#signal speculation
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Reminder, this video was posted by Joar in early 2018 some time after he stopped posting Animalmyn gifs. Animalmyn was cancelled in favor of the signal project.
There are also greek statue heads everywhere. 👁️
I still believe this to be an early prototype for the signal game.
If this is true, then I believe the 2D creatures are placeholders.
It seems to be from the perspective of some kind of camera drone examining things from above.
no way, it's the cell stage from spore
it's possible that might not be a far off comparison
Videocult's cancelled Animalmyn game was supposed to be a sort of evolution simulator, and was cancelled in favor of the signal game. (but is being picked up by another developer)
If this game carries over certain elements from Animalmyn, it's genuinely possible it could go a similar route as a sort of twisted evolution-sim.
videocult's wacky critters but in a spore-like game...
ok so
animalmyn
spoiler tagged since animalmyn IS being remade, but this is directly from james himself:
As a spoiler-free summary, Animalmyn was going to be an evolution simulator in a post-singularity far future where humanity had their consciousness uploaded to a digital mall. The forms of your feral emoji creatures got more and more advanced as you progressed, and you could alter how they looked and stuff. You earned payment/energy from various tasks for the system which allowed you to keep progressing and evolving, while simultaneously the environment gradually started to break down around you and get more hostile, decrepit, distorted and incomprehensible, and the soundtrack was meant to reflect that.
The scale of the game was to get very immense the further you went.
Eventually the game was cancelled because the Signal project was deemed more interesting and ambitious, which, frankly, considering what's been said about Animalmyn? That sounds INSANE.
i can't imagine the level of scale in the signal game if we're going in that direction
so far one of the constantly implied things we know of is something to do with the concept of time reversal
(though i guess the fact that someone else has picked up animalym means they wont ever revisit the concept which is a bit of a shame
)

i really like videocult's unique narrative style, and its definitely a big draw factor for me for any of their new projects
no way
canon
i hope, however signal turns out, it also has a sprawling and larger than life worldbuilding
im definitely intrigued to see the concepts they bring forwards
james and joar seem very interested in exploring post-apocalyptic settings and how it can reflect on whatever used to live in them
it's definitely going to have some pretty tight focus on the worldbuilding considering the vague teasers we have are focused on the environmental storytelling and atmosphere

(a little tangential, but i think its endearing when media creators obviously have a topic that piques their interest heavily and they continue to explore it in new ways with each of theirs works)
some kind of apocalypse or dystopian future with oceans full of purple fluid and an interesting focus on celestial bodies
ye
from software tends to do that a lot
i was mainly thinking about paru itagaki (beastars mangaka) when i mentioned that tbh
since she seems quite intrigued by the human condition and sexuality and expressions of both
personally it just reminds me of people who repeatedly talk about pollution and then use the topic to sell unneccesary products which 'protect' against it
from software games tend to critique fascism in various different ways
yos
very apparent with how many of their characters have fallen from grace and are but a shadow of their former glory
like how bloodborne has a lot of cosmic horror but then it turns out that most of the evil was caused by humanity and the aliens were either neutral or outright benevolent
they abused the power given to them to try and transcend their form
(ancients rain world????)

