Hey is this the place where server challenges for watcher are being discussed?
Just yesterday I asked about it

Ideas, as well as discussion of various interesting aspects that could be turned into challenges later
technically our cycle 0 win discussions and OE warp stuff isn't challenge related but the chalvers are nice to us
it's a challenge, just not a server challenge
also I want to come up with a cycle 0 server challenge concept but everything is too complicated and seed-dependent 
one idea I had for a server challenge is entering and leaving all four rotted vanilla regions without sleeping (or saving by meeting an echo) but it might be fully RNG dependent to put you into all of them in a row
What happens when you tame a lizard and then meet an echo? (at the beginning)
it's happened to me before but idk if that's normal
afaik meeting the echo simply sets a new spawn position and otherwise counts as a death
but also increases karma like sleeping
so it would get reset? Same for 3rd encounter?
I think so
Karma is DeathPersistentSaveData, it isn't only changed upon hibernation
They'd come with through the portal 
Stuff that comes in the portal is also saved when you die

If it's the first 2 like you said then I believe they just work like regular echoes, but I'd have to test to make sure

Made it myself, I have a fork of Cornifer that works (somewhat) with Watcher
The main things it's still missing are the underwater air pockets and the new sand dune collision

Which is why my Outer Rim map currently looks a million times scarier than it actually is
That's how the locusts are evil crowd think badlands looks like
I forget what the actual sand dune geometry is like but the fact that this room has wind (IIRC) and that the left side is higher than that platform makes me curious if there's some time of ripple boost wind-assisted pounce you could do to get to the upper right entrance
Which would make my favourite Watcher challenge concept, Throne to STARCATCHER07 in one cycle, actually viable
I don't believe it would be, that distance is very far
However foggy did make it up there just yesterday somehow during his casual playthrough on stream
I was looking away when he did it tho
but I'm pretty sure he just used float and the poles around the edge of it

I just used devtools to get up there, but otherwise crossed the desert and city normally and was able to just make it
That was also starting from the Prince's room, I imagine in a challenge scenario you'd start in the throne shelter
Yeah throne shelter would make sense
...Although that shelter probably takes just as much time to exit
If you allowed creatures I think it'd be challenge material
A grapple worm would make things much more interesting imo
my Throne -> Badlands portal landed up there lmao

WORA_THRONES01 to WORA_STARCATCHER07 in one cycle sounds fun. same with WORA_S04 to WORA_AI
AI just feels like a more climactic ending

not much of a challenge
I did that several times casually, it's just not that far
the opposite direction at least has the awkward overhang thing to get over
but even then the rest is just walking
not sure that'd be possible

This doesn't factor in rotted vanilla regions or Daemon, but the formula is (number of region connections)^2 / total number of warps required to reach every other reachable region
Cold Storage seems to be a clear winner because it has six warps out of it, two of which lead directly to the second and third highest-rated regions

every single time I go "please send me to a region with an echo" the monkey's paw curls 
an entire cycle and not a single skink came close enough to the left side of the region to let me get to the echo

what a good region
they migrate away, sometimes you need to kill them to reset their spawns
I think a pinwarp should work?
I finally reached the echo and it didn't show whether I was being sucked in and then saved

(I rolled back the file)
I really don't think that's more practical than just finding a skink

why does sporepuff last for 0.5s
why does one single skink spawn on the left side
why does this exist

every time I die it takes several minutes just to get back to badlands
then I need to cross the entire region
only to get to the longass room and not have a single skink show up for the entire cycle

the locust section is slightly bad but it's not that horrible
I have wasted 1.5 hours of my time so far literally just being screwed by RNG
over and over and over

time spent getting badlands and turbulent pump echoes: 2.5 hrs
time spent getting every other echo, including going through outer rim for one: 1hr
I didn't even get the TP echo, I gave up and went to heat ducts from an AR warp instead cause it screwed me with barnacle spam 4 times in a row
Badlands one is one of the ones you can just leave the screen with
echo doesn't have to be on screen as long as you're in the same room

the nice thing about this run is that it's almost certain to be possible no matter the random warp seed, I got a pretty rough seed but you'd have to get a crazy bad one to get locked out of it being possible
since you have so much leeway with fatigue
(the bad thing about it is that it might become impossible in like a week or whenever they update the game)
At least someone did it before they patched it 🥹
Praying they don't remove the exploit and just remove the code locking gates tho 🙏

Also you can reset another campaign on your save to refresh watchers seed

I tried giving fruit and dead mice
Well i probably did it wrong
but unless you do a bunch of it it tends to make them want to eat you more than anything
The highest you can bring it to is just ignore tho
Yeah and it's bugged so they stop being nervous around you and start wanting to eat you before getting to the ignore stage

even at ignore stage in my experience they kinda grab you with their legs, I'd recommend just staying away from them in general (if you want to be safe) 
Precipice warp my beloved someday I will prove you're possible without cheats
But you cant use them as squidflight tamed lizard
they do specifically target the most dangerous enemies, they'll target red lizards but not caramels
so my own interpretation I guess was that they see you giving them something and they're like ah! tough predator! must be worth a lot of food pips :)

It's just not set in all of the vanilla regions
Except for the globally applied ones
So they're able to for example go to precipice on their own, which has been the only roadblock besides rng preventing us from warping straight to underhang from shoreline
This would be the only way to visit five pebbles on the current patch, but it's locked behind karma gates like everything else

