The stuff about the Witness probably came from the Dissenters. Not the statues, but the ones who rejected the whole idea in the first place,

The TFS and raid lore talk about at least one precursor who fled

And could even still potentially be alive

Since one of the Dissenters in the Witness wondered if they had survived all this time

I’ve always been a proponent that parts of Unveiling are true, and imo all that we’ve learned since the expac came out just lends more credence to it. Especially what the Witness says in regards to the Winnower during the raid.

That with the new, imo more solidified context the argument between the Gardener and the Winnower reads more like two sides of the same being perhaps trying to rationalize itself. And perhaps what lead to its schism.
