Great name
I know a guy who without fail complains about each and every reused gun, pvp imbalance, and sandbox problem every single season
A note on the dedicated servers thing
They cant just frickin swap in dedicsted servers. D2 was built from the ground up to be p2p, they cant un do that.
Marathon will ha e dedicated servers, because its being built for that.
One of my biggest problems is that so much of the game feels samey, stand in Circle, shoot guy, pick up ball, move heavy thing, etc. if you want unique mechanics for what you’re doing you have to do a raid or dungeon
like people will complain about reusing things like the menagerie guns(despite also wanting menagerie back for ages) while completely ignoring that every single faction or foundry weapon reuses the same half dozen models
D2 will never have dedicated servers for the same reason they cant just add more perks onto guns. The systems werent built for it and would require a full rebuild to do that.
That’s fair, but doesn’t it feel a little bit like they’re saying “hey guys! You know how destiny servers are not always very stable? Well this new game will have specific measures taken so that’s it’s stable but not your current game”
if you assume that every difference between marathon and d2 is an intentional decision by bungie yes
Kinda feels like they’re basically abandoning it for marathon
you know, only a 6 year difference in games in very different genres
Even before the announcement
Imo, a gun is a gun, if it has new and cool perk combos that make it fun and creative, than I’ll chase it, but the creativity of new perks seems to be lacking in a way, or that they’re running out of ideas, as most weapon perks now are just an old perk but slightly different
Thats just a miss-take. Its "we know this issue exists on d2 amd cant be changed, so we will learn from it and make sure its not an issue in next game"
you know how that works right?
- a game takes time to be developed
- many years before release
- a company has a finite amount of resources to devote to given tasks
- going from one task to two means dividing resources previously only focussed on a single task
How they gonna abandon their golden goose for a game that doesn’t have a guaranteed success…………………….
- so developing a new game alongside supporting a live service will inevitably take resources away from the live service game
Taking a big gamble
yeah
they are not abandoning destiny
if they were they would have stopped content updates the moment development for Marathon began
Idk man, with the amount of things just not working as intended it seems like it could be fixed if they spent time to fix it, but, I know next to nothing about game development, so maybe destiny is so far down the pipeline that there just is no going back and we’re just stuck with some of the issues we have, so I definitely understand what you mean, but I feel like something could be done ya know?
Its also worth nothing that game devs teams arent static.
If you dont have work on one game, you dont sit idle with that project's label on you. You just work on other stuff.
Like, the assets for d2 are gonna be latgely made out allready, so they modelers are most definitely working on marathon.
D2 has levels rn, marathon has none. So their talent is going to work on marathon.
D2 musiv and sound team is likely fully done for the rest of the year and working fully on maratthon assets.

Glad they didn’t, I want both games to exist and receive support and content
seems like you ain't been paying attention to twabs for the past 2 years
They’ve addressed many of these issues and have taken a very proactive approach to anticheat
Feel is touchy yeah.
Id say that, they are defintely working and aware of the main issues. But wether or not it gets pushed to live fast or they think they can hold it out to work on it when they have more time.
Theyre currently working on final shape's campaign by their own mention, so theyre probably putting off current issues to make final shape not be like lightfall.

people ignoring every change bungie as made just because it ain't exactly how they want it to be right this second
Also, cheaters are a constant war.
Reason number 1# why indie shooters have died out. Hate it.
They must keep the pressure on, needs to be a proactive effort. Not just one anticheat system, multiple. Investment, a dedicated team.
I would certainly hope that is the case as I so badly want final shape to be good, I’m just not getting that rush of loot or chasing a god roll or doing a raid as I once was, seems more and more like a checklist approach, which could be that I’ve just played the game so much and for so long
Glad Destiny has this now.
I don’t run into cheaters very much at all, not like I did two years ago. I play Crucible daily.
Seems like YOU ain’t played the game cuz it feels garbage rn
Burnout does do that.
Theres a reason I only have 2.5k hours even though ive been playing since 2018. I play other stuff, cycle things around.
It feels like a chore to play
trials ridden with cheaters
battleye, cease and desist to perfectaim
pvp meta dogshit
changes every season to balance weapons and shake up the meta
poor balancing changes
subjective and given your outlook probably not worth anything
stale seasonal model
we literally got changes this season to address this issue
abandoning core playlists
ignoring every playlist update since Witch Queen
massive hiking of monetization
okay that's fair I don't disagree there
D2 players seemingly never play other stuff, get addicted to it.
Gotta go out and expand your horizons with other stuff.
The super cool down change made it so one and done supers are basically the only ones uses
Plus crucible has gotten ONE new map in years
And gambit?
Hasn’t had a change in however long
okay so it's just abandoning the parts you want
may as well shove it up his ass cause that's the only way he's gonna take it
But uh, they’ve been making improvements to PVP balancing constantly, every season. I don’t know how this negativity festers so much when no other game gets this much ongoing support.
I do my best to cycle games, deep rock, terraria, Minecraft, ultrakill etc. like destiny is the only looter shooter I play and mostly everything else is way different. But, something just feels off, like the spark isn’t there anymore, like how you can feel the end of a relationship in your gut, something’s just, different
I’m a warlock and I use a glaive and I’ll shove it up any titans ass all day long.
Based
Tbh, you probably shouldnt play d2 then. If its not fun, just dont play it. If it still interests you, watch it on YT or do what Sp4des does and just chill in this server while not playing for 3 months.
I usually take a 3 week break from d2 at some point each season and hyperfixate on other shit
like rn I'm doing a veteran run of mw3
Yeah I’ve been back on Minecraft and doing my first run of calamity (me and a bud are playing on death mode it’s going pretty well)
What’s that?
modern warfare 3
Ive been building for a fantasy rpg server lately. Built one of the first major cities for my nation lol.
Also drg & metal hellsinger hit hard
I play Rust when I need a break from Destiny 2 but the gunplay is way worse and I always come back to Destiny 2 after a while.
I’m not that brain dead, what’s a veteran run ya goober
campaign on veteran difficulty
been steadily doing that for most of the cod games I have
Rust gun play
Its... existing.
and in the process finding out which ones are the most dick pounding
Hell yeah, that’s the shit
I’m starting a dnd campaign with my friends here pretty soon and I’ll be dming
Ah, I assume just the hardest difficulty is what that is
yes
Nice
a few select games have even harder ones
but for the most part it's
- recruit
- regular
- hardened
- veteran
are you in US time zones and do you want another player because I havent been able to play for a while and the withdrawl is eating me.
Unfortunately it will be an in person campaign
So unless you also live in the great wheat fields of Kansas you out of luck
Damn, ive been there, but "we're not in kansas anymore..."
Someome move to Texas and start running ttrpg games for me
Wow I’ve never heard that one before
Lol. Least its not unending cowboy jokes
That’s fair
But, if you ever want to nerd out about dnd or rpg stuff my dms are always open, as I’m in an rp server right now that was based off a dnd campaign I was in prior (it’s a big long thing and is convoluted as hell) and would love to nerd out about it to anyone who would listen
I live in Texas, unfortunately I'm not a dm and am barely confident enough to rp my character during online sessions
never had an in person dnd session
It slaps. Digital has its perks, but like, being able to hand players props or use dioramas is amazing.
I DM and play, but im just dont run long games, or custom ones at least. My brain gets too latched i to details and it becomes an incredible amount of work and ainxiety. Moduels and one shots are my favored choice.
Facial expressions and hand motions is most of how I communicate, like Russianbadger videos are so funny because of the character animations and stuff
Honestly yeah, that too
Gesticulations are handy
Being able to comically act out a death with da homies is peak gaming.
I’m also not great at describing hand motions, so I’m stoked to be able to finally show others what I mean
In person D&D/any ttrpg vs. Online is like a Badger video vs. A normal gaming video.
