If you ever drop headhunter stacks you're kind of screwed and enemy types with helmets pretty much force you to

as good as headhunter is it's very finnicky

my take on it is that as it was implemented on the pts it loses what made the loot in the game feel good, i like ikia's post about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/thedivision/comments/1rzz5jh/prototype_gear_in_its_pts_implementation_is_a/

it does too much and is basically just like bringing the game back to gear 1.0's issues in div2y1 while also launching lvl 50 gear when they said they wouldn't ever do lvl 50

the math for dropping prototype gear is horrific and you likely will never get what you want which makes upgrading the only feasible way and that is behind a currently terrible expertise grind

they've made some changes to it at least but its still not great

they're going to have to spend the next year nerfing prototype gear over and over or see the game die

the lack of recal for prototype gear is damning too

some sets are worthless without recalibrating the core stat

and they wont even be able to drop like that

so either you upgrade at expertise 30 or you dont get to use it at prototype tier

at least expertise isnt an ever climbing system with the new items

pretty happy that they decided to cap it at 30 rather then increase with each new drop

i hope they walk stuff back on this update asap because they managed to get ikia to just flat out quit the game over this and he's basically the cornerstone of the community, wouldnt be surprised to see other people follow

frustrating to see a change like this that breaks so many existing systems get dropped with like a week of warning and no feedback taken into account other than some token number changes that dont really solve anything

Its extremely rng dependent while also being majorly stronger (as a groll) than high end gear, with no recourse on reigning in the rng with things like recalibration. Not only that, but it massively widens an already steep grind that new players are met with

We also dont know if theres plans to add activities or difficulties that are proto-dependent to pressure players to throw themselves into the meatgrinder to get a proto build up and running

on weapons you get another stat (can be opti'd still)
on gear you get +1 mod slot

nah weapon would still run into recal since people usually spend it already

Honestly proto gear should have only been the augments, giving more potent stats removes some of the give and take when making a build since things like crit chance become much easier to hit the cap for, and builds may start to look much same-ier as you can start to work in other attributes

Those few pieces like habsburg god rolls are now effectively gated behind max expertise because you can't even rng farm them without upgrading an existing one

Prototype gear is gonna be really bad for the game and take 6 months to fix

its one of the things im most sad about with the game

explosive skill spam took over the endgame in y1 and they ended up gutting a lot of skills by changing enemy AI to just prio avoiding all the damage they can over anything else and it left the only damaging skills that can actually hit enemies as turret and drone

skills needed tuning but they kinda just straight up gutted them and left them like that ever since

not like they cant clear legendary but just feels like so much work to try and make a skill build work

I've always viewed as there are no good guys in this world. Some are just less "not terrible" like the imperium itself is fueled by conquest, religious zealotry and will put down anyone or anything that disagrees.
The chaos side however wants the whole universe burned and everything destroyed in the name of chaos.
It's a shitshow but that's what gives it itscharm and there are many good characters in the middle of all that.