though most of the games have a common theme of some great lord trying to force the world into a stage of eternal idealized stagnation
y'know, fascism
yep
its really fascinating how games as a medium can be used to explore these topics given the interactive nature of it
with rain world, animalmyn, and seemingly at least in visuals with the signal game, there's a constant reoccurring theme of civilization abandoning the state of their world in order to seek some form of transcendence that suits themselves, even if at the expense of others
there's this game that came out in march
'will you snail'
talks about some of the interesting problems with rogue ai
and how incredibly difficult it would be to control
with problems like people intentionally manipulating said ai to get past restrictions, or the fact they would have different ethics than us
honestly the part im waiting for with signal is seeing how whatever dominant race (if any) fucked up this setting
ancients finetuned everything to their desires and then discarded them, so many signal's setting will be afflicted by excessive pollution...?
given the recurring motifs of unnatural looking water and broken down mechanical structures
I speculate that humanity had transcended to a more "cosmic" sort of form and that the various greek statues represent their transcendence. Hence why it's so focused on the cosmos.
the water as well is very reminiscent of iridescence in oil spills
ooh the more spiritual interpretation is interesting too
dont think i heard of that one
not necessarily spiritual
only real issues with the game is uh
they could have achieved that god-like form through technology
its plot is kinda completely disconnected from the actual gameplay
very true too
much like how the ancients were trying to find a proper solution w/ the iterators
looks more like a spud to me
if that moon was part of some statue
then whoever built these must really be godlike in comparison
yeah
yeah fr
wondering why it's so irregularly shaped though
an actual moon would naturally condense into a sphere under its own gravity
there's also the sun which is unnatural
well tbf given how rain world handles things its not possible to say for certain whether signal's universe also obeys our laws of physics too
mm fair point
could also just be a really durable material that doesn't condense as easily
though it seems slightly more likely to be a setting that is like our universe given the usage of symbols that are present in our human culture
and ofc the statues
yea
greek statues and the symbol of mercury
you know, it's interesting there's a focus on the moon because mercury in alchemy is also called "quicksilver" (and uses the same symbol of course)
wasn't mercury roman
whereas the moon has its own symbol, and is represented as silver
yes
yes
i wonder if any of the other planetary symbols will be used as recurring motifs in any future signals
m
also that one video that seems to be some early prototype of the signal game has greek statue heads, and a "salt" meter
salt
i wonder how many signals we have left actually
salt was important in alchemy as it was used as core symbolism for physical matter
reminds me of the salt order
(the video)
it's possible the signal game may borrow the "evolution sim" aspects of animalmyn
once the signal project's official name is announced i am planning to request a wiki for it on miraheze in preparation
do you think "Mercurial Retrograde" would be a good title for the game?
it's a bit of a mouthful but it has a nice ring to it imo
doesn't really convey much
i just got it from one of the tweets on the videocult account lol
(its not as much as a mouthful as "year 2 k: a post modern role playing game" anyway
)
still think this could imply signal news soon?
or at least more vague hints...
deepak chopra random tweet generator
that RW went on sale because its being revealed soon perhaps
nature fears definitive action

is it soon yet?

man its been a while
then again that was around the point they seem to have started making downpour plans, so i guess focus shifted for a bit
yeah
i really do wish the signal game had some sort of devlogs, idk why they aren't doing that
i guess to keep things cryptic
it's usually larger studios that do this kind of teasing for projects
true
like when fromsoft first teased elden ring back in 2019 and nobody knew what kind of game it would be
devlogs are cool
though tbh i feel like they also would have not done a devlog for rw if it hadnt just started off as a prototype joar posted on the forums
i didnt quite get to the kickstarter period of the rw devlog thread but i get the feeling that some more info was withheld after that point
kinda reminds me of how the dev of wys kept making devlogs even when he was doing the ending of the game and people complained about spoilers
and then when he stopped making devlogs to avoid spoilers people complained about the lack of devlogs
lol
RW's devlogs had pretty much no spoilers
even though most of the content was just like overhauling graphics and or music
or making the antagonist actually look decent

real
Signal is the free update
free wifi signal
mcdonal wifi
signal is a social experiment made by the devs to see how deranged the RW fanbase can get when exposed to random lore
my theories aren't deranged enough tbh
i should become significantly less decipherable
The land of Signal is the land of the Moon God
and hands are lifted high from the earth in prayer
you are correct
The 2020 darthzz revival we were all waiting for
i think we will not get new signal stuff until after all the downpour announcements
aside from maybe the possible "sub-teasers" on joar's account
Ye that's likely
Relatively soon
signal?

canal bird appreciation hours
Is this the next slugcat?
perhanps
Downpour final boss leak
just sits there being sad because his friend bullied him
there he goes
hmm i do wonder though
what if those seagulls in signal 001 aren't seagulls at all, but rather, these?
the seagulls did look pretty far away
if they were any closer they'd be pretty large
ok yeah they totally are
the more i look at them in the video, the more it seems they even have the same fancy tail as the canal bird
oh wow
you can see some in the top right in the video landing in the background behind the trees, and they are definitely a lot larger than seagulls, they look to be just about the size of the canal bird
at 2:15 one bird collides with another bird somewhere in the middle in the background and causes the other to fall
you can also see some of them seemingly scrounging around behind the purple bushes
their wingspan is so large
just like the canal bird in flight
it'd be nice if they got a little closer
at one point in the video, one of them in the distance can be seen flying straight towards the foreground before the video suddenly glitches out
what a tease
what if the canal birds are the ones making the seagull noises in RW_16 - The Coast / Shoreline?
creature noises

i wonder if this was either for animalmyn or signal
ah, probably animalmyn, this post was before his final animalmyn gif, with the t-shirt
it feels surreal that we know so much about animalmyn now
Oh this is interesting
Well, Ultrakill coins kinda work like that
And it means they miss the crosshair
there was combat planned for animalmyn
the first 2 stages seemingly didn't have much of that
in floor 3 you'd start engaging in what james described as "strange zombie melee"
i assume in floors afterward you'd have more projectile-based combat before you'd inevitably achieve godhood
strange zombie melee just makes me think of exanima combat but as the animalmyn creatures
exanima, too, is a 3D procedurally animated game
i imagine the first "upright" stage of evolution in the game would have been somewhat like that
I want this bird, but as a kite
make him fly

