ERROR_READ_FAILED (Root element is missing)

Tried to boot the game for the first time in a week. Said that certain mods need updates, pressed update, this came up. I haven't done anything from here yet. I'm going to try to pick at it, but I'm just documenting this here to see if anyone else has encountered it or knows what this is about. I'm also going to document my attempts to fix it here.

note: proceeed is spelled with three e's in this menu.

I don't want to proceed and potentially corrupt something

i found a log output and it looks like both the watcher and msc were disabled while some other mods (that may have dependency on either of the former) remained activated.
that could be the issue?

i'm going to close out for now, but please ping me if you have ideas/things you want me to try even for the sake of experimentation and none else

This has been fixed via restoring an older backup

I've been having this same issue and I'm trying to do the restore backup method, but it's not been registering for some reason? This is the directory I've been using:

but whenever I select a folder in the backups folder this remains blank?

I got the same thing happen to me too, I'm on console so I can't access the files and stuff all that easily and If I try to reload the save then nothing happens, scared to hit cancel

I tried creating a separate folder outside of the AppData folder for backups and nothing changed, the option is still greyed out for me. This is the new directory and folder I've been selecting:

Verifying the integrity of the files basically does nothing for me; One file had failed to validate but even after reacquiring that it didn't work :/

Getting worried cause I really don't want to have to scrap all of my save data or risk corrupting it since nothing I've done has been working at all, but it's looking to be my only other option

You'll need to manually drag the backup from the game files. Here's riv otter's message to me:

Rain World does save backup saves every 30 minutes or so which you can use to recover your save. The backups are usually located in C:\Users[[YOUR_USER]]\AppData\LocalLow\Videocult\Rain World\backup. Change [[YOUR_USER]] to your username on your PC.

If you move one of the backups in one of those folders to C:\Users[[YOUR_USER]]\AppData\LocalLow\Videocult\Rain World where the original saves are then the game should load with those backups.

Keep me posted on if you can fix this, let me know if you need help!!! I had to restore a backup about two backups prior to the most recent one. The two recent ones were corrupted for me
