#Watcher Discussion

watcher lore is very loose, I think its why I'm seeing low enthusiasm for writing about it
I think whenever they update it again a lot of things will start making sense
I feel like it's too clear about the wrong things, and not clear enough elsewhere leaving it weird to speculate/expand on
there was definitely intention in a lot of things it's just very vague yeah lol
maybe, I'm just a stinker and feel like it should have been content complete from the start
what we got was pretty neat, though
tbf if it was complete from the start we would still be waiting for it lol
Rot is a well known concept to iterators, it's implied multiple iterators have had the rot in the past
Also hunter seems to have rot as well? Given FP's unfortunate comment + the fact that hunter illness effect appears when the prince talks to the watcher, prior to the rot prince ending and if you have max warp fatigue
damn I even datamined and did not notice that whatsoever lol
good to know there's some more evidence to support it's actually the rot outside of downpour then
Yeah, though it's not hunter long legs rot
More like a disease
I view the rot as a disease of the world that happens when you move to the fringe of the world/realities/the ripples
yeah like some kind of universal constant disease thingy idrk how to phrase it
Outer rim, rotted base game and unfortunate evolution all say "the fringe is too unstable" if you try to warp with no karma flower there
the whole karma flower thing also makes me think that karma flowers actively repel rot which is also why I sorta feel like they are opposites in a sense
which also makes the prince ending a bit more interesting because I still do not think the karma flower sprouting was planned by him lol
This is a hallucinogenic plant. They used to call it a 'Wheel Flower'. It became the symbol for enlightenment as it momentarily enables a creature to let go if[sic] its carnal self, and to contact the selves of other planes - dreams, memories, imagined worlds.
Moon on karma flowers
Yeah, maybe
You need karma flower protection to safely warp between realities if you random warp
best way I can explain it is that like, warping with karma reinforcement repels rot which causes you to not get pulled into those rot areas
and also the places in the throne where you can actually place a rift seem to be only in areas with karma flowers surrounding it, but also those rifts do let the rot spread through them so it's a bit weird ig
Bleh you shouldn’t have come here.
It is too far.
Blech, bleh. I hate it.
Gross gross gross.
...
After a point it’s all like this.
Glip glop everywhere. Sea of lumps, forever.
So glad I cannot sniff!
Spoiled meat, dissolving proteins. Yeeck.
Let's away.
Spinning top in rotted regions
Random warping with no karma flower protection sends you "too far" as spinning top says
You can place manual rifts in some other rooms actually, those rooms in the throne are more convenient however
do they all have some kind of shared attribute then or
For the rot to travel through a portal the room needs enough sentient rot infection
I think if you make the warp elsewhere, the portal won't stay, only in those designated rooms it will stay. Not sure, though, could be wrong on this one
I do remember from datamining something I found interesting was that karma flower warps from rotted regions prioritized / guaranteed non-rotted regions
Oh nice
Interesting
Dunno if there's a lore reason for it or if it's just to make the rot ending easier to get (it's kinda grindy)
no clue if that's solely to be easier gameplay wise or if that has actual lore significance
yea I was about to say loool
Not going to lie I kinda just got the rot ending by making all the portals in the 4 side rooms because it lets you do that
Also this dialogue makes me think the rot is just something that happens
Not necessarily tied to iterators
FP having that much importance would feel weird for this game, he is just a bug in a maze. Just like the other thousands of iterators. He's not important
yeah no I think it's just something that exists
like it's just there and the reason why FP ends up making it is because it is "just there"
Also his rot behaves very differently.
No spores in the air, different colour.
No infecting other creatures.
Gets weaker and dies outside his superstructure
probably what distinguishes it from "sentient" rot
not quite sure what qualifies it as sentient though because the sentient rot in the watcher seems to be a lot more overbearing and spreading
saying here because what I say might get into watcher spoilers
after watching that lore video, while I'm unsure, if hunter long leg is a downpour exclusive thing for my headcanon or not (I saw some people got pretty heated up about HLL was widely accepted so I'm unsure this is my biase from their biase or something)
I now have a headcanon that hunter suffered, whatever it had at the end because it tried to stay in this life after too many deaths
mivi-bit's lore video on how cycle work is pretty good on incopreate mulitple timeline alongside reincarnation
there's stuff I don't agree with (purely because what I want to do with my stories)
and I think rot actually have a strong urge of karma 5, survival
which I think rot is when something is unable to let go
(ok I have no idea if I write something wrong here, I was interrupted when writing this and the flow was broken)
(now I understand why pebbles is mad when Moon forced communication. At least I wasn't taking someone's life water
)
I personally think hunter has the rot, but more cancer like/disease like and not HLL monster like
The corruption mentioned in the LF pearl
yeah good thing that they didn't go with this method ;-;
(bumping the thread) still waiting for an update that gets arena stuff
or region arts. I saw a video complain about it and I realized that was missing too
Doubt we will get region arts unless they add passages or something
That's a lot of art to add
Arena stuff will definitely be added, I think
Have you tried playing after the recent patches?
They really fixed the dlc
The creatures are way more balanced now and ||after visiting shattered terrace you can see what regions you've visited have echoes. Also the rotted region indication is way more clear now||
not really, I only played after the first patch, I might open a new save and try for rot ending
I encountered a bug and put it on bug report
I came to the conclusion now, I don't like the 3d map and portal thing, as a game mechanic
it's comparatively exhausting to vanilla or downpour to remember the map, with making new portals disrupt the map in my head even more
for other campaigns I find it exciting to go back and play it second or third or fourth times, but I found myself just look up tutorials and map online for ending-and even with those I just felt exhaustion.
oh that's. that's end of game spoilers unspoilered. I'm gonna burn my eyes out
I'm just going to pretend I didn't see that considering that against my best judgement I bought the dlc
it's been a month already, and in the watcher spoiler thread... that said it's impressive if you managed to not spoil yourself for this long
.
But yes, since the rule isn’t being followed I no longer have this channel pinned
anyway I came here comment here on watcher's cutscene, while I kind of wish they told more story compared to survivor, it's interesting to see a slugcat attacks the pups
territory war is canon /j
Solaris please just spoiler mark the end of the plot spoilers. It’s understandable that you may have missed the top post, but it feels rude to joke about spoiling it to people and not change anything. Two people have mentioned you specifically spoiled the ending, please just mark it so nobody else sees it..
There’s also #watcher-spoilers
@dry lance in case you missed it
As a general message:
Heavy spoilers should be marked as such. However, if you are susceptible to Watcher spoilers, I would highly recommend not following this forum. The risk of coming across any spoiler is too high.
