I think if you're just getting a feel for the game just commit to paying with each subclass for a couple of days to get a good understanding. You wont really have to worry about meta or team comp till you decide to participate in end game content. In this phase just get acquainted with everything.

Historically, Solar has had some insane solo builds, but most of them have been nerfed. However, I still prefer it to Void. Arc is currently very strong this season and Strand with its Banner of War is very reliable.

I love hunter. Great dps with solar super, team cohesion with teather. Plus prismatic Is broken and all supers kinda slap on pve and pvp. Some.of the best exotics and movement for pvp as well.

The classes are just types of carbs; bread, rice, and pasta. They're all a bit different, but you could have any with a meal. Subclasses are like sauces, they're supposed to elevate what you're making. Sometimes a sauce is amazing and you want it every meal, sometimes the recipe for a sauce gets tweaked and it tastes worse than it used to. But the real decisions come down to the meat, your guns. A good enough meat can carry the entire meal regardless of carb or sauce.

Yes, Well is a rift. You get 4x Surge + bonus marked target damage alongside the Well benefits. If you're using a non-Solar weapon, you drop well then swap to another subclass to typematch the super. Then when DPS is done you swap back to Solar.

We aren't sure. Traditionally, they've removed seasonal content from the game at the end of the year when a new DLC drops. However, they had made a point that "Episodes" would be treated different than seasons and potentially have so more longevity, but we never really heard any details regarding that. So most people are assuming the Nether along with all the other Episodic activities will go away July 15th, but Bungie hasn't actually clarified that. Throwing an additional wrinkle into the mix, old seasonal activities "The Coil" and "Savathun's Spire" are potentially coming back with the addition of The Portal content menu.

Regardless, typically Exotic missions are added to the weekly Exotic mission rotator, where you can play them to unlock the weapon, intrinsic, and catalysts.

Explorer is like an easier mode with in-game tips that teach new players how to do the dungeon. Ultimatum is a mode that tries to get close to Contest mode difficulty.

Primaries are kinda whatever you want to use, a lot of the classics are still nice, void is a lot stronger since they buffed Destabilizing Rounds. Hezen Vengeance is the RL to use for DPS. Lord of Wolves, Queenbreaker, and Winterbite are the exotics to use for DPS. There are other things as well, but this should cover most cases

If you're using that to farm Atheon, you don't really need much. Probably a solar surge and the Helion aspect for more free damage. You're likely not going to use your Heavy since you'll be spamming nades (also Apex is kinda bad now). Personally I like running Eriana's Vow for proccing Verity, but that's personal preference.

They're a bit goofy. Originally they were added to the game to only modify Iron Banner gear, and that function still works, so you should see it if you try to change the appearance of Iron Banner gear. However, you can use Synthweave to unlock it for all gear if you want.

As far as earning gear to scrap for cores, it kinda depends on what you're comfortable with doing. Some raid encounters can be done very quick (Like VoG's Templar encounter which takes like a minute per clear) and will give you at least one weapon/armor per clear that you can scrap for cores. The current Rite of the Nine event also has been handling out a lot of gear for completing full runs

In Normal, it's just a 2nd reward from that encounter. For example, normal VoG Templar can drop Fatebringer, Visions of Confluence, Corrective Measure, Arms, or Chestpiece. Doing the challenge will spawn a 2nd reward chest that can also drop one of those things. Farming challenges in Normal is a common way to go for Red Borders since you have double the chance of getting one.

In Master, each encounter rewards a specific weapon, so you'll get a bonus one for doing the challenge. For Example, master VoG Templar can drop Fatebringer (Timelost). Doing the challenge means you'll get two Fatebringer (Timelost), helping you farm god rolls.

If you want to remain F2P, there is also the Shadowkeep campaign. If you're tired of campaigns, you have quite a few options. First are the ritual activities Vanguard Ops, Gambit, and Crucible. They are tied to the "Pathfinder" system, which is like little challenges you can do while in those activities for some neat rewards, including Bright Dust (the free Eververse currency). If you want some nice weapons or like wave-based horde modes, Onslaught is a lot of fun. If you want a more structured challenge, there are a couple of dungeons available for F2P players, including the limited time event ones in the Rite of the Nine. If you want a bigger challenge, there are also a couple of F2P raids.

Red War was introduced as a permanent story that they took away. Seasons were always temporary stories. It's the expectation

That's valid and your choice. You deciding to do that is voting with your money. If enough people vote the same as you, the company needs to adjust there monetization strategy since FOMO content wouldn't sell.

That's a fair assumption, but they did talk a lot pre-Episodes about how people were sad seasonal content like The Coil and Savathun's Spire were taken away and that they wanted to try something different with Episodes. Also, they showed off both of those activates in the preview for The Portal, so there is an extremely good chance they're coming back.

So it's fair to assume they're going, but they haven't actually confirmed it yet

For context, these are from the previous season annoucement pages. I can't find anything similar for any of the Episodes. With the introduction of the Portal, they might leave the Destination (or now "World") map exactly how it is, which means leaving The Last City and all the Episode content there.

But yeah, they should clarify it at some point. If they do leave it in, it'll likely become free, so I think they're delaying the announcement to get last minute FOMO purchases so people don't wait the few weeks to get it free.
