Just play the basic campaigns and expansions to get your legendary gear, then once your power level gets up play some nightfalls to get exotics. Make a build surrounding an exotic you choose and try and get enhancement prisms and cores to masterwork your gear.

Have you tried Luna's Howl? It is Solar, not Kinetic, but back in the day it actually used to be a Precision Frame. As such, it still has the same recoil pattern. Feels very similar.
