BS is pretty BS at first, but if you ignore that you're just gonna be running in circles

anybody else dislike permadeath as the defacto challenge mode?
I can't help it but compare it to another game I once played called Death's Door, where the challenge mode is using a melee that simply deals half the usual damage for the entire game
thing is that it is balanced out by ranged weapons being unnerfed, so the melee works to gather up ranged uses instead

speaking of ranged, that game does those better too
melees have a combo limiter, where swinging a certain amount of times (which depended on your chosen melee) incurs a long swing lag
hitting a swing grants a ranged weapon use, which were equivalent to hitting a slash (or 2 with the challenge melee)
all of that means that you're heavily nudged into a certain flow of going in > getting melee hits > retreat > get ranged hits

silksong's ranged weapons don't flow at all, they don't grant silk and are not all that strong, are limited and need a resource that doesn't gather on its own
you're better off to just keep slashing and use silk skills when you can't slash

first time I got to her, pretty much half of the damage I was taking was from the throw because it's specifically designed to catch you when you're doing too much
being either on the air or at the wrong distance and you eat a face full of 2 mask damage
