Both work fine, obviously activities with bonus drops will be better until you run out though. Vanguard alert challenges are great too.

Prisms drop from activities above master in the portal.
All masterwork sources are still available in OLD nightfalls from the world tab.

Alternatively if you have an excess of any material, you can also break it down for a loss.

The best source for cores is still prisms or shards, as breaking down both of those is more effective than just grinding for cores.

Prisms are much more abundant than cores for farming

When I say breaking down a material, I don’t mean discarding it from the inventory tab. You pull blue armor from leveling in the collections tab for this process, level 10 breaks down shards to prisms, level 8 breaks down prisms to shards.
Masterworking blue gear is essentially the process here.

Could someone lmk what I should be focusing on after finishing tfs campaign, I’m a returning player from Lightfall and I bought all the new content, should I jst be grinding out the campaigns, messing w my build or what? I’ve got a hunter 3.0 void build back from when it was “meta” but I have no idea if it’s optimized anymore, and I don’t know if my guns or armor are relevant anymore

When should I think about replacing armor/guns?

prismatic generally speaking outdoes the other subclasses in a lot of ways but warlock at least has reasons to play void/solar/strand

okay so armor should be replaced asap with tiered armor since it's just better and none of your old rolls are gonna be ideal for new system bc of resilience being removed

weapons have not been phased out at all

old weapons are just as good as they always were, tiers dont mean much for guns

any new gun that's good is good in the same way it would've been just by having a good perk combo and stat package that power creeps really

for armor though you should already be getting tier 3s

which is basically the same as or better than old max roll armor stat total but you get 3 perfect spikes

basically yeah, i assume most of your old armor is gonna have health stat

health stat is a dump stat in pve unlike resil which is what it used to be

in pvp it's good but you need to push it past 100 for it to do anything

tier 3 armor gets access to the archetypes and stuff so it'll be better to build around generally

and then all the way up to tier 5 stat total

the only old armor roll that is unachieveable now would be a high roll armor with perfect spikes in super + weapons

and what got turned into weapons was mobility...

so most people werent keeping a mobility + int spike piece

Alr thanks, so in general does the perks armor set tier III+ bonus outweigh the benefit of my old armors character stats reaching 100+ for specifics like grenade etc

old armor having the stat spread at all just makes it generally worse

archetypes let you control 2/3 spikes and the third spike is random, you can pretty much spec into whatever you want and it's not very hard to replace all your armor

you'd need perfectly spiked old armor to match what new armor is doing

like this is just a random masterworked t4 brawler piece

new armor also gives some passive damage resist just for wearing it and the set bonuses do even more of that

basically old legendary armor is kinda dead unless you have a perfect like +28 +28 super/weapons piece or really good exotics, only old exotics are really relevant rn

since new exotics are capped to t2

for the actual set the set changes depending on the portal category

ferropotent is the vanguard set now so it's from solo/fireteam/arena ops which are all vanguard activities so like strikes basically

swordmaster is the pinnacle ops set

wild anthem is crucible
