#Any tips for getting through the Hunter campaign?

Four days ago I started the Hunter campaign. I've been stuck in the ||Farm Arrays|| for all four of those days. I don't know how to make progress.

I'm not saying that I don't know where to go. I have a direction in mind. I'm at the ||gate|| that takes me to ||Outskirts||, which seems like it should be the path of least resistance towards ||Five Pebbles|| or ||Looks to the Moon||. But I can't get past it. The ||gate is karma locked at karma level 2||, so I need to survive for a night before getting through it. Then I need to survive the next day too, finding a shelter on the other side, and there aren't any nearby shelters . I've been trying to get past this part for three days now, with a death counter currently sitting at 32, and I'm nearly at my wits end.

The first hurdle is finding food on the ||Farm Arrays|| side of the shelter. There's a ||popcorn plant|| right outside of it but I prefer to save it for when I get food another way, so that I'll have a full belly when I cross the ||gate||. There are the ||fat headbutter flies|| outside of the shelter, but they're unreliable and will fly away often. On the other side of the open area there are some indoor rooms which often harbor ||scavs|| and ||lizards||. The ||scavs|| hate me for some reason and will often stab me the first opportunity that they get. If I'm lucky, I may be able to stab a ||lizard|| or ||centipede|| and eat their flesh. But more often than not, they'll kill me instead, and there's not really any other source of food as far as I can tell.

About a third of the time, I'll get a successful hunt. But my remaining attempts are usually cut short on the other side at the ||scavenger checkpoint||. Sometimes there'll be a ||king vulture|| there camping the ||checkpoint|| and keeping me held up until it starts raining. Sometimes there'll be a ||lizard|| that they're fighting off-screen, and one of them throws a spear that impales me. Sometimes I'll ||give them a pearl|| and after I pass through ||they stab me anyway||.

Out of a little more than 40 attempts, I managed to get past the ||scavenger checkpoint|| four times. Twice, I fell into the ||bed of eelgrass||. Once, I got ||electrocuted by a centipede.|| And only once -- on my very first attempt at getting through everything -- did I make it any further than that. (I got eaten by a ||dropwig||.)

I'm not sure what to do anymore. I've managed to power through (Downpour campaigns) ||Artificer|| and ||Spearmaster||, agonizing as those campaigns were. But this one might break me. No other campaign has demanded so much of me so early on, and from what I've heard, it doesn't get any easier. There has to be something I can be doing better.

concerning your food problem, im not sure but i think ||popcorn plants reset after 1 or 2 cycles like every plant|| so you can eat it for now

I've never counted myself, but it seems to take around ||five or so cycles|| for me, maybe more.

wait lemme pull up the wiki rq

#

it takes 7 to 10 cycles 💀

If the route is posing too much problems, there's no harm in replanning and taking a different exit out of farm arrays

you only get better at it the more you practice!

I feel that should intuitively be the case, but I've clocked over 100 hours now and I don't feel much better at the game. I suppose the Dunning-Kruger curve might be shaped a bit differently for this game though. I'm streaming with my friend and he said that I am playing very skillfully ...

People with thousands of hours in the game will still die and have annoying spots, im sure you’re doing fine!!

Unless you're a manic speedrunner you'll never get a level of skill where you're virtually immune to death or blazing through the campaign

#

You already are a 1 in a 100 player of rainworld hunterglee

Okay, well there goes the only route I knew to get to ||Chimney Canopy|| (there doesn't seem to be any way up). Guess I'll have to do some exploring.

Seems the only pathway available is the way I came. It's a lot harder going in the other direction.

#

Died about 10 times so far. In my last death, a ||dragonfly mother|| started attacking me. First time that's ever happened. I thought they were passive!

#

These ||scavs|| also seem inclined to stab me even after I give them pearls.

... Well ****

#

I must've forgotten that the ||gate was karma locked||.

#

May this be an easier trek. Somehow I think it will be.

#

Mostly because of that shelter on the other side.

#

Alright, all I need to do is get there now.

#

Not gonna lie, I have no idea how this death happened. I threw a rock at a ||blue lizard|| and immediately died.

#

What do we say to death?

Not today.

#

We'll be here a while boys

#

Did ... did I win?

#

I'm very confused.

#

||I can't play anymore. I guess the campaign's over.||

#

Man, I don't know why this is considered so hard. I beat the game without even trying. /j

#

I guess I'll try again and try to figure out what even caused ||the game to prematurely end||, because I'm absolutely confuzzled.

#

Good news is I made more progress in the first cycle than I did in the entire previous playthrough.

#

Aha, I figured it out.

#

||When I died in my last playthrough, according to the statistics panel, I was on cycle 0. When I started this second cycle, it wasn't cycle 2. It was cycle 18.||

#

The explanation is clear: ||I have cancer.||

#

This ... is going to be a hard campaign.

#

This is going to be a hard campaign.

#

This campaign may be above my pay grade.

#

This changes things a lot. Suddenly this seems like a campaign specifically designed for people with much more map familiarity and game knowledge than I do.

#

I still get lost in every playthrough. 90% of the time, I don't know where the nearest shelters are, and 50% of the time I don't know where a ||gate|| is going to take me. Doing a Rain World campaign on a ||cycle limit|| at my level ... maybe I'll do Monk first.

Congrats on the bad ending lizredsmile spearpensivetothat

#

This campaign is a big difficulty spike from survivor; you can totally do it though hunterglee

#

It absolutely requires a profound familiarity with the navigation

#

You can gain this with simple practice

#

If exploring as hunter is a nightmare you can go into an easier campaign and wander idly and get a refresher on what connects to where

#

Something that also works out good is playing through dlc slugcats hunterglee getting through their stories you get to retread a lot of ground on the way and build a good mental image on the fastest ways from A to B

#

Oh and, another note slugSweat looks like you actually have the downpour dlc enabled. Please either disable it, or if you want to keep it on then migrate to the Downpour forum rather than the Vanilla slugthumbsup

#

Hunter may be a vanilla slugcat but the dlc adds region + creature changes for ALL campaigns

elfin cliff
#

Oh I didn't know that

#

But yeah I've actually already beaten all of the Downpour campaigns except ||Saint||

#

Right now the only campaigns I have yet to clear are Monk, ||Saint||, and ||Watcher|| when I get that DLC. And Hunter of course.

foggy raptor
#

Mm, l see

Anyway I'll probably try and get another ending in the Survivor campaign, then I'll go for Monk. After that maybe I'll try doing Hunter again, and if I do and I need help, I'll be sure to make a thread in the other forum.
