#Molding Misadventures (currently planning out future mod ideas... but not much else)
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
Not gonna leave my suggestion hidden in a wall of text
(might not be that good, but eh)
(Oh also, would patoma like feedback pings too? I'd guess yeah, but I'm unsure.)
Uh I think so? Idk I'd rather ask them when they appear
Also thanks for feedback
the idea does sound nice, just was unsure how original it would be. Verdant already kinda behaves like a parkour region
Ahh, yeah, I was wondering how likely it would be that there'd be another parkour one already.
Still could maybe work? But I'm sure there's other cooler ideas out there, that we just gotta discover first...
(also Looking forward to verdant now! I dunno when I'll get to it, but I'm sure I'll probably have a lot of fun there)
needs lava too
i read every single message in here anyways but sure :3
New update:
- Mod is a bit more optimised and stable now (instead of some values being constantly in memory, they are only in memory when relevant, and unused code snippets are removed)
- Singularity bombs got inv graphics now, and lizards in Verdant Waterways got their colour changed to be more fitting for the region (might be changed again if yall find a better gradient for it)
- Ancient Urban mechanic removed, instead it will be getting a new one
- Shattered Terrace mechanic added (but requires the future zip to work fully)
- New Remix interface, completely overhauled Remix code, removed an option type that noone will use to free space for more option ideas
- Removed a few misc bugs, and added small changes to Desolate Tract mechanic and devmode option
Dangit, I keep not getting around to Looking, too busy lately...
And now with Silksong around the corner, I might go back to Hollow Knight and get the last few achievements I'm missing before that comes out!
Still might do a little more Looking before then at some point, though! I might have more time tomorrow, and I wanna at least try to get through Fetid Glen before taking an extended break.
Yep, I have indeed ended up with a bit of time! Time... for more Looking 👀
Ah, today's actually going much better! Feels like I've gotten used to adapting to the randomized controls!
Finding plenty of food in the form of batflies and noodleflies (the parents are somewhat easy to deal with in open flat spaces and a spear
)
Nothing really to show, it just looks like normal gameplay except it looks like I keep forgetting what the controls are every room
Truly, an experience
(and also kinda fun and unique)
Basically to recap what I'm dealin with for anyone Looking at this who hasn't played, every time I enter a pipe (yes, any pipe), one of the following happens:
- Up and down are flipped (or unflipped if already flipped)
- Left and right are flipped (or unflipped)
- Either grab, throw or jump are swapped with one of the other of the three inputs
And maybe other things I haven't noticed
Nothing is ever switched with the special button as far as I can tell, but that one doesn't do anything in the Looker anyway, so that doesn't actually matter.
But actually, it would be funny if that one was also accounted for, so I would for example have to sometimes jump with the Y button for example
Not that important though, this is already a good challenge
tbh switching with special would also cause some buttons simply do nothing, which may be weird
It's funny how I've adapted so well to Looker mechanics... I might genuinely have trouble remembering Aether Ridge's normal layout from now on due to Looker muscle memory... which is perfect

Yeah, good point
I'd like it, extra evil misdirection, but I dunno if many others would
May add an extra option that also adds Special, Map and Pause to the list of inputs
I'd use that
Okay maybe not pause
True, that'd... yeah
but the other buttons! I would at least be very willing to try that. Could be a good extra option!
Yeah
btw how do you feel about inviting new playtesters from time to time? How, or should it be done at all?
I'd be fine with more playtesters! No real opinion on how it should be done, but yep, sounds good
btw hi @olive comet
I mostly started playing this mod out of my curiosity for it, and don't really mind playtesting, but idk how many others would do that
Also hi Rattuse
Do you want to playtest?
I'd recommend it! Is a fun mod
Maybe busy
Which is honestly fine, we can't really know what happens on the other side of our screens
She has expressed interest in playing the mod before! But that doesn't guarantee anything of course
Made it to another shelter! Getting really good at reversed controls lol
Dang, I defend Fetid Glen's design a lot, but what in the world
(not a Looker thing of course, just a vanilla Watcher thing)
Another thing, this swamp looks really cool when it's about to rain! Especially with the lights from the dead lizards
Cool to see rotten lizards with blue rot!
(guessing this is since the campaigns rot color is set to blue instead of Watcher purple. Pretty neat to see it like this!)
Made it to the echo! I'll warp menu to Heat Ducts, and then hibernate there in preparation for reexploring Glacial Tundra later.
Oh, the satisfaction of being back to normal controls!
I like the double-sided satisfaction where there's alternate mechanics that are pretty fun and unique before the satisfaction of returning to normal
Fetid Glen was rather fun! Definitely the hardest to get used to so far (overall difficulty might still be beaten by Barnacle Caves), but the learning curve around it was fun.
oh i forgot to add a custom rot color in that zip
each area has its own rot color just for fun :3 (not really a spoiler but this is Signal Spires)
college started for me this week yeah
BUT i'd still love to when i have free time

