Ok so did some looking on the online store and it looks like generally the weapon is attached to the arm piece. But it also looks like weapons have specific "arm poses" if that makes sense like if the marine is holding the gun with one or 2 arms.

Doesn't seem to be too many heavy bolt rifle options though sadly cos the only one I could find was an ultramarine captain holding one.

Mildly special modelling glue for plastic, over drying period it basically fuses pieces together, so figs hold well over time

I think intercessor armour is what I really want to get into painting. Tactical is my fav class in SM2 so that jack of all trades armour the new primaris marines are using will probably be what I go with even if I might not be able to customise it as much. But you never know I'm sure there definitely are some options out there to try and add some raven guard flavour to it

Yeah I know the ravens are known for the signature jump pack and lightning claws. But there are definitely other units that make up the legion including stuff as crazy as dreadnoughts. Good ol fashion adaptable marines are just my personal preference really.

You take a gear piece from Proficiency 0 to 10, then you can put expertise levels on it

material donation is really expensive

yeah every so many total proficiency levels you go up an expertise level which lets you upgrade proficient gear another step

material donation is just way slower than donating dupe gear unless you cant reasonably farm dupes like with exotics (unless blueprint i guess)

you also gain proficiency xp per enemy killed to everything you have equipped which goes kinda slow unless you're wearing multiple pieces of a brandset

since each armor slot gains the xp separately so wearing more than one piece makes it go that much faster

the whole system is kind of halfbaked and im glad they are doing something about it next year tbh

it's way too slow and grindy for what it is

the xp for actually using gear goes so slow that material donation is heavily incentivized for a lot of the useless gear and the only people actually using the whole passive xp gain as intended are bug abusing

if you wanna speedrun expertise start with just focusing brandsets/weapon types in countdown/retaliations until all the general loot pool slop is maxed out and then enter named item hell

where you buy 20 of any named item a vendor has to donate when possible and otherwise just pray
