There is no point in doing dps if you can't survive to do it in the first place.

If you going for Ultimatium gold run, pick what your best class.

DPS check is not that high and usually you will 2 phases the boss anyway. Eitheir glaive or lord of wolves.

Hunter can make mechanic phase easier because of their invis, for deep sight + dunking buff.

Go to the Rite of the Nine area (where the Emissary is) and attune to Cold Comfort, it'll drop more frequently that way. You can farm Ultimatum for Adepts, but it's not that much of a bonus over the regular version.

You can learn the dungeon with Explore mode, and you can farm the normal rocket on Eternity mode. There's even a popular farm where you just do the water traversal section for the miniboss chest over and over so you don't have to learn any real encounters.

Or you can just wait til Lootapalooza when they buff all the drop rates and sit in 2nd encounter slaying adds.

PVP will be easy to jump back into, just queue in and have fun with it. If you see someone doing well, inspect them and look at what subclass and gear they're rocking.

PVE is a little more tricky. They've added the option to have RPG style "builds" in the game. You don't need to know all the details specifically, if you see something you like, you can just copy it exactly and noone will be mad.

If you don't plan on buying any more DLC right away, I'd give the new Onslaught mode a try. It's like a wave-based horde survival mode. There's a 10 round quickplay mode, I'd do that just to get your feet wet. Plus the weapons that drop are pretty good, which will help get you back up to speed.

However, before you start, go to the Destinations tab > Eternity > Rite of the Nine, and go up to the NPC called the Emissary. There is a chest to the left of them that has a bunch of free max level gear to help returning players catch up

My PS Plus (Extra) just ran out and I’m not sure whether to get Essential solely to play through Lightfall and The Final Shape (which is currently on Essential). I only just started playing again after a few years away and previously played on Xbox, which doesn’t require a subscription to play D2. Does any of the content of those expansions make PS Plus necessary?