Lediting event!! Gonna take a break from looker to try to learn how to use Rained and make cool rooms!
_ _
100K Region jam lediting
_ _
Since I assume documenting the process of making a mod might also be ok here
(hopefully)
I think I'll start by... maybe just trying random things in Rained to see how things work, and get used to using it.
um... I should probably find a guide to how to do different things
Do you know how to setup a mod?
No, this is all new to me
Yay, thanks!
That said, I picked a bad time to start (right before supper). But I'll have a better look in a little while!
You'll probably want to setup your map as an arena for now, for more convenient testing.
Yep, very good idea
Ahh, unfortunate, but eating is important.
See you later.
I'm back! Time to read stuff
Alright, I think my current goal is to just make a simple one-screen room as practice. No focus on gameplay, or specific aesthetics, or making it particularly good - just making something functional in order to get used to everything, before eventually making actual full rooms!
I may make several gradually more complex test rooms while I learn how to do things.
Great. Will it be peanut themed?
Sadly no, but it will be an absolute peanut of a room
:(
I dunno if making it SU themed (kinda) is a good idea if I'm planning on doing DS rooms first, though...
Actually, maybe I should make it peaut themed!! ...somehow
That sounds fun! Also, what's that typo.
what typo- oh
peaut
how peautiful
My current test room so far! Just me messing around with things to make something that might work.
Though I keep thinking I have layers 1 2 and 3 backwards...
Well, if I do, shouldn't be too hard to fix!
But I think it's all correct, at least!
alternate view
Slightly more finished terrain! This should work well enough for the geometry for now, just something simple to experiment with.
your level wont lauch due to illegal place on this pipe, use how you did with the other pipes but with that one
also i believe you did things properly in layering, i dont use stack view so
fyi
black is l1, green is l2, red is l3
Oop, good to know!
Does a shortcut entrance have to lead into shortcut dots, or would a setup like this work?
(actually, seems like it would, based on how it reacted to the setup, but always nice to make sure!)
stack view as well, for good measure
it works!
Updated geometry some more! Might be done with the main terrain for now
is this like outskirts or industrial?
Trying something Outskirts-esque
By which I mean, not something anywhere near the complexity of the tiling I see in some Outskirts rooms I'm referencing, just some general design of the area
Including, of course, the good old classic Outskirts rock
(might move it to a back layer if I feel like it, but it's there for now!)
But yeah, Outskirts is loosely what I'm trying at the moment
That's all I had time for today, but that was quite fun! Definitely looking forward to doing more.
Here's my progress so far! I'll hopefully have a bit more time tomorrow to work on it more.
(also tested the BlackGoo and Slime effects a bit for fun! Definitely something I gotta learn more, but I'm learning decently well, I think)
looking forward for more updates later
Me too.
wow you make better rooms than me
the biggest lack in looker is lediting since i’m so bad at it
but that looks genuinely good, i like that room!
shitty outskirts rock 🥹
Thanks for all the positivity everyone! Happy to hear you're all interested
I've been Looking forward to doing more lediting all day, to be honest
Sadly I don't have much time today, and even worse, a bunch of errors have happened!
I was trying to install a new version of Rained, and after going through a lot of trial and error of setting things up properly again... I can't load my level file!
I made a new level file to see how the txt document would look, and it appeared to be a completely different format altogether!
I'm not quite sure what to do... but I do think I've documented my progress here pretty well, so it shouldn't take too long to recreate!
wow ok I'm fast lol
(me recreating the room from yesterday in a new, functional file)
Not a 1:1 recreation, as you can see - I improved a bit of the geometry in the worn down wall alcove thingy! That's about it, though.
Technically no progress on the room itself, I guess, but a lot of progress on the technical side! I should hopefully have a bit more time tomorrow to actually do some more stuff with this
For now, I might just do a little tiling before stopping for the day
I might have gone a bit overboard
eh, I can always fine-tine everything next time
That'll be all from me for today!
(also yes I added another buiding thing to layer 3, I'm absolutely gonna add more layer 3 stuff next time)
I had some free time earlier today, and did a little bit more tiling!
Y'know... just a little more
Also before that, I lost the level file and had to recreate the whole thing again!
And I even found out why...
To anyone else using Rained: Save your projects in the actual Level Editor Projects folder (LevelEditorProjects)*** and not the Levels folder!***
Learned that the hard way
Anyway, now it's actually saved properly! And even persisted upon closing Rained, so I finally did something right!!
There's even an old level file here from when I was messing around with Rained months ago!
And, it's...! Um... it's... it...
What in the world was I doing back then 🥹🥹🥹
(there's also another file just like this one where the whole left half of layer 1 was removed)
Anyway, back to my current room!
I only earlier noticed that each room has a default tile! Most of the Outskirts rooms I'm referencing use Chaotic Stone as the default, so I'll do that and see how much better the rendered room looks after that!
Looked pretty good, but I needed some more tiling
Nothing like a perimeter of LargeTrash...
Oh, just remembered! I didn't just do tiling earlier! I also did the light and some of the effects!
Honestly? This looks pretty nice! Proud of my progress on this room
(oh wait, context for non-leditors, yes the colors normally look like that after rendering before added to the game itself, so no actual color effects added yet. Admire the terrain and effects and light!)
I can't think of much more to add to the room as-is! There's plenty I could add, but I don't wanna spend all my time detailing a test room I don't even plan on submitting! But this has been really good practice.
I might have a look at the props...
Oh right, the geometry! Changed up some parts of it since last time.
Figured I could practice using props a bit, so I, uh, added some small bricks to the ground. Y'know, from the broken wall alcove thingy.
Nobody knows what happened to that wall
They actually fit pretty well!
(ignore the extreme pixelation 🥹)
(and colors, of course)
Gonna go eat, I'll be back!
this is so funny to me for some reason 🥹
random rgb bricks with an arrow
they do look nice though!!!
Looks ok so far.. willing to show the current version in game?
Yup! Just, as soon as I get to the part where I play it in-game, which I'll try to figure out in a moment!
(Probably done with it - it's just a simple test room after all, it being possibly good is a side effect

)
It's peam comedy

Setting up the mod structure shouldn't be too hard...
https://rainworldmodding.miraheze.org/wiki/Mod_Directories if you need it.
Thanks!
Though, I don't know the specifics of actually setting up a mod, but that should help with the structure and details at least!
(unless the page also contains instructions for that, in which case I might've missed it
)
I'll have a thorough Watch..
you can also just put the room files into levels folder
Ah, figures! Thanks
Of course, knowing how to set up a remix mod could be very nice to know for future reference... but I think I'll just add it to the level folder for now! Shouldn't be that hard to keep organized.
Then again... mmm, learning mod setup...
NO... you'll put in one... then 2... then 10.. and then you'll have no idea which are original and which are your. Make a mod please.
Eh, fair enough
I don't know where to start, though!
Do I just... like, make a mod folder, and then write a whole json file manually?
You make a folder called whatever you want in the mod folder.
You can copy the Json from Downpour.
Ohh, that makes sense! Thanks
There even is an example one on the wiki.
This one, or another one?
Ah, nevermind, looks like that one, based on how the jolly one looks!
Does this look good?
There were some other things I saw I could add, but none of them felt necessary for this in particular
I think the ID is mostly username.modname (to make id overlaps as rare as possible)
for shipping should be good. For testing, you might want the checksum override to be true.
got it
Curious to know what it does, but I can figure that out another time
Anything else I gotta do aside from adding the levels? I assume there's some kind of thing I gotta set up for the levels to be recognized and added to the game
more aggressive updating of the game files when the mod changes (so you don't need to incrementthe mod version after every change)
Ah, thanks for the info! Very nice to know
If you put them in the right folder in the mod, I don't think so?
This looks correct to me, so it might work!
(I checked for sensitive info before screenshotting, just in case, of course)
Well, time to test then. I think it's right, tho I can't check.
Alright, here we go!

