I can only assume that the old inhabitants wanted to escape the endless cycle of life and death, they got tired of it. I also debate if the world became....hostile towards them? Like despite all their measures they just couldn't live there anymore. Hostile as in metaphorically or literally? No idea!

I think the creators wanted to 'ascend' the entire plane of existence, leaving the torment of the cycles behind and taking their work with them, to live on somewhere else.

It's weird how the Iterators speak of it though. They seem to have a firm belief that the old inhabitants are just gone, never to return. If the Iterators were to find the triple affirmative wouldn't that technically reunite them with their creators? Maybe the ascension plane functions under completely different laws that wouldn't allow them to interact under conventional methods. Perhaps the Iterators don't understand completely themselves.
If we were to follow Five Pebbles' theory on all this it would make sense for the other Iterators not to understand? I don't know, if anything I've gotten a vaguely direct answer to all this but it's much more than Moon gave xD

Or maybe I'm going about this wrong? The triple affirmative (if I remember correctly) is "affirmative that a solution has been found, affirmative that the solution is portable, affirmative that a technical implementation is possible and generally applicable." For the triple affirmative to have so many conditions I wonder if there are "solutions" that do follow some of the conditions but are either too risky or big to implement. This is the first mask I ever got in this campaign. I got it from a scav whiling climbing up the wall for the first time. Often use this mask to make lizards stop harassing me while making my way up and down the wall. The masks I kept this one with have all been stolen by those PESKY SCAVS!!!! So now I shall be keeping this one in the hoard shelter so it's safe :)
