#Unable to save my campaign?

I'm on windows, I'm using Maptools 1.17.1
I started some work on MapTools to set up a map for a campaign I'm running, and I went to save what I've got so far, but when I went to do so, It popped up with an error:
"could not save campaign.
java.nio.file.AccessDeniedException "

It looks like it is saving a file at that directory, but I don't want to risk clearing out what I've already done by opening it to find out whether it actually saved properly.

Save to an alternate location while you work out what’s going on.

#

Likely the chosen location is admin-only or something.

that works, although now I'm trying to figure out why the default save location in the folder maptools made when I installed it doesn't have the permissions to let maptools save to it...? It's weird but much less worrying. Thank you!

You shouldn’t save anything below the directory MT creates — it may be destroyed when you update MT! Always pick another location. I use a hierarchy under my desktop location and then make that location available on my network…

(But I don’t use Windows.)

#

It’s unfortunate that MT chose that as the default upon first use. 🙁 That’s a bug, IMO.

The newer .ZIP versions of MT will not delete your install directory. You just unzip it where you want the install and then delete the folder if you don't want it anymore. Other install methods are destructive to the installation directory.

Also, keep in mind that you can run multiple instances of MT at a time. You could have opened a second instance of MT (just run it again) and then tested whether or not you could open the new campaign file before closing your first instance.

That said, this is what should have been shown when installing to the Installation directory and it should not have allowed any save:
