Like, im not opposed to endgame investment, but theres already so many menial and grindy systems for stat buffs that give endgame players an easy excuse to discriminate against a new character vs old character regardless of experience
The scope of the content we grind is about shrink drastically too, the game was already a countdown simulator, but at least there were other means, now its all escalation
I think itll take a while before we see that gap open, given its more rng focused, so old builds will probably outperform proto builds until then, but the second you get a single piece of well rolled proto gear, youre getting a huge bump
It almost reminds me of the chase for uniques during the launch era of Diablo 4

One attribute is guaranteed to be maxed at the new Prototype maximum value
The other attributes remain at their previous maximum values

as discussed before, prototype rarity gear can't be tinkered with or optimized, and if you upgrade your gear to prototype, you're only guaranteed 1 stat to increase to the new maximum. the other stats stay at previous tier maximum.
so realistically you have to
a) get normal drops of the gear you want
b) FULLY optimize and expertise said gear
c) upgrade that gear to prototype and pray RNG is kind enough to give you multiple attributes stats to prototype tier maximum
if at c) you only get 1 or 2 stats to increase, back to square one you go
well there's another option and that is farming random drops in escalation, but that will be random stats ranging from high end maximum to prototype maximum values

You gotta farm the item with the correct stats minus one, then fully optimize it, then fully expertise it (94 exotic components btw)
THEN you get a chance to see whether that was worth it by converting to prototype. Guaranteed 1 stat to new maximum, 3% chance for 2 stats to new maximum, 0.3% chancd for 3 stats to new maximum.