Now to see if the mod itself actually works...
It's there!! Hooray!!!
unrendered thumbnail 🥹
YES
Of course, it's not quite done yet!
Devtoolsing time...
You can add a thumbnail layer if you want.
I might afterwards!
One thing, the top right looks a bit empty, maybe a extra fence?
Maybe!
Though I don't wanna spend too much more time on just a practice room, but quite good suggestion!
Actually, if I ever feel like using this room for anything in the future, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
Added a few objects!
hmmmmm...
evil devs hiding the brown fruit option from us!!!!
Added a few more devtools stuff, at least
Trying to figure out where the creature den options are. This room could really do with a random lizard fumbling around!
Weather jumpscare
oh creatures are set up externally and not through the dev tools menu
the process for it is different depending on if it’s in arena or within a region
Ahh, right! I remember part of the region process actually
Though I wonder which one would be better to set up for a region jam...
(so I know what's best to use for the next rooms)
i personally recommend setting up test rooms in a custom region, that way you can test connections and creatures way more easily :3
if you need help on how to set it up i can help with that btw
Alright! That'll probably be the last thing I'll do today (or the first thing I do tomorrow depending on how long it takes)
Ah, help might be appreciated, yeah! thanks
(I almost wrote thanos instead of thanks
)
ok so first of all you’ll need to go to your mod’s folder and create a subfolder called modify
within it a text file called regions.txt
and inside that you write [ADD] followed by whatever acronym you want the region to have, for example [ADD]MEOW
yeah, now the region with the acronym MEOW exists
Ah, I should probably rename my room to have that acronym in front, right?
next you have to go back to the mod folder and create another folder, this one called world
inside that create 2 folders, one called MEOW and the other MEOW_rooms
yeah exactly, make sure it’s separated by an underscore

when you rename all the room files move them over to MEOW_rooms
Rooms moved over!
ok so it’s mostly done, all that’s left is the MEOW folder
General region info is there, right?
yeah
there are a couple of files you can add that do different things in the region, but the main one is the world_MEOW file (i think that’s the name format)
Yep, checking with other mod folders, seems correct
how many entrance pipes does the room you made have?

then write
MEOW_TESTROOM : DISCONNECTED, DISCONNECTED, DISCONNECTED
END ROOMS
CREATURES
END CREATURES```

within creatures you can add the creature spawns. since you have 3 room pipes that occupies slots 0 1 and 2, so the first one starts at 3
try putting a green lizard in there by doing MEOW_TESTROOM : 3-Green
or well, any creature you want! i can tell you the id you need to write
well, that should have the region set up then!
you’d have to enter the region through warp menu since there’s no gate but other than that you can visit the room in game
Oddly, I can't find it here!
(and yeah, I did set a display name for it too)
Oh, wait, why's it not working??
did you restart the game?
I'll try
it needs to restart to load it i think
Still not seeing it..
Maybe something here doesn't work?
I'd guess it's the :3 if anything
Sorry little :3, you must go...
the : if anything
i know it doesn’t work on subregions
but i doubt that’s the problem…
Perhaps something with Warp Menu itself?
If this doesn't work, I'll try reapplying it, or looking around its folder
Yep, still not showing up...
i wish i could help more but i don’t have my laptop to check around the files to see the correct way
try comparing it to how msc does it
Maybe because 4-letter acronyms are a watcher thing, and thus don't work with vanilla? Then again, that feels like something they'd implement without needing the dlc active too...
wait… i think i might know why
in the world file try removing the space before the :
so like MEOW_TESTROOM:
it might be that or it might not be, not sure
like this?
Gonna reapply warp mod, maybe that'll fix it?
do try changing the acronym maybe it’s that?
Changed everything to TS now!
Also I saw other folders use acronyms on lowercase for folder/filenames, so I did that too (where applicable)
If this doesn't work... I'll figure it out tomorrow
STILL??????
Nyehhh, ah well. I'm satisfied with what I've done today regardless!
Actually, wait, do I need something like RegionKit and/or CRS active for this to work?
I probably do
dagnabbit
wait wait maybe try checking how msc does it
nope! not at all. this is the very basic stuff of regions it’s how the base game does it
Ahh, good to know, thanks!
What specifically should I look for? Just general files?
all i can think about is maybe the regions.txt file being wrong
no other file seems wrong
...huh.
I found a world folder inside the modify folder!!
OH DANG IT
In addition to the world folder outside of it!
I FORGOT ABOUT THAT SUBFOLDER
put the regions.txt inside a world subfolder
within modify
how did i forget about the most important step
well, at least we finally figured it out!
That feeling of finally figuring out that one issue... it's a feeling I know all too well
Oh, the MSC world folder also has folders for each vanilla region, but I'm guessing since I'm not making changes to any of those with my mod, regions.txt is all I need in mine?
yeah the modify folder exists to modify existing stuff in the base game and other mods enabled
the only change you need is to regions.txt
or well, the modify files change existing files, but msc adds new files for vanilla regions
I have no idea, everything looks fine
Anyway, it's 21 (9PM) on a weekday (and I gotta get up early-ish), so I should probably stop for now
Thanks for all the help!!
hope you find a solution tomorrow
hopefully...
Ohh, that's interesting. I was recommended testing rooms in arena cuase it makes loading in quickly easier.
well, depends on the method. if you use dev tools set up files you can spawn directly in the room
but yeah making a region is mostly better if you want to see how creatures interact with the room
otherwise it doesn’t matter much
...I might have figured out a possible cause for the issue
This was just TESTROOM before!
And I checked with MSC, and yep, this should be correct
I'll have a look tomorrow to see if it works!
I also unsubscribed and resubscribed to Warp Menu, so that might also do something? But if worst comes to worst, at least the good old devtools setup method should work
that sounds like it.
Maybe try uppercase?
Oh, make sure the case of the files matches the one in the world file.
@lusty gate ^
Oddly, most other mod files use lowercase anyway. Maybe something's up with my mod folder?
Anyway, definitely trying that, thanks!
I am specifically talking about the room files.
But no idea what other file might be a problem.
Dagnabbit, it didn't work!
Also, not sure, should it be XX_Rooms or XX-Rooms?
XX_Rooms according to the wiki!
ok.
I hope that's it...
I wish, but that's what I've had it as, and that didn't work either
This is... really something
Did you reaply/restart the mod?
I honestly don't know... I guess just compare with msc.
Try to match any syntax that does.
Everything checks out... hmm
I matched file case with msc files again, at least. Maybe that'll do something?
Nope, still nothing.
MSC rooms have more files like properties and map files, but all of those should be optional, right?
Then again, I don't have that many other ideas...
Have you tried comparing it to how other modded regions format their files?
Try some modded region then. And check room connections, they can cause lots of errors
using Custom Region Support to minimise chances of an error also works
Good ideas, thanks
I decided on Curious Ascent, and, uh
It's not there??
But still here???
invisible mod??
StreaminAssets/mods/ is for all non-workshop mods
workshop mods are found in (your steam folder directory)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\(mod id on workshop) btw
to get mod id, click copy link on workshop and take the large number near the end of url
huh weird. Try using CRS then, and check room connections carefully
also make sure to make a modify that adds the region into region list
This should work, right?
Matches up with AK (Curious Ascent)
yeah I think so
I'll check the room connections again, then. Could be an error there
At least I can still put it into levels and load it into arena! So the issue isn't anything with the room itself probably, just surrounding regional setup maybe?
Connections seem correct... (clip because flashing numbers hate screenshots)
I shouldn't have to set anything up for 4 and 5, right?
nope, here 4 indicates a side entrance for deer/miros/loaches and 5 a sky entrance for vultures/moths
nothing you have to set up
OH FUCK