In person is way better for conveying emotions and feelings, online is better for presenting information.
Though, id argue inperson also lets you use more senses to convey info.
Like, changing room lights mid scene, feeling vibrations through the table as a fist slams on it, etc.
Hits harder narratively.
Online tools make chracter sheets and the math a bit faster
I always use a sheet app for that reason.
dawgs I can babble about this forever lol
You could do both
Everyone got a phone or laptop pulled up to review stuff
Or let the wizard keep their book of spells
Thats basically how I do games.
Spell book and character on phone, battle map on table
Mainly because the default character sheets have a terrible layout
Yeah it isn’t the best
From a UI/UX standpoint they are simply bad.
Shows a TON of information that isnt needed taling upots of page size, the important stuff takes up the least, layout has tons of fluff that obscures details and writing.
I never use it for that reason lol
my dm likes to play music in the vc for certain important encounters and he's generally just very good at storytelling
Yeah. Music is great in person too easier to put it in the background and not take up discord bandwidth. Does require a decent speaker tho.
Man I just want to play D&D now
You all have cursed me
Ima just look at my mass of characters ill never play.
Whats your character?
which one, I've played 2 in the current campaign?
first or second?
it is also my first campaign, but we've been going for like 2 years irl(and in story thinking about it now) so I've gained quite a bit of knowledge
Which ever really :P
Pick your favorite lol
I prefer my second one then
She's a wild magic sorcerer(why does word that look wrong?), very traumatic childhood, lost both parents and took it hard, ran off into the woods and built an identity around being self sufficient and a self serving "might makes right" survival of the fittest mentality
started her first appearance as neutral evil, theonly reason I didn't list chaotic evil is because she doesn't explicitly seek to cause harm, she just gives no shits if she does or to whom she does it
gradually learned to open up to the party and see them as a found family, and recently commited her first act of heroism
Its the double erer
That sounds like a banger character.
I personally really enjoy spell casters. Played a necromancer druid for 2 years, have a bunch of neat builds I want to try at some point.
it's been real fun playing out her character arc
now if only our paladin(and by extention the player) could look past her beginnings and stop treating her like a self serving criminal after several months together
another fun thing about her though is her build
I've built her up to be a sort of infiltrator and master of espionage
things like misty step, clairvoyance, detect thoughts(and telepathic feat), message
all make her very sneaky and quite fun outside combat
the only thing that holds her back in a stealth scenario is her 0 dex mod, but I have a cloak that gives me advantage on stealth checks which helps a little
also one time I got the chance to interrogate someone and I was gonna play with my food a bit but the dude just spilled because aparently he'd been told there's no use hiding things from me
and previously in the campaign, a while back, we had a cleric which threatened to burn a dude's skin off
that was pretty funny
Learn the silenece spell. Amazing for stealth, and lets you negate a TON of spells since all but like... 30 spells on the game require vocal componets
Funny D&D thing ive found is that people get super into interrigations for some reason. People get creative with it.
Myself included lol
I don't think I can learn that
I've proposed tossing a guy into a bag of holding but the paladin said no
Sorcerer, right?
ye
Ah yeah. Forgot its not on the base spell list.
Bards, clerics, and rangers get it baseline
Some other classes can get it via subclass stuff
I'm hoping I can change subclasses
our dm said he will allow us to make some changes during a time skip, including a subclass change for those who want it
I dunno when that's gonne be though, but I want it
this character was my first time getting into spellcasting and also my first time actually making my own character sheet so I was very new to things
and now I see a lot of changes I would have made to better fufill the image I had in mind for her
Thats totally fair

My necro druid went from a moon druid multiclass to a spores druid multiclass to better fit the themeing
ye
Love to see it
always
shit I ain't done any dnd stuff in a while
one of our players is away for the summer so we on hold so to speak
My last campaign ended a while ago and Ive just been in limbo and withdrawl
Or is it lol
It is
🫂
In lue of Wizard with a Gun coming out soon, struck with inspiration I have made a cowboy spell slinger.
