Hello everyone! I recently started adding challenges to my runs, and they’re really fun! I got my high score doing Badder Bosses and Hostile Champions (even got the Doom Slayer achievement) as a Deathmark Assassin. I am now trying out Faith is my Armor, and I’m getting my spine rearranged. Aside from ranged weapons, sneak attacks, and shields, what other forms of damage mitigation do I have access to?

FIMA (faith is my armor) is definitely one of the hardest challenges. You might want to do other challenges first.

  • favor ranged damage like wands and throwing weapons over melee. This can allow you to kill the enemy before they even get to you
  • Avoid skeleton explosions if possible. As rogue, you can just cloak when skeleton is low, then finish off with ranged damage. Augmenting armor to defense also helps if you can't avoid explosions
  • Upgrading throwing weapons are actually a viable strategy especially as rogue, but you need to know which ones are good to use. If you decide to do this, freerunner is good.
  • Favor weapons with longer range, like spear, whip, crossbow, glaive
  • Anything that gives you movement/create distance is good, such as flow glyph, haste ring, hourglass, chains, armband, etc.
  • FIMA with badder bosses makes bosses a lot tougher. Learn which consumables are good against particular bosses.

len is right, you should try out fima last

Thank you very much! I usually try to use ranged/extra reach weapons to avoid skeletons, but it did not occur to me to use upgrades on ranged weapons or an augment stone. It never really seemed like a good idea to upgrade ranged weapons since you need to dump three scrolls just for one of them to not break

or second to last at least

And yeah, it’s really hard. I got farther than usual with cleric, but just barely

charred cove
#

there are a advanced techniques based on vision that can be used to get free ranged attacks on enemies/create distance

Is there a log that I can read so I can learn these? I remember seeing some old targeting tips (aim behind and to the left or something)

charred cove
#

creating distance is extremely important for high chall runs
because fith fima+low healing you generally don't wanna melee

Man, that’s tough. It seems like the warrior and duelist get kinda tossed at higher chal levels

charred cove
#

monk is turbobroken tho

#

cloth armor monk -> meditate spam

lost mulch
#

Yeah, The Wonk is pretty strong. The first time I ran Monk, I got an ascension

charred cove
#

infinite healing infinite wand zaps infinite artifact recharging

charred cove
#

mostly meditate, but also dragon kick is strong and dash when needed

lost mulch
#

Yeah, Monk is on top fr. I still love my assassin tho. Blink and run is always fun

in fima you can at least chug away at pots during a pinch

#

fima is still a CRUEL one tho

ok agree to disagree

#

but yes both are hard for sure

#

pharma is one of my favorites though

keen quiver

Pharma isn't bad if barren land is turned off. In fact, I hear from other good players that barren land is harder than pharma. Both pharma and barren land on is very difficult though.

ruby coyote
#

barren land takes away a little hp compared to pharma

#

but takes away much needed utility

#

firebloom for barricades, earthroot for crabs, fadeleaf for bad spots etc

keen quiver
#

barren land allows you to collect dew

#

This is actually a substantial source of hp

ruby coyote

Dew heals you

ruby coyote

yeah but I dont remember dew being in barren land

#

other than eyes but thats very very lategame

Well my 2 cents would be that pharma is the first challenge you should turn on. Get rid of the bad habits and “bailout” mechanics.

But yeah agree with len, FIMA is difficult, but by the same logic, I’d say turning it on early is better as it teaches you the best ways to juke enemies.

So yeah these two challenges and into darkness make up “habits”. Runes, barren and on diet are “resource” challenges and the rest are enemy buffs. I’d say getting the habits out of the way makes the other challenges easier

sinful folio
#

yeah if you’re wanting a bit of a less softer introduction to chals, pharma is the way to go

ruby coyote
#

hell, once I turned off fima and turned on darkness, then switched from rogue to warrior, I won my first 6 chal

sudden urchin

Yeah into darkness in terms of difficulty is much less so than fima, your experience checks out 😛
