oh yeah 100% run those w a fireteam. you can solo them but due to powerdeltas etc they feel much more resilient than the boss versions in the actual dungeons. pinnacle ops in general are all doable solo but definitely tougher, id recommend trying featured pinnacle ops with matchmaking, or just fireteam ops or solo ops

Caliban's is good for clearing rooms of weak enemies, but I'd personally recommend Gyrfalon's Hauberk. It provides as clear and survivability.

And it means you can use Void perks other than Volatile Rounds since the Exotic provides it for you

King's Fall will not help you for that as only a very few will drop from anywhere. In answer to the general question, no, you do not need to have the weapon in question equipped but you do need to have had it drop at least once in the first place.
