||The main problem is not the tools being expensive, you can just not relay too much on them. The thing is that they are a finite resource that gets consumed even if you make 0 progress (die on a boss / hard area). If you get a free refresh only if you don't bench and instead die it will probably be better. If you use them a lot and survive you need to replenish in the next travels, if you die you try again||
