Uhhhh I got to like that one area where there's a long ass hallway, I got my karma to max and entered from the gate that requires it. after that I just got my first hit on one of the Reptiles :D (rock throw then spear), then I met some Hunters, one of them got mauled by a red Lizard but I followed the other one and it led me to their outpost, I had a shiny pearl in my stomach so I threw it up and gave it to them and they let me pass!! :] After my 1st encounter with those grubby things that are REALLY scared of me for some reason I explored found and a lot of dark rooms, rain was coming and I did NOT know where it is because it was pitch black, and then I died. I tried to go again but my karma got lowered, so I went back to get some food and got killed again by a fake vine, then I ragequitted 💔 https://tenor.com/view/rain-world-gif-17720131001418045439

if you're exploring and having fun that's good!!! 
a general tip i like giving would be that your map is always there to help you find any unexplored paths!! very useful for finding places to sleep and such
also, you can always explore elsewhere and come back to that place later if the karma requirements are too much trouble. but you're doing great so far!

how long it takes really depends 
since the game is nonlinear playtime can really vary, plus it's lots of fun to watch creatures do silly things and experiment with stuff

Yeah, the length of time it takes to beat Rain World depends greatly on the player. You shouldn't be concerned on how long it takes you to beat the campaign though. Take as long as you need and explore to your heart's content with no rush.

a lot of creatures have reputation that works kinda like in real life, if you do good things to them they will like you more and if you do bad things to them they like you less

lizards have a pretty basic reputation system, there is individual reputation and global lizard reputation, global reputation is split into cross-region reputation and local reputation
if you do good things to a lizard like saving it from predators or giving it food, it will like you more as an individual and want to eat you less, theres a point where it becomes fully tamed and starts actively following and helping you
doing good things to lizards also raises local reputation (all lizards in the current region) by a small amount, and cross-region reputation (all lizards on the map) by an even smaller amount, lizards can become completely passive in a region or everywhere if you raise rep enough, you can only tame lizards with individual reputation though
scavengers have a similar reputation system but it's a bit more complex as there are more ways to gain and lose rep as well as additional perks that you can get with reputation, giving items to scavengers and saving them gains you rep with them, this makes them more friendly, willing to protect you and allow passage through their territory
the global/local/individual rep systems still apply to them, also you cant tame scavengers
there are a few other creatures with rep systems but rep with them is a lot less significant than with these 2

in my opinion, the lizards worth taming are: white lizards (common in industrial complex, ||chimney canopy||, ||sky islands||), cyan lizards (not found naturally as survivor, found in a lot of places as other slugcats), blue lizards (found in industrial complex, ||chimney canopy||, ||sky islands||)
they will be able to follow you through most places on the map

I feel like taming a White or Blue lizard is the most useful
since most lizards aren't mobile enough 2 follow me
