I am making a design doc for a mod I am planning to build! It's a fork of Shattered to tweak some mechanics I don't like, add some I do like from mainly YAPD, and add some of my own. I'll make a few posts here asking for ideas on certain stuff, but feel free to add your own.

First brainstorming post: Augmentation stones are barely ever useful and an awful use of a transmutation scroll, so I'm planning to replace the shop augmentation stones with a functionally identical replacement item (name pending) and add a new runestone effect for the Transmutation scroll's runestone. A few ideas I had included making them work like the existing recycle spell (replacing that) or perhaps transferring 1 or 2 levels of upgrades between equipment to allow for better transition into lategame.

I think I like the transfer upgrade idea, since it fits with the original transmutation scroll's ability to turn one upgraded item into another while keeping the upgrades, and makes id-ing random equipment more appealing and also makes going to lategame or swapping to a new weapon more appealing, since I plan on making the weapon sandbox a little deeper than Shattered with some more drastic 'gimmick' or weird weapons

Is this cool, and suggestions for the upgrade method? (For context, I am porting the two-handing system from YAPD with some tweaks to allow for a swift-equip type ability for wands and throwables once every X turns, to hopefully allow for the more sandboxy cast of throwies and wands in Shattered to still be useful.)

Okay here is a stupid idea.

Any random equipment can have from 0 to 3 modifier stones.

Each modifier stone can be one of 6 colors, one of each corresponds to certain stat, like attack speed or enchantment power.

It can enhance the stat directly, only give bonus under certain condition, give negative stats...

The modifier stones can be reshuffled to grant different effects (but not changing their colors) with Runestone of Resharpening, that is made from Scroll of Transmutation

From a gameplay perspective

And I already want to add more varied weapons, so adding a system that makes the existing weapons slightly more interesting is a lot of work for kind of a bandaid fix

About the aug stones:

  1. First, attempt to add a third augmentation option, just to understand how the code works
  2. Add several more options
  3. Set the aug choosing to random. And actually about the terraria modifiers.. sounds nice, but, maybe, try adding normal, rare and epic modifiers with each one having its own rarity

If you want to make weaponry more, try adding a system of "build your weapon", giving more transmutations scrolls during the game and adding an ability to have several augmentations at one weapon at once, without randomising the aug on stone usage)
