When it comes to builds generally you always want to put stats into whatever your exotic centres around. Shards of galanor would be best with melee and super so the melees you throw are stronger and available more often and then super so that the super energy you get from those melees is higher and the super itself will be stronger.

Then after those stats are sorted you can pick what else you want to spec into. Class is good on hunters because of how much you can get from dodges, grenade is also a safe option and weapons would also be fine to boost your guns a bit.

It'll take some fiddling but you can make pretty much any armour config you want.
Like paragon armour would be perfect for you since it already has super and melee on it. Then all you'd need to do is mix up those 3rd random and tuned stats.

Making your own build feels great once it clicks.
Paragon armour with a mix of different 3rd and tuned stats depending on what you want. I'd say that should be your goal rn. You can put on the ghost mod to drop paragon more often and get to grinding. As for armour sets nothing wrong with ferropotent but if you have access to the raid you could definitely try the raid set for a solar setup.

There’s certain cases where you’d make a bunch of load out swaps if you’re doing some lowman thing (ex. trio verity) that absolutely require you to do so to complete it but you’re obviously not doing any of that.

But in general loadout swapping is a good thing and you should do it for damage optimization. All you do is have a second build with weapons for DPS and/or a different damage exotic. Your stats may change (150 super 200 weapons) and then you’d have surges and fonts. It’s very easy to do and if whatever activity you’re playing requires it or would greatly benefit from it all you have to do is press 3 buttons.

Loadout swapping is not needed by any kind of content in the game. It's just for players who want absolutely perfect damage optimisation or peeps doing crazy challenges.
If you don't like loadout swapping nothing is going to be inaccessible to you not doing it and a proper build will do more than fine in any kind of content.

Correct. The reasoning behind it is with loadout swaps you’ll have what’s referred to as a “running” loadout and a damage loadout. Your running loadout for example on prismatic hunter would be RDM’s or the exotic class item. They are great for neutral game, ad clear, and survivability. Nighthawk really doesn’t do anything other than buff your super damage. So running that the entire time would be useless when you could run something like a class item with cyra/HOIL that would be much better. When it comes time to damage, you swap to the damage loadout with high super stat and high weapons stat to deal maximum damage, then swap back to other loadout for mechanics.

You can't use melee abilities with swords. So your main exotic weapon hinders your build because you'll always have to switch weapons to be able to use a melee ability and trigger your exotic
