yes, there is an ending to this game. there is also ALWAYS somewhere to go: you'll find it pretty obvious when you reach a dead end.
if you find this way really tough, you could backtrack a few areas to somewhere easier for you. there's always a connection to another area, so you should be able to find an alternate path behind you if the one ahead is too challenging

technically yes - there is only one final area that you HAVE to cross to reach the ending for survivor. but generally, no, you can go through any path and still reach the ending of the game