fun fact: before any of the signal teasers, james played signal music at the actual reality adultswim party
very good vibes debuting new songs at @adultswimgames #ActualRealityParty 🌴🌴
this is signal 002's music
wait this is archived?
th
it does that automatically after a day
oh
just realized how huge those birds are
maybe... perhaps...
seriously though look how big the closest ones are
either it's right above the tractor's arm and it's almost the size of a person, or it's a bit further away and therefore slightly bigger
although the canal bird does kinda look like it has a fancy tail, though it's hard to say
could be looking too deep, but then again, that's the entire point here
there's no fun without overanalyzing
but yeah on closer inspection, these ones are probably not related, even the closer ones look very different in form, even if they're pretty gigantic
canal bird has skinny, long arms and these ones just have wide normal bird wings
signal 001 birds are similarly lanky in proportions despite how far away they are, so they're a more viable contender
keep is probably just a random joar art
lanky bird
Tree #4, with @Janaka_Lemon
new joarpost
signal world before the purple goo...
bug world :)
he did a great job
the red liquid saga continues
i like the big pede
the sprout makes me think of some of the growths in the canal bird video and the third tree video
has the same pinkish color
i like the contrast between the natural world and the sprout in between it, gives a sort of "impending doom" kind of vibe
the silky texture over the sprout is insane
also the reflection of the sprout looks completely different for some reason? more bulby
I have some older Joar art as my phone bg
very interesting detail
SLOGGERS

i like the patterns on the millipede
These must take so much effort
i can't stop looking at the strands in the back
gives it the impression it's infested, yet still growing
may tie into the red plants in the other videos and how they came to be like that
the trunks of the trees in the previous video looked completely infested with something
what is the origin of this image
it's from a video joar posted
trying to find it rn
this has to be my fav joart caption
anyway right here it is

plants and insects
I've spent my whole day walking and looking at plants and insects and now I come here and find some more
I do wonder why the signal teasers slowed down so much after october 2020, honestly. In 2020 we had 5 signals in the latter half of the year, but in 2021 we only had one (signal 6) and so far this year, we've had nothing beyond the possibility of the 3D Joar gifs being some kind of "sub-teasers".
Whomst knowS
sisyphus
but yeah I wonder what they're up to behind the scenes
maybe we'll have a signal explosion soon after downpour's release
hope so

