i talked to looks to the moon and they talked about using it for them or something, then the ||gravity sphere|| icon pointed me to the left towards the new region below shoreline. i brought it there in my hands and got into the safe spot right before the gate between the two places. when i woke up, i couldn't find it anywhere in that small room (image 1), but the map still shows that it's in there (image 2)

related to this, i had another sphere disappearing scenario a few cycles ago that was solved with the same advice

put one of the many spheres into the core of big sis moon's facility then after a snowy area i got a broadcast when i got back to her
