If you have Episode Echoes or access to Onslaught: Salvation in the Last City, yes

There isn’t a pressing need for you to do all that if you don’t want to. You’ll eventually get better gear. The weapons stat is probably gonna be crucial for DPS checks in the contest raid and with only a few days to prepare it’ll be more beneficial to have older armor for players to use rather than potentially not getting any new armor with that’s stat.

Some people are prepping gear because they are prepping for raid or they have nothing better to do. Unless they retroactively apply set bonuses to our gear (unlikely), current gear will be immediately outclassed by the new stuff coming out.

If you are looking for more impactful ways to prep, unlocking all the subclasses+upgrades you have access to across all the classes you play is always a good idea. The meta is going to shift quite radically and we have no idea what classes and builds will be strong. Similarly, Exotics will play a crucial role in nearly every build, so unlocking them as many as you can now will also help you prep for whichever direction the meta shifts. If you've done both of those, you can do some of the more minor things like Exotic prepping for Rahool or Bounty prepping to get a bit of an edge at launch. Finally, while the weapon system is changing, it won't be nearly as dramatic as the armor change. Most of the current weapons will still be viable, so it pays to farm out some of those top options you might be missing, especially those from the Episodic content

Heresy continues the trend of the final season of the year being the strongest of the year. Rite of the Nine (a new f2p event focused on the Prophecy, Ghosts of the Deep, and Spire of the Watcher Dungeon) is going on until Edge of Fate releases.

In general, it depends on how long ago you played last, why you stopped playing, and if you have any serious interest in doing the raid during contest mode.

I stopped playing 1-2 month after the final shape expansion release (so around a year ago), I don’t have interest in competing during contest mode but I love playing during the first month of expansion release because the community feels so alive during that time.

If you don't care about contest mode raiding then most of the reason why you'd want/need to prep for a new season goes away. There are certainly weapons to go after (Datto put out a video this week with some suggestions), but you arguably don't need any of it, either.

Turning in Metastasized Essentia is the main method of acquiring them, and the easiest way I found of acquiring them is by equipping the Expert Tracker ghost mod, then doing full Nether runs to farm for other guns while grabbing as many Essentia as you can find. There tends to be 2 per zone and they are in somewhat fixed locations. However, if you're purely after Temptation's Hook, you can go to the Shaping Slab and equip the Essentia Rune that lets you keep one on failure. Load into Nether, grab the first Essentia you see, then load into another instance of Nether. You'll keep the one you grabbed thanks to the Rune, so you can chain instances until you get bored and turn them all in.

Not really sure why you want Temptation's Hook in the first place though haha

Like Curltoes said, it's functional but barely. If you heard it was recommended, that's because it was broken when the Nether launched. Unrelenting was unaffected by the healing changes, so it made healing to full very trivial, which was funny because more traditional sources of healing like Healing Grenade and Well barely did anything. Nowadays everything is much better balanced, so traditional healing sources are preferred.

Outside of Nether, Unrelenting has become irrelevant (due to changes over time), Heal Clip is the preferred option.

Heresy was pretty fun. Nether was very refreshing and Court of Blades was fine. Weapons were interesting, mainly Psychopomp and Adamantite were the two standouts. Watchful Eye and Abyssal Edge were still fan favorites.

Revenant was a flop. Onslaught: Salvation was just more of the same Onslaught we've had since Into the Light, so it felt a bit boring even with the seasonal changes. Tomb of Elders was better, but not enough to sway opinion. In terms of weapons, most were lackluster. Liturgy and Bitter/Sweet were the two main standouts. Vantage Point and Noxious Vetiver are decent Jolting Feedback options.

Episode Echoes activites were meh, but it had the best loot by far. It was the last season with craftable weapons, and among those are all-stars like Lost Signal and Aberrant Action (and Chronophage if you like StL Traces). Then we had Enigma Protocol with Perfect Paradox, arguably the best 12p shotgun available, as well as a pretty nice version of Martyr's Retribution.

With a month left, there is still plenty of time to farm for all these, but it depends on if you're okay with spending the money on the Annual Pass.

It's very much a case by case basis. In a DPS rotation, it depends on your loadout. Currently it's in the top DPS rotation since it helps proc Envious Arsenal easily, but that's it's main purpose, not damage. For add clear, Psychopomp is much more spamable and VS Velocity Baton has more utility. Most people I see run it use it for Transcendance building, but even that has become a bit more niche now that other methods have been tested and proven.

They changed how the chests work. If you're doing the old method of opening random world chests, the chances of them dropping are very low. If you do the Overthrow activities and open the chests at the end, your odds of it dropping improve

I'm not sure if there is a guide that includes both the worms and chess pieces, but you have plenty of time in each area to check two separate videos. The hardest part is just reloading the Nether until you end up in the right area.

If it is Strikes, it tends to require the actual Vanguard Ops Playlist. Nightfalls do not increase the drop rate, but do have some of their own catalyst drops.

Lord of Wolves, I would suggest a solar rocket if you want more damage, but a machine gun for add clear also a good ideal

You also have Parasite, which can be pretty good against certain bosses. Izanagi's Burden used to be a staple, but sees less use now though it could always become popular again with the right meta shifts. Merciless has some niche boss DPS uses, but that's for more advanced situations. Still Hunt is still alright in certain situations.

Honestly, just stick with Lord of Wolves and Queenbreaker, you'll be doing respectable damage.