Signal 7 release date when?
Hot take of the day - Analog sticks are bad input devices. 4 buttons is better because then the directions don't slide into each other but are discrete, and a mouse is just better in every way. Analog sticks lack accuracy both in direction and magnitude of the input.
Game design musing - shouldn't you be able to simulate a liiiittle bit of g-forces/acceleration just by tilting the camera? Your player presumably sits under 1g of acceleration downwards and presumably doesn't have their monitor upside down
Isn't vaporwave a couple of years now? Might be about time for vaporwave retro nostalgia? #chillingIn2016 #2016sunsets
some various tweets from around the estimated time signal game was beginning its development
there's a couple more, but it's interesting seeing joar subtly share his progress and ask gamedev questions while simultanously avoiding giving any information about what specifically he was working on
so, signal game did seem to kind of have a devlog, in a way
all valuable info, thank you darthzz
giving it a pin since its a nice little batch of info
epic
i still think its funny how much of 2018-2019 joar twitter is full of hatred for the cyberpunk genre
you'd honestly never expect a fan of vaporwave to dislike cyberpunk stuff so much, usually they tend to go pretty closely hand in hand
Joar based!!
Kind of based?
Control stick is better for movement in some games
yeah
i prefer the smoothness of how it feels in games like rain world, or playdead games
but in games where aiming or active cursor movement is heavily involved, i would rather KB+M
Although it's weird that he says this while RW doesn't natively allow for dpad movement
which is pretty standard for 2d platformers
i don't think he was even referring to a dpad considering he mentions mouse movement as well
it's interesting how he posts such a thing and some similar things after debating about g-force acceleration from camera tilting
which really
really
Storble
made me think of this moment
A lil turn
Yeah, for games like Isaac it feels much more tactile
But for 3d, 360 degree games it's less open
Mouse/controller work better
I've seen people play doom eternal with a controller and it's misery to watch
i've seen someone play noita with a controller
theoretically speaking, assuming the player character is indeed something similar to canal bird, i wonder if first person perspective would work well with flying controls on a very likely procedurally animated/physics based character
it'd probably be vomit inducing
I could see a 3rd person based camera being used
if it is indeed the bird, a 3rd person camera would probably be used
similarly to animalmyn
Its almost like he should add an asterisk with like "see image 1" at the end of his sentence
like how the camera follows this guy
in this case i'd have to say i'd probably prefer a controller for this
unless it has exanima-esque mouse dragging movement
(which probably wouldn't work with flight lol)
Hey darthzz, when is joar Jonna join ZA/UM
huh whuh
why here tho
do you think they're doing a collab with videocult lol
As long as I can use it like the rw level editor i'm fine
greebles
Idk it was neat
Not particularly no
i think it could likely be a part of some random structure in signal game, and that james is working on level design again for this game but in 3D
still have no clue what this is what the fuck
all that comes to mind is really scuffed terrain
really melty urchin
reminder the sky rays are actually FUCKIN HUGE
they're a good distance from the spire and yet they're just massive
i don't even think they're creatures, they might be the previous civilization flying above the altered world below
in ships
mantis ships
I have this sort of hypothesis-theory thing I'm still forming that this takes place on "earth" after humans have reached essentially god-like potential, no longer present on the surface of this world, which they have long since altered drastically. We probably play as something sorta like the canal bird, acting as a sort of parallel to the animalmyn creatures, as reduced humans forced to work for a corrupt system that still exists. They watch us squabble around from above. The world is greatly polluted, but simultaneously altered to look more pleasing and idealized, hence why it's all purple, blue and red. The humans or whatever this civilization is/has become have reached the technological capabilities of altering the flow of time.
The creatures of this game will probably be mostly a mixture of things, like the canal bird having strangely human-like aspects, or the pink fish-moth creature in the second tree video. Mostly mutated lifeforms, either due to the environment, due to direct genetic modification, or both.
The civilization in this stage would be somewhat comparable to the Qu from All Tomorrows, though maybe less overwhelmingly sadistic?
The moon is either part of some great statue made to represent themselves, possibly carved into the actual moon itself, some kind of mothership, or serves some other kind of purpose entirely.
yeah that's what i was thinking
They would either monitor the "old" earth or they are looking for something in specific
or maybe theyre just some form of asshole government
If we were to consider these pieces of art part of signal as well, then you could imagine that there are still humans living on the surface, but were abandoned and left in slums by their corporate overlords.
I have the second paiting as my wallpaper
its a good painting
yeah
Poor humans making their money out of digging in the literal trash
I feel like most of the game world takes place within the signal 003 bio-dome thing.
There are little windows/holes in the mountain? Its probably carved out
it's a keep
Cant tell if the rock is naturally red and blue
True, I forgot the name of the painting
Do you think the blue is rock or some kind of material
like metal
idk!
I think having weird rock amalgmations would fit lol
the wheels might straight up be some kind of space debris
there's tons of them though and they could just as easily be part of some massive fallen tower
Fallen space station, lol
but yeah, bottom line
this is definitely a "horrors of capitalism" type of game lol
animalmyn took place in a simulation, but given the decrepit nature of the environments in the signals, i'm leaning heavily on the idea that it is a physical environment, just heavily altered
Forgot the simulation part of animalmyn
yeah it's a digital mall you were uploaded to
yeah I forgot that part
Im going to be born as an emoji in the physical world and nobody will sto p me
i feel like the other bird creatures would be rather competitive like the animalmyn were, if the video is anything to go by, since you do see a live one flying away from where the other one fell
in signal 001 you can see similarly lanky bird creatures in the background occasionally ramming into eachother
oh wow, you can see trees swaying in the distance of signal 006
I wonder how wrong the plants go, lol
presumably, we finally have plant physics, if the swaying trees in some of these videos are anything to go by

1 step at a time
i have a feeling this is a game where we'll crash into things a lot, so it'd make sense
if we are to fly? yeah
imagine if there was an added layer of chaos and you could break them
something like outer wilds spaceship but instead of the vast emptiness of space with some planets
its flying around an amalgmation of a completely corrupt, destroyed planet
with some fucked up and evil things we are yet to see
i also considered the possibility that, despite the fact it seems heavily suggested to be a flying game, it's possible it takes the "evolution" concept of animalmyn and that we quite possibly start the game in the water
we could
i think being able to fly but retain the ability to go underwater would be good
you can put some horrid things in the ocean

that'd be wonderful
in fact
in fact
you can see something large moving underwater in signal 002 a couple times
is there some aquatic-like signal vid
damn predicted lol
it has glowing boosters of some kind
i havent watched any of the signals
im quite literally just talking out my ass about this amalgmation (in the best sense)
i will when i have time
they are short

NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a playlist
yeah
i shall watch
on their channel
we used to be able to view that there's an unlisted video through these
so if we're getting a signal 007 any time soon, we'll be able to see that there is one through the playlist having an extra video
james and joar want us to see these so baddd
signal 001 and there is clearly a very human statue, burried lol
ye
good start
james and joar love random sticking statues out of the water
yea its not blueish and wouldnt be so small in the distance
+doesnt leave a trail?
sometimes they just disappear, and if you look closely in the background, they occasionally explore the ground behind the bushes, and you can see they're pretty large, about as large as the canal bird if these palm trees are to scale
very much matches with just being birds
these are different from the signal 003 sky rays though
the sky rays are definitely a lot larger
mhm
also worth noting that not all signal plants are blue and purple, you can see some kind of red rainforest in the background
Tree #3, with @Janaka_Lemon
very similarly to this
is purple water a shared trait between all of them
yeah
inch resting
also in the bottom left of that video
there's something being poured out of some pipe in the ground
the water leaves purple residue on the buildings in 002
i can't tell if those are creatures emerging or purple water, but it's purple nonetheless
yeah
signal 002 might be the legs of some bridge
also signal 005 has similarly "sawn-off" trees
or maybe its all chemtrails
there's a lot of distortions and ray beams too
and an artificial sun
by artificial sun, i mean you see this when the spire passes over it
bhuh
95% likely it's part of the biodome
"Bird" ~ Audio by @BRIGHTPRIMATE
canal bird video has similarly red plants and growths everywhere
these ones are covered in red leaves and extend to a bright pink-ish color with a bit of webbing sticking off of them
which leads me to THIS
https://vxtwitter.com/joar_lj/status/1553773804094193666?s=20&t=6TmF5j3AHgj1xECMKtQlmQ
Tree #4, with @Janaka_Lemon
this plant is a very similar color, and has similar webbings sticking off of it, but unlike all other videos, is contrasted with a very natural and familiar environment, possibly representing the time period from when it all started
bird video also has similar buildings to the feed drop drawing
ye
we are mining the ocean!!!
i think itd be funny if the water wasnt water at all and some kind of weird quicksand with somehow even more fluid properties
just a dumb thought
odd!
this would mean nothing can live underwater at the same time
it's definitely some kind of fluid or sludge
yeah
you'd need a creature to be ablet to filter out the "sand" to get the actual air
and it probably would need to be rather strong?
depends on depth, possibly
there's some strange symbols on these little cubes scattered around
right one looks something like an L
the canal bird video
there's a lot of details in that one
i can't even tell if there's anything on the large cube because of the intense reflection and fresnel
yeah that is too bright
who lost they cube
slightly beat up cube owner
seriously though it looks like the tiny ones have
engraved over them
zoomed out
overanalysis is fun
i cant make these white shapes out at all, lol
joar did a good job at making things so detailed and unique visually that you can't help but to stare at everything
signal fans on their way to examine crunched up cement bricks
signal fans losing their heads (((it's a reference to the canal bird)))
if you want a fun detail, there's some glowing bits at the edges of the front of the fish-moth's wings
a sort of magenta glow
would this mean some of the "water" could stick to creatures
something like it stuck to the buildings
maybe this creature is able to dive in
into the grape kool aid sea
tainted by the sea with time
does kinda look like a manta ray
if the sea accepts any creatures at all it probably would be able to go down into it
if we are the birds?
presumably
Neutral or their population could indicate something
warning us/telling us "come here"
doesnt look like they can hunt?
like actual big creatures
it can probably eat something small and vegetation
very catfishlike
doesnt look like it has a big mouth
Probably not a good idea to crash into them if we are to fly, lol
it's interesting to imagine how it would be to control something like that bird
probably like the animalmyn on land with the clumsy crawling, and a bit more smoothly in the air, but it'd probably have some mechanics for keeping balance
Yea i wonder how you balance yourself in the air
like what is our center of balance, lol
would be funny to fly vertically
vulture sim but scaled down and no head n neck
i already feel like remaking this
just some random idea i had of some creature swimming through the fluid
i wanna draw another signal-inspired thingy but with flying creatures actually included in it
i wonder how would something would look if it were to live in the water(?)
i want it to be horrible
akin to deep ocean fish
how would it look submerged under there
probably very hazy
canal bird crashes into whatever this thing is
Probably a lot of deep, purple nothing with violent currents
i wonder if anything would be in shallow zones
under the water i mean
Im assuming the purple water is very deep when you fly out into the "ocean"
or maybe it doesnt and there is a lot of ruins
so there would be things, floating about in the ocean
with small creatures
it would be a physical void
its nothing but outside its something and it contains something
dont let it be a simulation again
i wonder if it will have an ending as wacky as in rain game
become a void worm
i'm actually hoping that the setting turns out pretty morbid, but that we end up getting a relatively positive kind of ending
and not just "this world is doomed forever and so are you, enjoy being reduced to a sentient meat cube"
after everything is done and you flied everywhere to important places you end up in some inbetween state of being unlocked by some particular pseudo tasks
and you get to fly away into the light
i mean that can be cool too if presented well but still, it'd be nice if our abominations get a rather pleasant or bittersweet ending
rain world but actually you find your family (physically)
signal game but you find an uncorrupted spot
untouched by CAPITALISM
beat up capitalism
you unlock the anti capitalism ray 3/4 into your journey
and blast away all the ray ships
after you destroy the ultimate evil the planet is saved and the "poor" humans are free of their capitalistic binds
and new un-capitalized life begins from all the trash
the end
the trash becomes sentient
who up talkin to they sink
would be fun to find some form of psuedo-humans
evolved into something else
found in some desolate portions of the planet
worm man easter egg
you can just perch somewhere and watch
slushy man

