To be honest, I'm considering quitting altogether as I don't particularly find the endless cycle of death and slow progress fun, however I also want to give this game a fair chance and I'm not sure what to do next. In my last post, which is prob gone by now (I have taken a break from playing the game many times for a few months) people kept telling me to go right all the way, and so I did. I went to the ocean and went into the cube room with the lady. Nothing happened. So I just ate all the little bugs flying around, which seemed to give me perma-light around my character (really helpful for that one dark area). I kind of got frustrated and even ended up killing the lady, or maybe she died on her own.. I don't know and don't really care, so I just left. I ended up goofing off, trying to find new areas, sort of trying to follow the gold creatures that were going downwards(?) and came to an area at the bottom of the red scary area with all the pipes. There were these giant guys who kept pushing me away when I tried to go near them (they also have these cryptic summoning circles around their heads?). Regardless, I couldn't go past them so I left, and now I don't know what to do..... Er also at some point I found a secret(?) area on sort of the left side where it gave me two sprouts twelve brackets achievement, I think this raised the karma level I could go to?? Anyways, no idea what to do now haha... PLSS HELP

Welcome back to rain world!monksilly

There's always the tried and true of "go where you haven't been", especially if you feel lost or stuckhunterglee

halcyon nimbus
#

I feel like Ive been everywhere tho hmmm

#

is there any major place that I should try and go to next? I've been to the giant tower, the sewers, the ocean, the red place, and the farm arrays

#

oh and the shaded citadel(?) the rlly dark place with the little mice

noble needle
#

There are copious places of importance to still explore

halcyon nimbus
#

oh no 💀

noble needle
#

The environment will try to lead you wherever it can

worthy current
#

But if you like a place or feel like there's something more too it, there's no harm in returning there to check if you missed any connections to new placesmonksilly

noble needle
#

But otherwise it is openworld and up to you to happen upon encounters and learn new things by moving forward where your guts says

halcyon nimbus
#

true..

#

is there a free roam mode or something? I really love to see the world but most of the time my brain is so focused on next objective

#

or basically not dying

worthy current
#

I mean... you don't have to focus on an objective if you'd rather roam around

noble needle
#

The meat of the game is in the experience, the story and progress-goals take a rear seat

worthy current
#

There is one (kinda) roam-mode as part of the Downpour DLC

noble needle
#

You're just a squishy animal and the game welcomes you to play it pretending to be one

#

If you're having a terrible time another option is trying out Monk

#

In practice it is survivor Easy Mode

halcyon nimbus
#

really? hm I feel like ive been playing this whole time trying to rush to the ending sort of, or just like im definitely a perfectionist or very very task oriented so if I start something its very hard to stop and put down. So exploration is kind of tricky in that I want to explore alot but the game limits me constantly and forces me to learn about an area, also i feel like im very bad at 2d platformers haha

#

would i have to start over if I did monk?

worthy current
#

Your survivor save would remain if that's what you're askingmonksilly

noble needle
#

It's a different campaign with its own story

noble needle
#

It'd be on the side

halcyon nimbus
#

wait so

#

yes starting over? like new save file, but I can go back to survivor?

noble needle
#

Yeah

#

Your long survivor playthrough can be returned to whenever

halcyon nimbus
#

well exploring all the map all over again with the monk doesnt sound particularly appealing i admit

#

especially considering the hours put in to getting past some areas

#

💀

noble needle
#

It's just an option if you get like, particularly lost in surv and want a more peaceful campaign to re-chart the world quickly and efficiently and refresh your memory

#

Or learn mechanics and stuff with less lizards out for your tail

halcyon nimbus
#

if I may ask, how long did it take you to finish the game like first full playthrough?

noble needle
#

My surv playthrough took l think 9 hours but l did have spoilers

halcyon nimbus
#

dude

noble needle
#

Taking dozens of hours is entirely expected as far as blind players go hunterglee

worthy current
#

I had few spoilers (still some) and it took me 25

noble needle
#

So don't worry about fumbling anything

worthy current
#

I would not worry about comparing times though as it varies from person to person

halcyon nimbus
#

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

#

but still

noble needle
#

Many players will draw it out for hundreds to do things like dig for lore

#

And just generally mess around monksilly

halcyon nimbus
#

omg

noble needle
#

The other end of the spectrum?

#

Speedrunners

#

The world record for survivor, a whopping 12 minutes

halcyon nimbus
#

HOW

#

lol

worthy current
#

Glitches monksilly and other silly things

noble needle
#

Some bug exploits and some real good routing

worthy current
#

I think the takeaway though is that you do what you wanna do, and the progression/story will comemonksilly

halcyon nimbus
#

i feel bad though bc part of me is like I dont wanna sink in a crazy amount of hours to a game that I dont exactly enjoy, but another part of me wants to be a part of the group that got the true, hardest blind experience, and ive already spent 50 hrs into this ahh

#

ie whether or not i should look at spoilers

#

in your guys' opinion, is the story per se, worth it?

noble needle
#

The story is absolutely worthwhile seeing blind for the first time

#

Particularly after the game's bullied you for ages monksilly

halcyon nimbus

hmm

worthy current
halcyon nimbus
#

wow ok

#

good to know

noble needle
#

If you're familiar with the game Outer Wilds and its community

halcyon nimbus
#

OM I LOOOOVE OUTER WILDS

noble needle
#

You can get a feel of what type of game this is and how attached its fans are

halcyon nimbus
#

ahhhh i see

noble needle
halcyon nimbus
#

that really good to hear

noble needle
#

Its themes and payoffs hold quite similar dna to those of OW

#

And the dlcs build upon it

#

Comparing to OW you can also see where those wack speedruns come in huntersip

halcyon nimbus
#

alright, hey thanks both of yall for the sort of help, its nice to know that blind is definitely preferred; ill give it another honest shot (I havent played in a few months lol)

#

oh yes OW speedruns haha

noble needle
#

Game will take hours of adventuring but if you know exactly what you do the beelining to the end is super fast

halcyon nimbus
#

truue

noble needle
#

Well goodluck trying to get back into it, feel open to ask questions at your leisure whenever you run into a wall slugnom