i meant .txt as in the file type, not to include it in the name of the file itself
WHAT
so just regions
It does that????
oh my god i’m so stupid i should have specified
I just called it regions.txt.txt didn't i
checked the image and yup
well at least we know the cause now
I'm so glad we know...
PLEASE Rain World, let this be it!!!!! Please let me access my region, Rain World!!
Gotta reapply mods... but maybe now!!
YES!!!!! YES!!!!!! YES!!!!!! HOLY frick YES!!!

FreakING FINALLY
YAY

better 2nd image, just in case
if only i had my files for Fallen Satellite to see how i did it…
i do not know what’s wrong and i do not know how to fix it
sorry
Well, at least we got one step closer!
wait just in case show ts-rooms too
here
Should I also send ts_testroom.txt itself, just in case it's something in there?
probably yeah
though the problem would be in the first lines
the rest is just room data
Ah, ok, first few lines!
ok tbh i don’t know what is supposed to be there
Also for some reason, line 11 is just screaming
Ah, I see.
Does that have any effect on whether or not the room shows up, though?
nope, just creature pathfinding
none of the new looker rooms are baked
space after before the colon maybe?
ok so the problem is either in the world file or in that room, not sure which one
maybe TS-Rooms?
You mean the camera colon? I'll try
Huh, what camera colon?
this
I checked, and this colon appears consistent with msc
Sadly, didn't work
ok checking the modding wiki it seems correct… this is the example it provides
//rooms go here
END ROOMS
CREATURES
//creatures go here
END CREATURES```
TR_W19 : TR_L05, DISCONNECTED, DISCONNECTED, DISCONNECTED, TR_W18
other example
oh what is it
Extra space after ROOMS
If that's it, I swear...
...actually, I'll be happy I'll have solved it
Huh?
Removing that one space fixed everything lol
ARE YOU KIDDING ME
oh wait you meant there was an EXTRA space

yeah that IS an issue
literally invisible.
anyways how does it look in game :3
you should totally visit it as the looker or something
yay green lizard!
Oop, had to go to the sound tab to hear the cool and awesome sound I added
may i suggest adding another line in the creatures section? :3
OFFSCREEN : 0-KingVulture-50, 0-MirosBird-20
Here! Isn't it so fitting???
(VOLUME WARNING lol)
how the hell did you even do that
since when is that a sound
AR_Device my beloved silly sound effect
I have no idea where it plays in the Watcher, but it's apparently from there
Somewhere in AR
Wait, I can mass-search while adding the creatures
is it better than looker’s explosion sound?
probably somewhere in salination
Wait, Looker has a custom explosion sound??
it still doesn’t work does it
here, spoiler for Verdant Waterways gimmick tho
just because there is one reference doesn’t mean everything is >:c
but yes, it’s the deltarune explosion
hehehehe... i knew it

this one will bring a new dependency
May not get to play it much (the Silksong calls to us all), but I Look forward to Seeing it!
oh-ho?? Intriguing...
(it’s just CRS
)
anyways next batch will bring gimmicks for some more regions, an optional hard mode for creature spawns, randomness for spawns, modded creature spawns (if their mods are enabled) and more
it’s mostly a creature spawns update lmao
Still pretty cool! I Look forward to it
Huh, 4 different rooms!
Fun fact, it's like 0.0% complete, but I also wanted to make a mod called The Looker.
quick note, new creature spawns won’t apply since they save on first region load. you’ll have to clear them with devtools to see them
well what is it about 👀
Yeah, sounds interesting!
also that name is taken, i can offer The Peeper, The Observer, The Glancer, The Contemplator, The Starer…

