If you mean the original recluse, it's not great. Master of Arms isn't the godkiller perk anymore. There's a reprised version from Vanguard Onslaught that's capable of better-for-modern-destiny perks, but SMGs aren't in a great spot atm.

The chance only increases for doing Overthrow encounters, so if you're just opening chests, you're not stacking anything

From when Bungie announced the change, the only thing they called out as resetting the chance is getting a class item to drop, so I wouldn't expect it to care what overthrow you're in

reinstalled the game a couple days ago and havent done anything past getting prismatic class cos theres so much to do but it also feels so empty without any dlc. i just dont know what things i should start learning about, what would you guys say are the essential things that i should be up to date on?

A lot of the game will be changing on July 15th, so I wouldn't stress weapons and armor too much at the moment as we continue to get more info about how those future systems will work. Personally, I'd just work on unlocking every subclass you have access to along with all the upgrades they can get for all the classes you play. That way you're prepared for anything the game throws at you. Past that, I'd work on completing any campaigns and quests that you're interested in or that you think might be good to get out of the way now. Last, I'd play any limited time content you have access to. Get any seasonal items and challenges done that you're interested in, finish up the exotic missions for the intrinsics/catalysts, play and farm the Rite of the Nine dungeons for the limited-time shiny weapons.

my primary issue is that idek what is worth going for and what would be a waste of time. i have no clue what weapons are useful (although someone in the pve channel just told me earlier what is meta and said i should do echoes for some good guns ) and i dont have any dlc at the moment so im basically stuck with barebones content. im also just about to watch a video on armour 3.0 so im prepared for that next month.

imma get all the dlc sometime next week so i plan on playing through all the campaigns and unlocking every class for my hunter (although idk if i wanna stay as a hunter or swap to warlock since i was told hunter is the weakest class atm). i guess i will play the beyond light campaign to unlock stasis as well as the outbreak and whisper missions since i heard the weapons now have rolls on them.

Finishing the campaigns and unlocking your subclasses will always be a worthwhile activity on all your classes. We never know what will be meta, and it's not fun to have to unlock that stuff later while everyone else is having fun. A recent example is how the Titan meta has been almost exclusively Prismatic and Arc, then all of a sudden Strand Titan is popular again because it's good against a few of the bosses in Rite of the Nine. As a current f2p player, you should be able to fully unlock Solar, Void, Arc, and Stasis. I would do that on Hunter and Warlock (and maybe Titan) so that way it doesn't matter which one you pick.

Speaking of, don't worry about what's "weakest" or "strongest" at the moment. All classes are able to complete all content in the game. It's just that certain classes get access to some of the more easily broken options for a particular patch. When Final Shape launched, Hunters were the best thanks to Still Hunt being meta, more recently Titans have been everywhere thanks to the artifact supercharging Storm's Keep. There will always be an ebb and flow, but your chosen class will never be completely irrelevant. That said, it is pretty easy to play multiple classes. I "main" Warlock, but happily switch to Titan and Hunter if it helps me out or seems more fun. I was stuck grinding the Ghost of the Deep Ultimatum bosses for a gold rating on Warlock and just couldn't seem to make it happen. I swapped over to Titan and almost immediately got gold. My point is to just play what looks fun, you don't have to be stuck with anything.

Since you brought it up, it is extremely worthwhile to unlock crafting. Essentially, certain weapons in the game (usually from raids, campaign, or seasonal content) will sometimes drop with a "red border". You can "extract" the red border to get part of that weapon's "pattern". Collect enough parts (usually 5) and you'll fully unlock the pattern letting you craft the weapon. The reason crafting is so desirable is because you can choose any perks you want, letting you easily make your own god roll. Also, certain Exotic weapons (like Outbreak Perfected and Whisper of the Worm) have the ability to be crafted, letting you edit some of their non-exotic perk options making them better than the base version. There's more to it than that, but I'll leave it to a later discussion.

Last, it never hurts to try and unlock as many exotic weapons and armors in the game that you can. While we're not quite sure if our legendary weapons and armor will be any good in the new system, we do know that they will be modifying all the Exotics to work. So farming those out now will save you some time and headache in the future

Alright, I guess imma just focus on getting my Hunter geared up instead of worrying about what is best to use. I have never been a super serious or meta focused player so I'm fine with using things that are "suboptimal" as long as it is fun. Funnily enough, I wanted to stick with my Hunter because the Still Hunt sniper looks fun as hell to use. I think I will just play how I used to play way back in the day, primarily as a Hunter but swapping to a Titan or Warlock if I need to do so in a raid (speaking of which, I need to find people to run all the raids with so I guess I will be back on LFG next week).

