Assuming you're after the Exotic, you need to farm the Spire last boss for it to drop. If you get the Triumphs, it should increase the drop rate, so it would benefit you to get as many as you can. If a Triumph is too hard, then it might not be worth trying to get and instead spending that time on additional runs.

Welcome back! A lot has changed since you last played, and some huge changes are coming on July 15th with the new DLC, armor and weapons are getting massive reworks.

I'd suggest going to your Destination's tab, clicking "Eternity" (top right), and clicking the big circled called "Rite of the Nine". You should see an NPC called The Emissary and two chests. The chest to the left has a full set of 2020 gear for free to help returning players like yourself get all caught up. Make sure to take everything. The other chest lets you spend currancy for event weapon rolls, so just ignore that for now.

With the weapon and armor rework coming soonish, I wouldn't focus too hard on grinding for those unless you really want to. Instead, if you have The Final Shape, I'd prioritize unlocking the Prismatic subclass as most of the meta centers on it.

If you do own any of the seasonal content, I would focus on getting any rewards that appeal to you from there, especially the red borders from Episode Echoes.

If you're still looking for things to do, the Rite of the Nine event has been pretty fun. There are a handful of decent weapons with some cool, limited-time skins, so you could hunt for those.

If you want some more practical advice for gearing up for raids/dungones, I'd visit the Vault of Glass and farm Atheon for his 3 crafted weapons. All of them are top tier, but the rocket launcher Hezen Vengeance is currently the best in the game.

Nether can be pretty tough if you're not used to it. Health doesn't restore in the normal way and everything feels like it hits pretty hard. Running builds that are good at survival (healing, invisible, etc) can be a good way to get your bearings while you start to unlock the perks in the Shaping Slab. I'd also highly recommend playing on Explore to start, or at least playing with teammates in the normal mode.

If you're after the red border weapons, each week you can get 2 guaranteed from beating the mission on Expert and 1 guaranteed from beating the mission on Normal, for 3 total guaranteed.

After that, it's just RNG from the end chest, and the drop rates seem to be similar between Normal and Expert. So I'd recommend just farming Normal. Given how big the loot pools are, how long the rotation cycle is, and how tedious these missions can be, these weapons are the number one target to use Deepsight Harmonizers on.

Depends on whether you plan on spending money.

If you don't plan on buying anything, I'd finish unlocking Stasis from the Beyond Light campaign (if you haven't already). I'd then go to the Rite of the Nine area and grab the free set of 2020 armor to help returning players catch up. After that, it's just up to what you want to do. The Rite of the Nine has been pretty fun and is available for free, there are some cool looking weapons in it. Onslaught is also a lot of fun and has a lot of great weapons. PVP is around if that's your jam. The Vault of Glass is f2p and recently had its rewards revamped, many of which are top tier. Could be worth your time to learn that raid.

If you spend money, it depends on what you buy. The Lightfall campaign unlocks strand (and comes after The Witch Queen in the story), The Final Shape unlocks Prismatic (which is very popular), and the Seasonal content has a ton of great limited-time content. Specifically Episode Echoes.

There is a DLC pack called "The Light and Darkness bundle" that contains everything and regularly goes on sale for pretty cheap. Personally I like the DLCs and seasonal content a lot, I'd pick that up the next time there is a sale.

As for the individual DLCs, Lightfall was a bit of a flop in terms of campaign, though a lot of people enjoy the Strand subclass. The Final Shape was widely praised and unlocks Prismatic, which is by far the most popular subclass in the game.

If you buy just The Final Shape, you'll also get the seasonal content Episode Heresy, which has been pretty fun. It will likely go away on July 15th, so if you're interested in it, you should probably get it sooner rather than later. The other seasons, Episode Echoes and Episode Revenant, will also likely go away then, but you'll need the Annual pass to access them. Personally Episode Echoes has the best rewards between all 3 seasons, but Heresy has the better activities. Revenant was mostly a flop.

If you've never done Grasp, the rewards work a little different than normal dungeons. TL;DR: Don't farm Grasp, just wait for the new system.

• You can get Demo/Lead + Redirection on the regular roll, Chain Reaction is unique to ROTN.
• Gravity Well origin is actually really strong, especially on a BGL.
• Tusk is still nice, and it wouldn't hurt to have a copy of each, but both are still waveframes in an age of rocket sidearms and area denials.

If you have access to Episode Echoes, it's far easier. If not, I wouldn't sweat it. The armor system is getting a massive overhaul on July 15th. Everyone in the game will be refarming their armor then

It's not so much that they're mediocre exotics, it's moreso that they just don't have their full potential until you finish the catalyst.
There are some however that either got a catalyst later on or had their catalyst changed which would fit your criteria

Onslaught has a lot of great weapons to get caught up on. The current Rite of the Nine event is a great way to learn the dungeons Spire of the Watcher, Ghost of the Deep, and Prophecy while getting some limited-time shiny weapons. Vanguard Ops / Nightfalls are still fun, plus you can work on the new Pathfinder system and earn some Bright Dust for cosmetic rewards. Crucible and Gambit are things that might tickle your fancy. Recently the raid Vault of Glass had its weapons reprised with new perks, many of which are top tier. It's one of the easier raids to learn.

Joining a clan and playing social can help make the game that much more fun, but there is still plenty to do solo.

If you're willing to spend money, the Light and Darkness bundle includes nearly everything (except a couple dungeons) and regularly goes on sale. TFS also introduces the Pale Heart, which has a lot of cool collectables and a neat Exotic sword called Ergo Sum. Plus you'll get the annual pass and get access to the seasonal content, which it's not too late to start on.

But what about having a cool ass looking guardian? my hunter and titan are full of blue rarity armor because i need to increase my light. But i see some guys with 2020 light power and having a really good looking set, i even went into r/destinyfashion and i was amazed. Also what about farming for armor stats? i know what stats do but i dont know which missions to do again and again to find the right armor with the right stat, you get me? i dont mind spending money and getting expansions but i really want to get things straight for now before getting deeper into the game so i dont have any regrets.

The main way to get cool looking armour is from just having lots of armour sets that you can mix and match

There's also ornaments in the eververse store that usually look pretty cool

Also you won't have to play crucible because none of the top tier pve weapons are locked behind it atm

Xur has a repeatable Armour engram for older sets that you can't get anywhere else for relatively cheap, but most good looking sets come from dungeons, raids and the eververse yes

and as far as stats go, the entire armour system is getting a rework in just about a month or so