Well, it's my own reimagination of The Watcher within the MSC cannon.
Yeah, I know. I actually came up with a few of those.
ok well my The Looker is a reimagination of The Watcher within the Inv canon
so it’s basically the same
Ehh. Inv is msc if everything went wrong.
inv is canon you cannot convince me otherwise
actually yes, that’s precisely what the “inv is canon” theory is based on
It's not the same cannon as the rest of msc, but... we already have Gourmand.
inv belongs in a timeline where hunter didn’t manage to complete their mission (hence why we see hll) and where pebble’s systems clogged up from trying to spew out the rot
pebbles hired slugpups to recreate iterator conditions in Sky Islands to attract the rot to there
Hypothesis: This also eventually lead to the scavengers having a massive nacho party in Garbage Wastes, except chaos ensued, and the effects of the fateful nacho party rippled throughout the facility
In addition to the rot shenanigans
What story ideas did you have for this, though, if any?
(I'll get some food in the meantime)
no, that’s due to all the toxic sewage that was spilled there. this also contaminated nearby regions, resulting in them having various phenomena (lizards mutating into a new species in HI, snailes appearing from thin air and causing massive explosions when their shockwave reacts with the air in DS, blinding amoeba slowly affecting you in SB…)

Ahh, true! Can't believe I forgot all the Inv lore like that, smh mh my head
on the other hand looker has no lore behind the gimmicks :3
But does it have... enviornmental storytelling??
… wait a second i can write lore pearls that explain it
the WTDA one is just going to be “oh this isn’t a pearl at all, it’s a perfectly round snowball. i’m not sure whether i should be more surprised of where you got it from or of how you got it here intact.”
Oh also here's this
I think I'll have a pink lizard there, and consdier myself done with the practice phase!
Question - would anyone want a zip of the mod to play through that silly little room?
i’m stealing this and adding it to looker
hehehehehehehehe
ok but seriously something that the looker is urgently lacking is good lediting
i am so unbelievably bad at it, you’ve seen Daemon already
I can't promise I'd always have the time, but if this is an invitation to ledit... maybe I could sometimes?
If that's what you mean
As long as there's no real rush (as I don't have that much free time in general most weekdays), I'd be fine with it
that would be awesome 🥹
the one room i am somewhat proud of (still needs heavy readjusting) is sprinkles’ den
have fun finding it

yeah that one
inside it there is a cyan with sprinkles’ id and mean set to -1 to always be friendly

