tribute from it
the basis for just about all of the hives power.
Her worm’s hunger outgrew even the constant tribute from that scheme
ah
right
And well the place in which we fight the Witness in the campaign is another one of those pyramid ships that housed their birthplace
Tribute is the how all Hive get power. They kill and conquest and feed their worm in exchange for paracausal strength
With Savathûn, she can even feed her worm with cunning and deception
As Awoken died constantly on a loop and we raced around trying to figure out how to fix the curse, Savathûn gained tribute
"sword logic" is a logic where you prove that you belong in the universe, if you die, you dont belong
so by proving that you belong to exist more than something else (typically via killing) you gain power
HUH
think of it like a bonfire
the bigger the fire gets, the stronger you get
but the bigger the fire is, the more fuel you have to give it to sustian it.
fuel, in this analogy, is enacting the sword logic, usually killing something, theres some exceptions
like savathun and deciet
For the dreaming city curse
or xivu and war
Savathun gets her powers by deception?
Mf when even infinite suffering gets outscaled
Among other things yes
by sword logic, deception was one of the ways to enact it
Yeah. She’s the Hive God of Cunning and Lies (and such) so
well, that was while she had he worm
she no longer has her worm and doesnt need the sword logic anymore.
Hold up hold up
We have her worm now
In a gun :)
Lemme get this straight
Yeah, she came to Mara Sov and struck a deal to have her worm exorcised
then mara sov later on shoved the worm into a gun
This is where he worm is now
we use this worm to kill atraks in DSC quite often (this is not a lore thing)
Let me be clear 🪟
It couldnt even be a lore thing considering DSC happened pre WQ
Sword logic is something all hive subscribe to
i just want to add that in case varo thinks my joke is genuine lore
Except Lucent Hive
It is their religion, their culture, their very way of life
All hive are given worms at birth
the lucent hive subscribe to it quite often but not out of a requirement
Somewhat indirectly, they still have to keep their worms fed
more like malice.
Savathun wish for dreaming city to be cursed
Curse activated when we kill riven
So savathun gets her tribute by the curse
But what aspect does savathun get the most? Is it by deceiving all the people in dreaming city because of the curse? Or by killing people with the curse?
They just feed them with light from the wellspring
Just the curse duping us is what gives her the power
None of the hive in the DC are part of her coven
They’re not giving her any tribute from any killings they’d theoretically get
I .....
Huh?
I believe there is a worm gun
thanks, damn that's really cool i never got to know this
Her worm is special in that it feeds primarily on “an existential economy based on the accumulation of secrets and the tribute of failing-to-understand-me”
This is how Savathûn describes the process in her own words
She calls it Imbaru
i was making a joke at how we use savathuns worm to kill atraks in the deep stone crypt, despire teh deep stone crypt raid taking place before the witch queen.

It’s a meta joke about how the playerbase uses the gun
The part of the Witness fusing with the ship that is the Spire in which Salvations Edge happens is mostly speculation thats based on concept art but yeah it do be pretty cool
It doesn’t mean anything
The DC curse generated imbaru for savathun because it was literally a 24/7 generator of failure to understand
We had and still have literally no way to circumvent the curse
Ok...I think I got it
the lore of d2 is vast
Savathun created something called imbaru. This is her way if gaining power through trickery.
Every misstep you make, every false thing you think is correct, everything you don't know only gives to her as tribute.
Her worm’s appetite grew in tandem with this constant tribute
@fresh zephyrtheres this particular piece and there were also some others that have the Witness literally be the structure itself
To the point where her worm’s hunger was virtually insatiable
Oh.....
"i turned myself into a building rhulk, im building witness!"
Savathun had no choice but to exorcise her worm and then go towards the light
I already quoted that tab
Because worm eating her alive?

That’s the end result
If a hive’s worm is starving, it will resort to eating its host
That’s why they’re parasites
i apologise
You better
fun addition, oryx' worm during the kingsfall raid was kinda in the process of eating him (or am i mistaken)
So that means people in dreaming city experiences deja Vu
They thought they know what makes them deja Vu and it is wrong
So it gives imbaru to savathun?
at the very least, the oryx we fight is severely weakened
They remember everything
No they remember it all
Every single waking moment they’re fully conscious of themselves and the curse
HUH
They’re physically locked into their actions

They are doomed to repeat it every single time
The actions taken in the first three weeks
But what if an element like us who isnt part of the cycle gets involved
There’s one Awoken who keeps dying in a cave constantly right before help can arrive iirc
It’s literally every single individual caught inside the curse and everyone else who wants to stop the curse
@errant tapir it's been said many times that this weighs on them and they are extremely tired of it. Mara feels their pain of having to repeat it over and over
we still had to use oryx' own shit against him to win
Is mara cursed too?
We literally can’t change anything
She's connected to all awoken
How is this expressed is my question
If we don’t do the routine missions then the awoken just suffer more for no reason
Will the curse bends its way to end up with the same result?
So... Mara is like the queen of awoken?
Yes
its unknown if the shattered throne needs to be repeated by us every three weeks i believe
but we still do it just in case.
She is literally the awoken queen
She IS the queen
It does
huh

If it doesn’t then the curse “stops” but Dul Incaru gets away with literally all of their secrets and delivers it to savathun
i dont believe they were aggressive
That’s the stake of ST
ah
yea and that'd be pretty bad
Also something something they’d probably raid the distributary and kill everyone
Huh? Wdym?
@errant tapir Her full title is Queen Mara Sov.
OH YEAH
Personally I don’t think the loop would actually end
what would dul incaru do then?
Nah
Nothing would happen
She’d probably just give it to Xivu then
Which is even worse
I don’t think letting Dul out would even properly end the curse
It’s probably still loop but she’d still have everything she stole prior
With enough time to deliver it to whoever wants it
I don't think savathun even cares about dul because this loop keeps her from dying
What if we make all the people in dreaming city into guardians
So they can break free

And yes the shattered throne is part of the weekly curse. I believe this has been said before
That's just the end to the loop.
After that it's back to the beginning
Do the weekly missions, kill dul incaru, rinse and repeat
We should've asked savathun how to break the curse no?
We did
Tried
What did she say?
She dangled it in front of Mara’s face like keys to a toddler
She doesn't even know how to?
She just egged her on as leverage
“If you kill me you’ll never be able to”
This was during season of the wish
The dreaming city is her hostage
When savathun let herself get captured and held Osiris hostage in exchange for getting us to exorcise her worm
FAKKKK
The DC curse was additional leverage in her favor
All we really gained from it is the claim that you could end the curse if you controlled the taken
If we killed savathun we'd basically condemn the awoken
well we killed her before right?
No
We stole her corpse?
She killed herself in order to be rezzed by a ghost
Huh
