As much as I like Marathon art style, I'm finding it to be a hard sell otherwise
I try to look at it from a roguelike approach like some people suggest, but it doesn't seem to work
In roguelike/lite, you get power upgrade and become stronger throughout the run, and you get stronger quickly. Enemies and obstacles are also balanced with that in mind.
But for an extraction shooter, everything is balanced in the assumption that you are already kitted out and strong the moment you load in

I feel like you have to treat it a bit like arc and go in on a few runs to scavenge items that sell so you can go in with a decent loadout and ammo, going in on a sponsored kit to fight AI or PvP is just an instant loss. I feel like free kits in this serve the purpose they're there for, which is to get loot and extract to come back in with better loot.