Perfection

it’s in a region you haven’t been to yet
I Look forward to finding it!
But anyway, for anyone who wants to explore and jump around my silly room... here it is!
(though do be warned, the AR_Device sound is pretty loud in the room lol)
Sorry, force of habit
Evil Pizza...
But also!! More monkcolonthree!! The power of monkcolonthree can spread farther!!!
The world (for some reason) became unstable, making a bunch of random rifts! You are, a very curious slugcat, that wants to find out the truth, but there is only one source... and that source says you'll never find all your answers.
I currently have 4 rooms, one of which I am happy with, for a new subregion and big plans...
Ooh, that sounds really interesting!
The idea is neat, but... it's way to big for me and my friends to make, and I really don't want to get other people into the project, as the chances of it ever finishing are slim.
Yeah, understandable. Still, pretty cool idea! Was nice to at least hear about it!
Having overly ambitious ideas is quite relatable
if I get it to about 50% complete, I might consider getting outside help.
That sounds like a pretty good goal, honestly!
Good luck with the project! It would be rather cool to see
(And, on a tangential yet somewhat related note, good luck with your arena shooter too!)
I am giving the shooter a higher chance of finishing.
Hopefully all goes well with it!
the sudden lag spike... the red dots in the air... the masses... this is incredible
i should try lediting at some point for sure
It's actually kinda fun!
I'd love to see you try and ledit!
It's surprisingly simple to learn, all things consdiered
Easy to learn, hard to master...
I do fully reccomend at least trying it!
Yep, I think I'm done for today.
For anyone wondering what my next plan is... behold what I'm cooking up:
My first real room, and my first submission! Er, when it's done, of course.
Might be a bit ambitious to do a 3-screener immediately (yep, this is just a wip of one third of the room), but I felt like it! I have ideas...
Fixed some geometry real quick
(also look at how many rooms I'm referencing lol)
Anyway, that's all for today! For real!!
Looks really good!
Thanks!
Haven't really been documenting much of my room-making process this time, just been having fun designing, tiling, detailing...
But here's another update!
I'll focus on extra background details later (such as putting numerous pipes everywhere and spreading some trash tiles around), for now I'm mostly focusing on the layer 1 terrain (and layer 2 stuff where complimentary)
Although, I do want a suggestion for something...
Does anyone have a suggestion for what to tile that one thin platform? I want it to be a sort of grate-esque thing for the stream of water to pass through (while still being a solid platform of course). Any ideas for what tiles to use?
(I'll probably also add more pipes below it in the walls later)
Maybe a vertical one of those tank holder walls would work? Turbulent Pump uses those sometimes, and it works pretty well there, so maybe?
Doesn't look that bad... but if anyone has any other suggestion, please tell me! I'm sure the perfect tile is still out there somewhere...
Honestly don't know... maybe check what gates actually use?
Ah, right!
Looks like they use SkinnyBeams... that could work, maybe.
Looks kinda odd... maybe there's something I'm missing
...wait, I might've found something
Tried using DiscPipes! Not bad, honestly
Gotta chech in-game, though
(First felt like changing the camera angle a bit to center it more on the unique pipe)
Not too bad!
That'll do for now
Here it is with the correct palette, too!
Anyway, this has also made me realize I need to make some adjustments to geometry, so I'll do that next
Some adjustments have been made! The bottom-left is now slightly less annoying, the exit on the top left requires a bit less effort, and the pipe has fewer waterfall tiles to make things a bit less turbulent down below.
I've also raised the water level, but the bottom left chambers aren't gonna be submerged like the pipe on the right, due to some pretty cool devtools objects called air pockets which I shall add later!
I am not sure, but those sound as Watcher content...
Also I've realized I might have to make this a 4-screener to fulfill my vision lol
SharedDLC, I checked
ah cool!
But yeah, probably added with Watcher
By which I mean I checked the wiki, but that seems like a good source, and it feels like something that'd be more reasonable to put in sharedDLC rather than to keep Watcher-exclusive
Room update!
The idea for the third section is to have a sort of climb across the upper section where you have to avoid monster kelp (I'll ask Alduris really really nicely with a please and a cherry on top if those can stay there in the region itself), where you can also drop down into the water pipe swim below!
Moved geometry a bit to better align with the center of the 3rd screen (as indicated by the temporary tiles I put on the bottom)
make sure to put those platforms you can stand on but also fall through at just the right height that slugcat can't jump on top of them and has to go some other platformy way to get on them 🥹
looking at you DS_C02
You got it
/j
evil
Funny how this room has ended up as a mish-mash of multiple rooms... B01 and B02, B07 (with more kelp, probably), and a bit of a unique Drainage Tunnel™ at the bottom
Hopefully it won't be too overly convoluted...
or... hopefully it WILL
/silly
The evil power of Drainage...
btw as someone who havent played much mods, how many dependencies is an "average" for a modded campaign? What could be considered too much dependencies?
i usually see about 3-5
that being said most mods share the same dependencies so i usually already have them
CRS and region kit I assume are common.
very
Oh, and slugbase and iterator kit too.
Sometimes it's too fun.
T h e l e d i t o r s g r o w.
Riddle: Have I been working hard, or hardly working?
(The answer is both, that's how it is during weekdays
)
But now... weekend! Much more time for all the fun lediting now!!
Anyway... I've been wondering what to do with this long stretch of water down there. I mean, I can't make it an enclosed tunnel, you should be able to go from above! But leaving it empty would be boring... even if this room is dense enough as is
And then... a perfect idea hit me.
An idea that has been staring me in the face for a while.
What if... and hear me out, here, what if...
evil leech pit
Of course I edited the geometry on the sides so that leeches would be less likely to enter the fully underwater pipes - that kind of leech gameplay is no fun (to me)!
But like this, this could add another risk to falling down, and also add some more engaging gameplay for a long stretch of water that I otherwise don't know what to do with gameplay-wise.
And it's Drainage System!! They should be right at home here
Now all that's left for me to design layer 1 stuff for before the extra polishing is screen 4, which I might just style after the left side of the rooms I based screen 1 off of. Both standard entrances would then ease you into the full chaos of the room gradually, rather than dumping you into kelp platforming chaos instantly
(...I might make part of a future region something like that. Ceiling climbing with kelp! I mean, Verdant Waterways alredy kinda does that, but still!)
I'm really proud of all I've done so far! No idea if the room will be fun at all, but it certainly Looks cool!
...Also, just remembered the thread name is a bit outdated at the moment
Modding Misadventures (currently lediting for the 100K jam)
Don't worry - Looker will return in a while!
I hope it won't be too obvious which parts are literally copypasted from vanilla rooms
I've at least tried to make my own unique spin on everything, and I like to think I've done a good job with that so far, at least
Cool lightmap moment
of course as soon as I send it I notice the multiple imperfections lol
Updated one:
What... time is it?
Reasonable time for a weekend evenin... nevermind, morning
(I'll go sleep soon)
Last update for today!
I also set up the region for testing it and setting up spawns!
...The kelps are, uh, a bit longer than I designed the area for
But they work well, and that's what matters!
looks really good so far!!!
ooo a fellow region jam ledit threade
im trying to avoid soiler though so if it changes ill probs leave
Hope you enjoy your stay!!
Oh, what spoilers are you avoiding, by the way? In case it's something I can more easily avoid or warn you about
...Unless you mean modded campaigns in general, in which case understandable and same.
Yeah modded in general
I pretty much only beat sunlit trail and the impulse for now but I can follow the outsider for a bit
Should I try to let you know when regular modded playthroughs continue here? It'll probably be more Looker, in case you're wondering
I dunno if this is frowned upon in lediting, but I decided to adjust the height of the room to a non-standard amount. I've tested the room a bit, and I think the kelp at the top sticks out a bit too much for my liking, so I decided I wanted a bigger border to spawn it a bit higher up.
Again though, I don't know if this should be avoided, but since the level itself is still fine, and this is mostly outside the camera view anyway, I assume this should be fine? Maybe?
It does seem to work properly, which I think is most important here. Might adjust it a bit more, but it can no longer reach fully to the bottom "layer" of platforms, which I think is better.
(just realized I didn't use the newest render of the room with the extra wiggle room lol)
Shouldn't be a problem.
wow i cannot believe you would do that wow. this is such an insult to all the hard works that modders do
yeah that’s totally fine lmao i did it for one of the Daemon rooms to add an offscreen waterfall
Good to know, thanks everyone!
The waterfall example makes it feel even more like a cool advanced lediting trick
uhh I mean oh noes... how could I have done this??? only one week, and I must already return my Cool and Peak Leditor lisence... oh noes...

