I'm stuck in ||Outer Rim|| and I can't seem to get out. I'm on the western end of the region closest to ||Throne|| and there doesn't seem to be a way for me to leave.
Whenever I try to use the ||special portal ability|| it stops me and says || this fringe is already too unstable|| I wanted to try to find a karma flower but I couldn't find any

And found the room with a small field of Karma flowers

The portal map seems to have more information than meets the eye. The dotted lines probably mean one-way connections and the white vs purple border colour on the regions might indicate if you have met the Echo there or not?

I'm thinking that my colour theory is most likely correct since I did meet the Echo in Coral Caves and that area is marked as purple but I don't remember if it was always, as I definitely did not meet an echo in Unfortunate Evolution, at the same time I don't think there is an Echo there as I am 90% sure I explored that entire area and it was just a straight line.

So if you found an echo in a region, then look for different connections if indicted on the map

weird, I thought that it was based on one way connections with the direction of the movement of the dotted line representing the direction of travel but the line is moving in the opposite direction.
