Hey sry this is gonna be kind of long and rambly, I'm a newish player reinstalling after playing like 10 hours 5 years ago after binging a load of fun looking videos on youtube about the game, but a lot of the new player guides and stuff are just explanations of mechanics that sort of thing, or they're videos basically complaining about how the new player experience sucks, and I'm basically just wondering what the best way of enjoying this game as a new player is?

The dungeons and raids and stuff all look great, the weapon and sound design looks amazing, but I've heard that the campaign and lore is near indecipherable for a new player, so would you guys just recommend blasting through all that stuff until I can get to the "fun" content (not that I know what that would be) or is there some other fun stuff I should be looking out for as a new player looking to not overwhelm myself and looking to have as much fun as possible with the cool stuff the game has to offer

The lore is difficult because the overall narrative is a bit hard to follow using pure in-game resources. However, the individual narratives of campaigns are fairly simple to understand and can be pretty enjoyable. It helps to have context going into them, but you can still enjoy them for their story development.

Regardless, I would recommend doing as many campaigns are you're willing to try before jumping into dungeons/raids. Half of them unlock subclasses, and most will have some sort of post-campaign activities that have vaulable rewards

You should try to do everything, start by completing all campaigns, then start working through all the raids and dungeons and then get into portal activities to farm power which will get you higher tier gear

I think you might be overthinking it a bit. Jump into whatever campaigns you have available and just try to enjoy running through them without too much extra effort. If you want a bit more challenge, run them on Legendary instead of Normal (when possible). If you get bored, drop them and jump straight into dungeons. Personally I'd hold of on raids a bit until you fill out your vault a bit with weapons so you're not begging teams to carry you.

The new player videos have some truth, but are sometimes cynical. The tutorial at the start of the game is a bit slow and redundant if you're familiar with FPS games in general, but there is an in-game option to skip it after the first few minutes of it. It's worth getting it done (or at least getting to that skip) because it unlocks a useful raid weapon.

This might be a bit of a hot take for some players, but the lore/story in this game is just alright, and you can very much enjoy this game without engaging with it (though I argue it enhances the experience). It's Bungie's fault for how they've handled their story and making certain parts non-accessible in-game that prevents many players from getting deep in the lore, but it's still pretty easy to follow the overall narrative and understand the stakes. The campaigns themselves can be fun to just run around, do objectives, and shoot bad guys even if you're not entirely sure why. You can always find out the why later.

The best PVE content for most invested players are the raids, which require a bit of gearing up and understanding game mechanics before you can just jump in, which is why it isn't the most beginner friendly. That said, unlike some MMOs that require hundreds of hours to reach the end game to do those, the process of getting raid ready can be pretty quick in D2 if you're willing. And while raids highlight a lot of the best parts of this game, many other activities like the campaigns, dungeons, and other modes still feature many of those fun core concepts.

Despite all of the issues in this game, people continue to play it because the core of the game is very fun. I'd highly encourage you to just jump in and take it a step at a time. There are no grinds between you and raiding that will make you feel burned out, but there is also no rush to jump straight into raiding. Take it a step at a time and feel free to ask more questions in here

Most the sets feel fairly optional at this point, just providing a little extra bonus and utility based on your personal preferences.

Personally I've been theorycrafting a lot of different builds around the set bonuses, but most are gimmicks rather than true boosts. The set I most regularly use is the Last Discipline 4 set bonus while running double special.

As far as what to chase, the Luminous set is the only limited time one, so I'd get a set of it if you care before it leaves in a week.

IMO quite a bit worse than Praedyth's Revenge using the same roll (assuming you're referring to FttC+EH). Lance Ephemeral only gets 35% from EH compared to Prae's 40% for being Kinetic. Prae runs FttC so successfully due to its post-Super origin. Not only is Lance not able to leverage FttC in the same way, but Lance's own origin requires too much setup by comparison. Insultingly, it only gives a 7% bonus at max stacks, which then only closes the gap on EH. Sure, Lance can get the 10% New Gear boost, but unless you have a group to farm 5 Feat DP runs, it's likely just going to be 2%.

I'm not sure what the difference is between Mint and Prae at the moment, but I'd still use Prae over Lance regardless.

Current armor can reliably get 30-20 in any two stats. It can be worth keeping old armor if it's a better split than that. However, old armor will have less total stats than new armor. Old legendary armor could reach a max of 93, new armor can reach a max of 103. Old armor doesn't get set bonuses.

Don't unlock the Solstice armor to keep the event loot pool small and have a higher chance at the GL. If you've already unlocked it on one character, farm the event on a character you haven't unlocked the armor on. Do whatever activity is the quickest with a Solstice reward, which is likely Solo Ops and also likely Caldera or K1.

When you get to Suro Chi, there is a Raid Banner so you can refill ammo, and you walk in and there are tons of adds.

You basically slay out killing all the adds until they run out, then you kill yourself and reset

Apex had 2 things happen to it:

1. Reconstruction got nerfed really hard and made it worse than most other reload options.
2. Hezen Vengeance, along with the other VoG weapons, was refreshed and got new perks and a new origin. The perks by themselves were already good (EA + BnS/EH), but the new origin pushed it to a whole other level. It's by far the best rocket, even against rockets like Cold Comfort and Cynosure that can get the same perks.

realistically, it's not a set number. You make sets as you make builds that you need, using exotics you need, for activities you want to run

some people have 4, some people fill out their 10 slots, some people have 30 and overflow them in DIM as well

when i did it there was lots of different people saying different things so not sure 100% which parts of this are needed, but what i did is:

• get the microcosm exotic from the quest from micah (i dont think this part is actually needed but some sources included it so i did it, it's a decent gun anyways)
• clear overthrow in all 3 zones, this will start lucent hive wizards spawning on specific areas of the map after an overthrow is cleared. some sources also said all these clears had to be done without going to orbit, i didnt go to orbit but i dont know if that's true
• after that all 3 lucent wizards need killing, so overall that's 5 overthrows you gotta do
• that spawns a green beam in the sky you can see from the blooming zone
• dual destiny mission can be started in a speciofic spot between the landing and the blooming, but i forget exactly where that spot is
• after the mission is found it can be launched from the map/from orbit instead of having to go to it
