If it were a dungeon, the primary mechanic(s) would be giving the Shard the "Valence" treatment; Using Darkness to help the Light instead of hurting it.

Making the Shard made of both Light and Darkness, much like the Traveler is right now.

It's kind of like the Shaping mechanic in the first mission of the Final Shape campaign, but in reverse; Using Darkness to heal Light (making it understand its wounds) instead of needing Light to Give shape for Darkness.
