It's not that bad as the bomb ID exploit. It allowed you ignore an essential part of the game. (equiping unID stuff) Bombs were useless at that time and you could find explosive traps for free so there was really no cost to do it.
On the other hand, the cleansing pot makes you use up your potion for hunger instead of using it on a gas room to get gold. Here you are not ignoring a part of the game, but rather using it to your advantage