So for crafting, I can keep farming a certain weapon then build it with whatever perks I want to once I get 5 red borders? That seems interesting. I was wondering what patterns meant so is that basically like an empty version of a weapon (as in, without any perks)? I already have 1 gun with a red border that says I can extract.

So it looks like once I finish all the campaigns, I will go hunting for Exotics :) I guess I will spend the next few weeks catching up on all the stuff I have missed as well as grinding out ROTN for guns and then I will actually grind out the game when the next expansion comes out.

That sounds like a good plan. Be sure to take your time and pace yourself, especially with the non-Hunter subclasses, you can always do it later (especially Strand).

Remember there is a free set of max level 2020 gear available for each of your characters in the Rite of the Nine hub area, part of a catchup event to help new and returning players get ready for the Edge of Fate. If you want to be meta, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to start unlocking Exotics and crafted weapons, as many of them are either top tier or great alternatives. If you're looking for a raid suggestion, Vault of Glass is available for free and the final boss drops 3 of the best crafted weapons currently available, with the main focus being the rocket launcher Hezen Vengeance (which pairs excellently with Still Hunt).

Exactly right regarding red borders. Any time you get one, just extract the pattern right away. It'll go into your "Patterns & Catalysts" in the "Collections" tab where you can view your progress on all the different crafted weapons. Additionally, you can "make" your own red borders with an item called a "Deepsight Harmonizer". They're fairly rare and mostly come from the paid battle passes, but you can apply them to a non-red border weapon to give it a red border. Note that this only works on weapons that could naturally drop a red border (so you can't just craft any weapon in the game), but it is a good way to finish off weapons if you're at 4/5 and can't get that last RNG drop haha. Or if there is a weapon you really like but is annoying to try and get (like some of the old seasonal weapons). Last note, you can't use multiple Deepsight Harmonizers on the same weapon. Like lemons, once you've squeezed the red border out of a weapon, you can't keep squeezing to get more, you'll have to get another one and squeeze that instead.

Last note about exotics, most exotic armor is unlocked through the vendor Rahool. This is a somewhat recent change, so a lot of guides on the internet will have outdated info. Your goal should be to max out Rahool's reputation (get him to rank 17), then use the option to reset his rank and unlock "Novel Decryption". It will let you spend 1 Exotic Cipher + 1 Exotic Engram to unlock any Exotic armor you own the DLC for. The way you increase his rank is just by using him to open engrams, however you'll get more rank progress if you use his focus options, though it'll cost more resources to do so.

Good luck! Don't get too burned out on the subclass grind, just chip away at it while it's fun to do and you're motivated!

Thanks for the advice on the red borders. The video I saw never mentioned the Harmonisers so that is really good to know :) I don't think I would ever pay for the battle pass (since DLC already costs a fair amount) but that is good to know if ever I decide to buy it. It defo makes sense to only apply on craftable weapons.

Interesting, so Exotics don't really have quests or random drops anymore? That is good to know. I have no idea what focusing means but I am sure I will learn it quickly. The whole levelling him up thing makes sense. Basically, open engrams and level up Rahool to be able to unlock any exotics for free. Seems like an easier method than the pure RNG we used to have, although a little more hands on.

I definitely have always had an issue of burnout in Destiny (going all the way back to Destiny 1 lmao) so I will defo try to get a lot of stuff done but also focus on just having fun. I love raiding so I just wanna get to a position in which I won't be a liability to any raid groups I meet in LFG, as well as being in a good spot for the raid that (I'm assuming) will come with next month's expansion.

i am on consecration titan and was trying to add clear with consecration for my teammates in boss room but we were still eventually overrun as the boss was 2 shotting us while killing adds

Aeons aren't meta but have some support potential and Izanagi's Burden is a handy tool that hits like a truck.

I like to clear all the ads first before focusing on the ogre, take cover when you can, and if you have a warlock that can use SOF it’s good for stunning the orge while you continue to pelt at it

Ad clear weapons like rocket sidearms help as well, for consecration just try get transcendence as quick as you can

I mean for Warlock just run geomags and arc warlock, it’s pre good rn, or if u have sunbracers on solar u still get to melee and spam grenades

Hazard P is pre good for some GM’s and is good for DPS swapping for longer phases after using Tcrash with cuirass, but if u want a safe option I’d stick with lorely, decent for solo content in solar

Second is timed and you have a knight following you round who you have to kill at the end

Rainbow road is timed now and can be extended with tolands, but skipped with slipstreaming

Given the reward tier is tied to activity difficulty and activity difficulty is gated by power which you definitely won't be able to reach on day one, I'm gonna say you won't.

Like for the higher difficulties, we'll be looking at 300-450 as a hard requirement (it won't even let you try to launch if you're under), and 200 is the soft cap.