Did it with warp mod, just normal surv dialogue 
Id still like to see him legit 
It's the only 3 regions that are otherwise blocked off if the gate issue wasn't a thing
they really went out of their way for the karma gates

There's a line of code that essentially just boils down to "if you have ripple level, gates won't open"
Which means even if we had a way to remove the ripple karma we'd still be out of luck because the portal ability is locked behind having ripple

Truly a lose lose situation
The only hope is if we find a way to gatewarp with portals, but how region loading works with them is, well, nebulous at best

Challenge idea? Exploring/discovering every region (including rotted ones) without infecting the healthy ones
apparently OR has one way warps to Daemon, but I don't remember if Daemon leads back to any of the normal regions in this case
Iirc daemon leads to shattered and a karma flower for a random warp
I believe the first region you spawn in gets infected when you get to it
So you might have some issues there 
Just exclude the first one in the rules
it's actually pretty easy to do

i feel like it's just really hard to make a shorter challenge with how watcher's campaign is structured
it always ends up too similar to a vanilla challenge and/or generally not fun

there's some ideas I've found to be much more interesting than just "go to every region with x restriction"
I'm not great with thinking of challenges myself tho so I'm not much of one to talk

most of my challenge ideas are questionable at best and ridiculous at worst
Simply use the portal skip (or however we want to call the tech for dying after the echo) to get enough ripple for making portals, and then go from a room that is not infected 
Also iirc with a lot of luck, the rooms with CC or SH echo could survive not getting infected, since meeting vanilla echoes advances rot progression by 20 cycles and that doesn't guarantee any specific spread

Keep sporepuff in your belly and learn movement tech for room 1

You infect the first region no matter what, and need to reach OR with max Ripple to reach Daemon. Also all the rest of rotted regions would be gambling that the random exit sends you to OR (go to Daemon) or the already rotted starting region (easier if you are at ripple 1)
I was already told there were too many "long" challenges suggested prior to mine
Without the rotted random regions it may be fine (Evolution tends to send you to OR if you have high ripple)

I did try that one time when I ran out of time and the skink never showed up

only the best will survive tho, so quantity doesnt matter as long as the new one is a better one

I guess most people probably haven't interacted enough with the mechanics to come up with interesting shorter challenges
I do find surprises engaging but I'd love to know the challenges under consideration too
I'm not very creative so even though I know a ton about the mechanics by this point I've pretty much got nothing 
tbh it could be interesting to try it out, and if there are no issues to turn mostly or fully public challenge creation into a standard. I feel like having more opinions is always a positive, and the fact that only helpers can participate in challenge creation is kinda silly and meaningless already.
the one stipulation is that id wanna keep it locked down in a thread like this so people can choose to be unspoiled
and it could be tough to stop people from taking it elsewhere
but I do agree

Though I highly recommend before we actually vote on the challenges, we put them under a good bit of scrutiny as well, we have had some bad challenges slip our radar before in regards to playtesting

Yeah fair, but even then a good few community challenges were made just because they were meant to be silly rather than serious, so its best to just see how it goes

Non-helpers still lack the ability to discuss the challenge ideas, and cannot see or react to certain decisions. This would be a much more open approach

I recommend searching up a bit, the chat was rather slow and there were many amazing discoveries (but not so many good ideas)

nah it uses ownedItemsOnGround, which will never be filled in with a thrown weapon
my theory was that the item being read once would stop it from being read for the hit dialogue with the throw

so you need to leave it and never return
The echo is replaced by a portal once you receive the karma increase

if you get chimney echo last I think itll be sunlit, which is tiny
so you can sacrifice sunlit
and then just never go to rim or UE

The LF one will have sentient rot, but the rest don't directly have it.
However, there will be at least 40 ticks of rot spread simulation.
CC one has one directly next to it, but the SH one is fairly distanced.
In Vanilla regions, the chance for it to spread through a room connection is 10% per rain cycle tick.
So even the CC one is possible, failing a 10% 40 times in a row is a possible ~1.5% chance.
So this means that if im fast enough/ only spend 1 cycle for the other 2 echoes i can not infect my starting region????
Meeting Spinning Top makes every vanilla region simulate 20 cycles worth of sentient rot spread.
Hence at least 40 ticks of rot spread simulation
so you wanna go for shaded and get lucky
Or use the portal skip and make your own portal from a non-rotten room 🙏
SH echo is 5 rooms away from nearest rot room

There is a better explanation if you scroll up in the chat, but basically dying directly after echo finishes the monologue will cause the portal to open and you to gain rippleLevel but not forcing a save point, meaning you can technically get rippleLevel high enough to make your own portals before you ever save outside a vanilla region

No. But since the portal opened and crossing it no longer forces a save point, you can just explore and meet other echoes and do the same tech, each time increasing rippleLevel by 1 while your shelter is still in a vanilla region
As long as you never enter an echo portal on the same cycle it spawned

That'd make the difference, and if rot spread is death persistent
bonus spread cycles only apply to vanilla echoes
so to reliably not infect the starting region:
- meet Spinning Top for the third time but don't enter the rift for the cycle; either shelter, quit to menu or die
- go through the rift, get to AR, meet the echo and quit to main menu before you are sucked in
- go through the rift again, AR > TD echo and quit to menu
- with ripple level 3, make your own rift away from any rotted rooms
(alternatively starve in AR to go to TD, either works)

it's a little finicky but if you leave the room during the last line of dialogue and don't reenter you can go starve n come back (saves having to go through AR again, and allows your shelter to be in any region rather than shaded or wherever)
