Then all you can (and should) be doing is just opening exotic engrams as you get them. Exotic engrams are on a knockout system for world drop exotics (all exotic armor prior to Shadowkeep, most exotic weapons prior to Shaowkeep), so you're guaranteed to not see a dupe until you've gotten everything for your class.