i really want to get into procedural animation to make some kind of wacky game with creatures like this one day

"fuck this worm man in particular" starts a drought
alexa play all the available signal tunes
alexa, leak signal
That is an amazing drawing darthzz
i hope they fix that loading bar some time soon
i wonder why they're so hesitant to say anything about the game even now, i hope it's not because of serious development issues
i think theyre taking their time and maybe going hard (wishful thinking)
joar used to be pretty open about game progress
will never stop posting this image
To those interested in Videocult's Signal project, especially from an aesthetic standpoint, I do also recommend taking a look at Playdead's also unnamed mysterious 3D project. The creators of INSIDE and LIMBO. They post aesthetic teasers in a similer vein, although we do know a bit more about this game than Videocult's game.
Looks neat
I think you already mentioned this

BCCCCa Dljbedpbk
yea you can chat here pretty much whenever you want
live canal bird reaction
I wonder if these birds have heads sometimes
it looks like they can extend and retract their heads, given the shape there
turtlebirds
Thinking about it, things in RW and signal could have been directly inspired by Wayne Barlowe's work. Joar is a fan of biology and speculative biology type stuff, so it isn't far fetched in the slightest.
Top image depicts emperor sea striders walking through the purple amoebic sea, bottom are skewers.
Quite familiar.
I love all of these creatures

A while back I had a strange dream that the signal game was revealed to be Videocult's collab with Hello Games to make what was essentially a sequel to No Man's Sky.
Pretty fitting considering this kind of stuff can be seen in-game.
Sig Null

It's the whiskers
yeah ig
it's been over two weeks
new joar video soon perhaps?
they tend to be posted once every two weeks or so

perhaps after draw the slugcats
slubrcars
it's time
i think they mean the signal game is VERY in line with joar's wackiness
Joar Mind Simulator
they are gonna make another joar
On a wackiness scale how wacky do you think this will be
probably a little less overwhelmingly insane than golden light
but pretty wacky nonetheless
Golden Light?

