Both ideas involved somehow getting down there (without childrens) and loading the shelter into the map and then passaging down.
Yk how a lot of the vanilla mapping is transferred from survivor to dlc scugs? But regions like shoreline and subterrain that have been changed a lot have the map erased. I'm considering perhaps going down there as survivor and completing the map so i can passage down as gourmand. Though I doubt it'd work since I already started this campaign.
Another idea is trying to use the corals and/or frogs to get down to load the shelter. I can passage down with the kids.

What if the underground areas (or maybe some above ground areas) outer expanse were some kind of ancient void fluid harvesting area or whatever. Like the medieval era of void fluid revolution (I mean come on there's a literal castle too!).
Anyways, when it was abandoned for living on Iterators the local flora and fauna took advantage and thus this funky tree exists. I mean you don't always see these inconceivably massive trees with giant glowing orbs on them.
Plus, the train system could have been for equipment/fluid/supply transport
