Well you have high stat armor so I would say yeah but it's up to you (featured armor only gives bonus dr but the last contest raid did not involve featured giving more DMG or more Dr)

The weapons won't be inherently better, they'll just have the 10% damage boost at tier 5 (unless they change it before then). Perks are the main thing by which weapons are judged, so many of the current (and old) weapons will still be relevant.

The class ability regen and the shurikens triggering a fkload of shatters is what makes it click... so Prismatic has all the important parts of the Stasis kit while being able to replace the meh parts

It's very easy to be overwhelmed, but here's what I'd suggest:

1. Take the game slow and do the tutorial. It's not perfect, but it will get you familiar with the world, NPCs, and enemies.
2. Talk to Ikora in the Tower, grab the New Light kit (I'd recommend either Solar or Void), and start unlocking all the different subclasses, aspects, and fragments. You might not need them right away, but future you will be happy you unlocked them later.
3. Focus on increasing your Power from 10 to 200. Pretty much every activity in the game will help with this, so just choose what sounds fun. Don't worry too much about what stats on armor or weapons are "meta", just mess around with what you find fun and powerful. You'll likely get much better stuff later anyway.
4. If you're not sure what activities to start with, the campaigns are a great place to begin. You don't necessarily need to play them in order, the overall lore can be a bit difficult to follow without outside help, but the campaigns themselves tell pretty decent stories. If you do want to try to follow the lore, the order is Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, and Edge of Fate. I'd also recommend watching a lore summary video alongside your playthrough to get some additional background info, as well as seasonal story lines that no longer exist in the game. Finally, completing the Beyond Light, Lightfall, and The Final Shape campaigns will unlock the Stasis, Strand, and Prismatic subclasses, so it's generally a good idea to make sure you do at least those.
5. If you're done with the campaigns, or just want to mix things up, it's a great idea to start unlocking as many Exotic weapons and armor as you can. While some are more useful than others, there's no right or wrong order to unlocking them. Like subclasses, future you will thank you for unlocking them now.
6. The new Portal menu is looking like the future of how we do Destiny content. Be sure to check out all the different activities there if you're unsure what to do next. Otherwise, the World tab contains most the older content in the game, which is still very fun, so don't forget about it if the Portal is seeming boring.
7. Don't fall into the "double primary" trap. I know infinite ammo is tempting, but special weapons are very powerful and it's worth using at least one. I'd get in the habit of running a Primary to kill the weaker "red health bar" enemies and a Special to kill the stronger "yellow health bar" enemies.

Yeah many activities have no matchmaking. Only some lower level activities will let you matchmake, such as the playlist activities