insanely surreal survival horror roguelike
all the characters are meat monsters
even your character
Talking dude... in the toilet what
no way???
@acoustic heart explain
it could be game keys for other Akupara-published titles to be fair
but we can always hope
no
if you mean game keys, then probably
if you mean signal game itself, then probably not, but it will most definitely carry over common themes because it comes from joar's brain
either keys for RW, for the DLC, or both, i think
imagine if it turns out to just be another 3D joar animation
its like a 50/50 possibility either way
Have they announced signal game yet
we're on artificer currently in the stream
im starting to think it really will just be another 3D joar post
yeah so that was all just about the joar soundboard lol
no signal news OR 3D joar art
Lmao
you know considering 100% of animalmyn's development was joar struggling with the tools and workflow, i'm thinking the signal game has been in a sort of "malleable" state for a while, with the aesthetic and general themes being the only strictly established foundation
The more you reveal, the less ability for change you have.
We've been trolled
Signal
debate: is this a bridge?
they do definitely seem like the legs of a bridge, though any of these structures in the distance do look sort of... uneven?
sidenote, those "ball cranes" are interesting, you can see one here knocked over and it has some kind of "legs" sticking down through the fluid
nvm i take it back, they are pretty evenly matched, just the perspective was messing with me
however, most of these "legs" don't even have another "leg" parallel to them, usually it's either nothing behind them or one of those strange cranes
there are other cranes in some of the signals, but they're pretty different from whatever these ball thingies are
you can also see a ladder, some doors and some handrailing on these "leg" structures
also the way the water moves under these structures seems like there's something operational underneath
Wait.
i just had a thought
what if signal has something kinda like a reimagining of RW's original ending
like where you ascend the bridge into the "sky void"
except here it's a spire instead of a pyramid
and instead of a RW style void, you have an interaction with whatever the moon is
although we don't see the bottom of the spire in signal 003, so maybe it does have a pyramid near the bottom?
except more white and pristine or something
have a nice chat with the strange moon thing
it looks like the moon just got carved out
is it talkative tho?
do you think it's that bright from mere reflection, because of a possible biosphere, or perhaps it's emitting that glow itself?
(from signal 004)
ok but in this case...
that would mean that the "sky sails" we see flying around might be signal's version of the guardians
rain world 2: the skynening
what could they guard? the nets in the atmosphere?
the mesh-string-thing idk what to call it
like the biodome
yeah
what could a shitty bird do
they're probably there to keep the lifeforms in the biodome to run tasks for the system, and your goal is probably to escape or something
that would be very interesting
new theory: if you die you turn into the purple, aesthetics goop
alternatively, there could also be something else up there worth guarding
i do wonder what the death system will be in this game
same
maybe you "devolve" perhaps?
its always something wild
i could genuinely see a version of the bird's form but more devolved
like the wings just turning into arms
what would happen gameplay-wise
for primitive land navigation
and even further back, you'd become something more aquatic
it'd be like a more advanced version of the karma system
instead of losing a number, your entire form changes
the equivelent of
is eating plants and caterpillars from that twitter post lol
tiny af
might be like animalmyn where your form evolves by gaining "energy" after enough tasks performed
honestly this would be a pretty great death mechanic, because if this did have a relatively dynamic ecosystem, then it would force you to ground yourself on its level in multiple different ways
it could also add a very fun explanation for all the other signal teasers and why they're all at such different perspectives
I'm looking for a Signal in the noise
do you mean the noisy thumbnails of the videos?
woah holy shit speaking of, i can see the signal 002 structures but distorted in the signal 002 thumbnail
it's hard to tell with the other thumbnails though
actually I was just quoting a song

im bored so im messing with the thumbnails in paint.net
the thing is that like
you can clearly see the direction these thumbnails are being distorted
and if i could sort of "warp" or smudge it in the opposite directions to refine it, we could figure out what it is
but so far i can't figure out how to do that
hmm...
what the fuck
sigma symbol???
EIAOOO 003
i need a tool that can do this
waoah

reminder that joar focusing on procedural animation in 3D means we could potentially get crazy stuff like this in signal game
no
its from a vague 3D video on joar's twitter
its recent
oh i see
just a standalone video joar posted on twitter
"Bird" ~ Audio by @BRIGHTPRIMATE
very haunting
there are some small details and reoccurring imagery in these videos that hint at them having relation to the signal game project
some theorize it has links to signal
also sorry for responding to a 2+ month old post lol
happens
you do see "birds" of similar size and shape in the first signal video, some even fighting with eachother in the background, which is very reminiscent of what happened in this video
(you can see two live ones flying away from the site where this one fell)
but also...
looks to the moon
there's this art piece he made this year, which is a bit more blatant with the visuals
if the others had hints of being related to the signal game, this one absolutely is
there are a bunch of other things like this on his twitter alone, but yeah you probably get the idea
obviously not all of the stuff he posts is related to it, some of it is just random artwork he felt like exploring
Signal male
"Bad moon" ~ Audio by @BRIGHTPRIMATE
the pulsating in this video is the same rhythm of the alarm in the bird video
yeah
at first i thought it was debris, but there's tons of flying creatures surrounding the moon
damn its really hard to get a good screenshot of the bird in this video
there
the lanky bastard we all know and love
is that another "moon" back there in that reflection?
also is it me or does the moon have eyes
WAIT
there's a creature that flies above the canal bird in this moon video and it looks very reminiscent of the glowing worms from one of his previous gamedev videos
you can see it just above the bird as it passes the moon
damn there's a lot of stuff connecting together

