If you've never done a Day 1, it can be very different than doing a raid normally. Enemies are much tougher to deal with, playing your life is paramount, your team has little to no information on what to do, puzzles require solving using minimal external resources, damage strategies aren't polished, there's a great deal of personal responsibility both within mechanics and damage, and you need a ton of mental fortitude. Contest mode requires long hours (10+) of playing at your very best, and there is very little room for frustration, fatigue, or failure. It's a rough environment and it's not uncommon to see many people quit without the clear. And that's okay, contest mode is hard, not everyone will clear. It can still be a great time even if you know you won't, just getting to experience some of that hype as a community and giving it your best shot can be a ton of fun. But people that are serious about getting the clear want proof that those they're inviting are also up to the task. If someone quits part of the way through, it's can be very difficult to find a good replacement on such short notice. So the best way to prove it is by having done it before.

Depends on team experience and what raid you are doing. I would say 2-3 hours for a teaching run of older raids.

But raids also have checkpoints and you don’t have to do the whole thing in one full run

Power doesn’t matter but checkpoints stay on a character if they don’t clear the encounter. They get the encounter checkpoint by starting an encounter and wiping.

You haven't progressed the Echoes story enough, then. I would recommend ignoring the Choir upgrades until you've gotten far enough where it's Encore: Coda or just Encore with no subtitle. The mission changes as you progress the story.

Slightly improved version of a weapon. For Trials you'll need a Trials of Osiris Passage and get at least a 4-win streak before you finish the passage and head to the lighthouse. Encore and Kell's Fall (the Echoes and Revenant exotic missions, respectively) are made available from progressing their seasonal stories into Act 3. De-Realize (the Heresy exotic mission) is accessed from progressing a questline started by finding a secret Taken blight in the Nether. Where it spawns is semi-random (there's only one spot per zone it can be in, but there's no guarantee which zone it'll spawn in a given Nether session nor is there a guarantee that it'll spawn at all).

It's RNG. No, the game is not bugged for you, or broken, it's simply bad luck.

• Bungie does not publish drop rates.
• We don't know how many estimated runs it will take for a specific item to drop.
• We do not know how much drop-rate-boosting triumphs contribute either, since we don't know the base drop rate.
• Runs are all separate environments. A 1/3 chance does not mean you get the loot you want one out of three times, it just means there is that percentage of chance whenever you run the activity that you get said loot.
• Perks are not weighted. All weapons drop with their perks at the same rate.
