Which Hosting Provider Do You Use for Your Laravel Applications?

Hey everyone!

I am using Cloudways for my Laravel/Inertia/Vue web app, but I have some limitations for managing the server.

I was thinking to move over to Digital Ocean Droplets for more Server control.

I'm curious to know which hosting providers you all prefer to use for your web applications or projects.
Could you please share your experiences and reasons for choosing your preferred hosting provider?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.

I'd think most people would prefer a VPS over some random shared hosting provider, with a VPS you just have much more freedom and you can just do whatever you want with it (no SSH limitations, freedom to install everything you need etc). But that also comes with a cost, it's generally a bit more expensive, you need time to setup properly etc. Apart from that there isn't really "a best hosting provider". I'd suggest to just try, try a few that Forge supports, so you can easily "switch" to that if management isn't your thing. With a lot of providers you pay what you use, like Digital Ocean, so if you tinker with a droplet for a week you only pay for a week, not the full month

I currently use Strato, and then the cheaper shared hosting plan. It works fine but it is a hassle sometimes with certain things like SSH (not all commands work)

So by using Forge with Digital Ocean Droplet, I can easily manage Digital Ocean Server and focus more on actually creating my Laravel/Vue app rather than using time on managing a server?

You also mentioned VPS. Is Digital Ocean Droplet a VPS? Seems like Forge supports Digital Ocean Droplet?

I’ve never used Cloudways but I’d make a list of what you actually need from a hosting provider, rather than just asking what other people use. Every one’s needs and projects’ needs are different, so what someone else use may not be suitable for your project or personal requirements.

But what is a “more professional setup” in your view? Do you have an actual requirement? Or are you just wanting to change hosts because of “FOMO” and thinking something else is going to be magically “better”?

I want to learn how to deploy an app and, manage a server and ability to control and manage the server rather than using a shared hosting provider. And I think using a VPS makes sense regarding to learn how a server works etc.

So by professional i mean something like Robert Boss wrote: "VPS over some random shared hosting provider"

Forge would take a lot of the server management out of your hands, like configuring nginx. These are definitely good skills to have if you'll want to focus more on DevOps/full stack. You'd have to make those choices yourself

I think you need to answer the question for yourself.

If you want to learn server management then get a server, and then learn how to set it up, deploy an app, etc.