/j
pfff of course
One thing I kinda want to do in a room, is make a room where the geometry and render don't match, but it's still fully playable (in the context of the room)
That actually sounds really cool! ...and probably also very hard to play, but that's funny
That actually made me think... imagine an entire region where the geometry is, like, offset a set amount to the side, or uses renders from other rooms or something
It could work in a more cinematic region.
Imagine walking, and you just fall through the floor.
That actually sounds like it could work well! I'd love to see that.
Technically it should be possible to force place geometry in Rained without meeting the geometry requirements, but I don't know how far that would go for something like that...
Broken palette + wrong room png + positive water depth would go crazy
And with overlapping cameras, there could be a thing where you first walk right through a empty room the next screen is empty, but when you return, you can see previously invisible geometry.
with new ripple screen system, I think it might be possible to make a room which changes visible geometry each time you check the screen
You can just render, change, render, and then match the pngs and txts from different renders how you want.
I don't know much about that... how does that work?
Oh, right!!
Dang, I wanna see something make use of that now...
(or maybe use that trick myself in the future
)
If the screen has rippledata, it functionally loads two screens at once, with one being shown over other depending on layers
like how shaders with conditions work
btw unsure if yall heard of Community Challenges mod, but it could be fun to try something similar when Watcher fully releases
player-created arena challenges
Also, this feels like something I'd expect Watcher to do in future content. Maybe not this technique exactly, but the same concept of entering a room, going to the end, then seeing things have changed in the same room would be awesome!
The Throne... kinda does that (during the first visit (and actually all visits, but most notable in the first one)), but not in the same room
Sounds fun...
Honestly I'd start preparing it now, but already working on Looker and update is close to release anyways
Understandable
Looker?
A mod me and Patoma are working on. Think of a custom slugcat using Watcher map with Inv-like shenanigans
I can send a build of the current mod update here if you want
Oh, yeah, I was confused because I heard it was Potamas mod.
Also if you wanna see someone documenting their playthrough, Look at the top of this thread!
This explains.
Patoma is the one making spawns, rooms, file editing stuff etf. I'm the one making code part of the mod
I probably won't play it myself anytime soon... sounds fun, but I don't think I have the time.
Yeah the development and stuff will likely be paused soon too, in 5 days when Silksong comes out
Same here, as much as I wish I had the time to continue...
Silksong is the biggest break reason for a lot of us, I'd imagine
that and the possible Watcher update ready to ambush us at any moment
yeah lol
I honestly hope Watcher update gets delayed due to Silksong, to give it some light and more time to develop
It's, like, the perfect oportunity to do so, I fully agree!
Honestly, I am very mixed about watcher... I really hope they make it better.
And as someone very positive about Watcher... I most of all want it to be the best version of itself it can be, so I agree!
I think I've made their positions the best I can, now!
Might be time to finally move on to... the detailing!!
That's a cool ledit
Thanks!
scary monster kelp
what a nice room
i so look forward to playing the region jam mod drainage system and farm arrays mod
Same
....woag
I'm impressed by myself
Though, I do see some things to adjust, but I think I'll do all the final adjustments and devtooling tomorrow (technically today
)
If anyone has any suggestions though, feel free to tell me, and I might consdier it!
yup, theres a drainage rooom if ive ever seen one
good job man
videocult should add this room into the game
Holy wow, thanks so much!!
Honestly, the same could be said about your Filtration room!
nah its not that good, i think i can do better
And I really look forward to hw your current room will finally turn out - it already looks quite nice!
mmm yes this is definitely the correct thread for your rooms
yes
As long as you know what you can do better, that's what matters!
The room as-is has plenty of potential, I can very much see that
Might just be because you're earlier in the process. The foundation and ideas are already really cool, and after more tiling and effects... ohhohoho. I look forward to it!
Anyway, happy lediting! I should go sleep probably
gn
would you like the finished result 📌?
i really need a rain world related pinning emoji
Ah, sure!
is that the finished result at the bottom
No, not yet! Finished result should be hopefully soon
ping me so that i can steal the pin from rattuse
depends whos on i suppose
Actually yeah, true
Ping me too for that!
ping every felper
ping every helper
ping everyone in the server
silksong just a week away
3 days until Silksong tomorrow
5 days until Silksong yesterday
4 tomorrows until silksong
im just worried that everyone in this servers gonna leave to p lay silksong
I doubt everyone will leave, but yeah the activity is going to drop severely
I'll probably at least try to ledit until the end of the region jam event
But then, I shall enter the Silksong caves...
yeah this is wha ti mean
solution: dont worry about activity and play Silksong too
its pretty cheap and even my friends' potato PC can run it
the details are already on steam page and some other sources I think
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about that
rain world came out before silksong
Silksong won't change how active I am.
...I think the room might be just about finished.
I've added some food in good spots, a bunch of environmental water sounds, and am currently rerendering some improved effects.
Soon...!
Coming together pretty well! Just gotta ask modding dev about some things now
Ok things took a bit to finish, and I had other things to do, but now... it should be finished!
Behold, my first full-effort room:
@vapid steppe @feral dawn @olive comet could one of you please pin
An unexpected winner!!!!!
This is lovely btw
Yeah I didn't wanna bother all of you too much with the silly thingy

I... literally signed up to be annoyed with it...
I was gonna say "ping me too just because!" Then saw the finished result lol
Incredible timing
Very

Just to make sure, this should be correct for the submission, right?
...I sent a zip with another folder inside lol
How about this?
Seems like it should be fine, I don't think I'm missing anything...
Alright, I'm gonna do it!! I'm gonna send it! Here we go!
It has been done!!

I really hope I did everything right...
My only real issue now is that I wish I added more effects to that one empty part of screen two, and a bit of trash in the leech pit. But those are just minor nitpicks I think! And either way, I've has a lot of fun, and feel like I've learned plenty for future lediting.
Thanks for the support on this room, everyone!
I do have plans for more rooms, but I'll think about those another day, and I'm unsure if I can make them before the end of the event... but I'll try!
And even if I don't... well, that's not the end. I know how to ledit now! I can make all my ideas now! I'm certainly not done lediting anytime soon! (except for the breaks I'll take for Silksong + Watcher update + actually getting through my backlog of games some more
)
what a turn of events
i cant even see the detail because of discord compressing the image preview on mobile 🥹
BUT I CAN TELL IT LOOKS AMAZING EVEN FROM THE 1 PIXEL QUALITY
nintendo ds looking survivor
this is such a good ledit especially for your first multi screen room!!!
it really feels drainage
Was gonna send individual screen files too, but got distracted
I'll send them anyway!

So true, honestly
...oh no
I forgot to make the room actually be affected by rain again
I gotta remember to fix that tomorrow
they are so little
Smolvivor
:kelpsilly:
I only just now found out how to make rain moss darkened
Would've been nice to know earlier... but ah well.
At this point, I've designed the room to not really need recolored rain moss. But I'll keep it in mind in the future!
Never even paid much attention to the existence of effect settings
Yeah it's probably the x here lol
Anyway, that concludes my random ramblings for the day. I'll fix the rain issue tomorrow!
You'll set up rain in the dev mode while in your room
I know, but still, thanks!
That may or may not be how I got into this situation lol