the shapes on the moon confuse me
the only thing i can make out are the big green "eyes"
what if "FEEDFRWD" in the canal bird video is part of some kind of link
Leliel
Based Joar
i remember him making fun of some of the things in it on his twitter along with james
is there any real evidence that the posts on joar's tweetar are related to the signlas
cause the posts seem to take place in our world while the signals seem to take place on some simulated chemical factory or something
not hard evidence but Videocult's Twitter has retweeted them and he's been doing stuff with james
plus sharing some visual themes
I dont think Joar would just be posting "unrelated" videos and audio that are in the same spirit of the signal weirdness whilist asking/talking game development from time to time
I do think theyre related
well first, there's this
https://twitter.com/joar_lj/status/1485748965001895937?s=20&t=vkhVHson1WXrx2UrGVPZMQ
this one is just about undeniably related, it has the same moon shape as the distorted one in signal 004 and the same kind of trees you see in signal 001, but that's only a small part
then there's this, which at first feels mostly unrelated
but keep in mind, the buildings
but also, this strange spire in the back
"Bird" ~ Audio by @BRIGHTPRIMATE
those same two buildings are in this video
but also, keep in mind those red and bright pink plants, they reoccur throughout these videos
Tree #3, with @Janaka_Lemon
very, very similar trees are seen in this video on the sides
however
the ones in the center are even more noteworthy, because they bring one of the most direct connections
the trees of signal 005
there's tons of these decapitated trees, and sometimes the camera passes by the ones with leaves, and their leaves are similarly red like the other plants
but also worth noting is that crane, at first i thought that was an oil rig of some kind, but now it looks to me more like some kind of submerged tower, not to mention that kind of crane isn't even used in oil rigs, and also appears in his most recent video, on top of a building
"Bad moon" ~ Audio by @BRIGHTPRIMATE
also on the tapes drooping down from the top of the canal are these "feedfrwd" messages but i'm not sure what that could mean, if anything
however
most noteworthy of all in the canal bird video, is the bird itself
the long-armed, almost humanoid bird
similarly shaped birds are seen in signal 001 in the background, which at first look like seagulls until you realize how large they already look from afar
this same bird makes another appearance in the most recent joar video
you can see a few live ones in the canal bird video
this last one is the hardest to see and is best seen in motion when watching the video, i can't take a screenshot of it without looking like a mere dot
and of course here's one of them up close
Now you've got a good idea of what they look like from a distance - they look like seagulls, but with more elongated arms, and even from a distance you can clearly tell they're reasonably large. Now, let's look at signal 001.
These birds are clearly far away, and yet they're still pretty freaking large when compared to that tree, which they're clearly past.
Not to mention, they do look just as lanky as the ones in flight in the Joar video.
But most of all, from a technical standpoint, they feel like an evolution of the concept of the characters in Animalmyn.
They are similarly scrawny and somewhat humanoid, however the colors of the bird are inverted, and they are given wings. After Joar stopped posting Animalmyn stuff on his twitter, presumably around the time the Signal game started development (animalmyn was cancelled to be reworked into the signal project) he was still talking about gamedev stuff, and commonly mentioned making a game with tons of creatures present and something involving flight and g-force motions paired with the camera.
But also, I feel that giving these strange, clumsy, procedurally animated 3D characters some wings is only a natural step to making them feel more reasonable. The canal birds look like they would crawl around just like the animalmyn on land, but have smoother flight in the air. They also strangely turn around similarly to the animalmyn in the signal 001 video, which is really odd, but probably doesn't mean much.
But also, sometimes, in the signal 001 video, you can see these birds sometimes fly into eachother, causing another to come crashing down, just like what's presumed to have happened in the Joar canal bird video.
Originally, the Animalmyn were rather similar in nature, as they were very competitive creatures fighting for resources so they could eventually gain enough energy to evolve their form.
Also speaking of red plants, there is a similarly red forest in the background of signal 001 on that strange mountain.
Might be a similar area to the Joar video?
I did record a gif of some of these birds landing. (keep in mind this gif is slowed down a lot)
Nothing too special, but it does show how large they really are.
@dark vine I could go on, I do have more stuff, but I hope this satisfied your curiosity, little creature?
My general consensus is that the Joar videos are like some kind of out-of-order cinematic "prequel" type things often showcasing the world, some of them before the world fell to whatever state it's in now.
Also this is a bit obvious, but the Joar videos are absolutely NOT gameplay footage. They're clearly renders in some 3D program and are way too graphically different.
As for more in-world speculation, I do think the state of disrepair a lot of the structures and such are in give a good indication this might not be a simulation? It'd be pretty weird if whatever's hosting the simulation decided to simulate the world like that. Signal_003 felt to me like it moreso suggested something like a bio-dome with the wires and distortions in the sky.
I believe I do
sneak peek: signal oceans, but underwater
it was just me under there the whole time
no mans sky 2

idk just noticed it got archived