Still, always good to make sure people know stuff, so thanks for the info!
wait WHAT
Also you can jump by pressing jump
Maybe I should have spoil tagged that
No, this is incredibly helpful!!! You're telling me I don't need to osmose through terrain and seep across the ground puddle-style super slowly to navigate???
Thanks so much
Smh failing your job as a felper /silly
evil felper
Room looks really nice and fun to play! I like how you added the water level transition and the leeches below the monster kelp platforms to make the gameplay feel more dynamic - feels like the gameplay would fit perfectly in Verdant Waterways
Thanks a lot!
The dynamic gameplay and alternate routes through the room was very much a big focus while making it, glad to hear you enjoy how it turned out!
Finally fixed!!
Now with that out of the way... I have what could potentially be a hard idea.
See, there be no Watcher tiles and props available yet, but I wanna make a Watcher region-inspired room, or even multiple!
And to make matters even harder... the region I have in mind is
Fetid Glen
eh, what's the worst that can happen??
cant wait until you get your modded artist role
...i think lediting lets you have that role i have no idea though im not a melper
A lot of existing tiles that are used in Watcher regions, some tiles that look similar to new ones and mockups of new ones, I would guess
And maybe avoiding room styles that require too much stuff that hasn't released yet, maybe?
I'm probably gonna focus much more on the machinery side of the region rather than the mushroom side due to the lack of the relevant props
(Though, I do wanna use invisible mushrooms for something (
), but I don't know how I'd go about doing that at the moment, really)
(I'll figure out something creative, probably
)
Oh, I decided to actually plan out part of the layout in advance this time!
are the lavender scribbles mushrooms
I figure this could work as a less annoying use for them - alternate hidden path!
my one request: little area filled with an unnecessary amount of mushrooms
I'll see what I can do
in general i love how mushroom infested fetid is for no reason 🥹
I don't think that particular mushroom prop is available, but I'll figure out something!
oh i just meant the drugs
OHH yeah, sure
I was planning to make a lower-effort one-screen filler cave room too, I'll put a bunch there!
I do plan to add some possible frog spawns
Like, one room with an annoying basilisk, but one with frogs to heal you, and then maybe a pool with 1 leech and some spore puffs to get rid of those too...
What if...
/j, I hate those too lol
Oh, ture!! Hmm.... I might suggest it!
Mind if I forward your message to looker devs?
Actually might be better to screenshot all of them, but yeah, I'll do it!
what have you done...
Actually they might see it here too, but might as well

yeah even making a dms skin does
nah no way they do
Aw dangit, how inconvenient

truly
unfalsely
Oh, how would I apply for modding artist then?
Or does the secret modder service apply one to my face when I least expect it
poke the nearest melper
probably alduris
I might bring it up if we talk at any point (in a modding context)!
Which might not be anytime soon
Except discussion of room submissions happen or something
Otherwise he only knows me from my watcher-spoilers rickrolling

if there's a rain world version of a rick roll that would be even funnier
needs more ogscules...
Maybe when I finally get into music making, I could make a RW-style cover

May not be anytime soon, but I gotta try doing that some day...
noodlefly version like that bad apple one
hmm... are there multiple vocal singers in the song? I can't remember right now lol
I don't think so, but imagine using different noises for each...
It's quite late, so here's today's progress on this room so far!
Of course some things are different from the picture - sometimes I feel what's right as I go
Anyway, I'll continue tomorrow!
looks nice so far
I got it just by posting my filtration system room so
I still don't know what it is though lol
lediting or making a dms skin apparently!!!
But what does it do?????????????
Just a cool badge ig?
Isn't that what the rwsc roles are for
i guess it's more like hey i made a cool level or dms skin!!!!
Cool badge role...
Anyway, I swear I got a decent amount of sleep last night 🥹
(like, at least 6 hours of sleep, wowie zowie)
I have realized, though, that I may have to try to recreate the mushroom platform tiles/props myself...
Tried to understand this, but I can't really understand it all from just reading
I'm much more of a visual learner.
Thankfully I found this! Much better!
In this video I walk through how to create your own tiles for the rain world level editor. Here I walk you through all the necessary steps, and explain all the concepts and ideas required to make a tile.

[#nm:"...", #sz:point(w,h), #s...
I think there is a short tile tutorial pinned in some modded chat?
I remember those are used in Hanging Gardens (amazing region)
Specifically GH, but maybe also HG (old version I haven't played yet)
It's a really cool tile!
right i plan to play hanging gardens with lush mire and preservatory if i can
i should get to that 🔜
Perfect combo honestly! Each region is so good in a different way...
Also if you haven't, try modded Coral Caves! Feels surprisingly different from the Watcher version, and the mod is another one of my favourites (along with Hanging Gardens, Fishnoid is such a good leditor in general)
maybe i can combine aether ridge, coral caves, and stormy coast then with those three... if they are compatible
Coral Caves does connect to Stormy Coast and Aether Ridge (though you may want to enter both from other entrances), so it's possible!
I can't remember if all of the regions are on 1.5 as they generally are now though, as that's the only way to hypothetically play mod Aether Ridge, iirc
Eh, it'll be fine!!
Stormy Coast iirc did not exist on 1.5 - all the others mentioned other than Preservatory did, though!
Good to know, thanks!
Though, I think Coral Caves was different at some point?
Coral Caves is significantly different on 1.9, plus some MSC campaigns have their own versions of it (and same for Stormy Coast)
I certainly recommend Hanging Gardens, Lush Mire, and Coral Caves - those were some of my favorite modded regions when I played them on both 1.5 and 1.9
While I haven't played Preservatory I've heard many good things about it
Yep, seconded!
Preservatory is honestly really cool, especially theming and lore! the gameplay's pretty decent too, and I like the structure of it!
Someday I also gotta remember to play old Hanging Gardens to see how different that was (probably very different
)
Anyway, finished* gameplay for this room!
*will polish a bit more later
I felt a bit uninspired for the right side, but ah well.
I'm open to suggestions for any of these rooms!
And during breaks at school today, I managed to plan out the layout for another room!
...Yeah, complex, I know
How much progress will I make today...?
that's a big mush-room!
And yet, surprisingly, I don't have mush room to work with
Wow pizzas you gonna have a lot of ledits
Lotta rooms planned! I hope I can get around to doing all I want...
I think I'll call it here for today.
I've also started making custom mushroom tiles! Might focus more on rooms though, in case I run out of time, so I can at least try to adjust for no shroom.
all i know from it is that one shelter 🥹
In old Hanging Gardens? I can't find any that stick out that much.
There's this one in GH (new Hanging Gardens) which is pretty cool! I remember spending a while in this one
Unless... maybe you're thinking of Concealed Gardens? I haven't played that one, but it does have a very unique shelter, I'm pretty sure
and
