#Trying (and failing) to survive

Sorry for deleting your initial message, it had spoilers in it. It's reposted below for anyone looking to read this thread later down the line.

I'm completely new to the game, and decided to choose Survivor for my first playthrough.
I am on cycle 7 as I'm writing this, and in my first area after spawn (Industrial Complex).
My main problems are

  • Vultures inhibit most further progression (or so I feel, since I can't seem to reach the 1st starting area's topmost exit)
  • I am not able to hibernate with any regularity (I only managed to get to this area's entry karma level through a karma flower, which I have now lost, and dumb luck), since I can't get enough food in a cycle (especially shorter ones).
Can anyone give me pointers on how I can solve these problems, or tell me if they are intentional and I need to come back later?

I'm not sure about Karma itself, though.

#

I've seen new players not realize what it's called.

hmm, is it OK if I paraphrase them?
'the flying things', 'the 2nd area if you follow the yellow guy', 'the yellow flower'

It'd be best if you put it in ||spoiler tags||, methinks hunterglee

ok, thanks for the advice!

# feral salmon May I ask what part of the message contained spoilers, so I can prevent posting ...

As for your original post/question... I can give you some pointers, but I recommend just spending your time figuring it out. Nothing is one-way, and one of the main aspects of the game is to explore. Since you said you're on low karma, it's a good time to experiment and see what works and what doesn't, and use the period of no-death "punishment" as an opportunity to maybe just run in a direction and see what you find.
As for where you go... overseer will give you general directions. They will be there regardless of what you do right now.
As for vultures... I can give you specific tips on avoiding them if you really want, but again, I highly encourage experimenting or finding an alternate route slugthumbsup

I don't know if re-using these threads is the recommended way of using these channels, but

is enabling 'remix' for the 1st playthrough considered cheating, or harmful in any way?

raven jacinth
#

It's not considered cheating, and you can reuse these as much as you like (unless you have dlc content then move to there) The devs released it along side the dlc for free to add some features to the game that can make it easier, or simpler

#

most of remix's major changes are fully configurable, you can turn them on or off

#

many would be considered cheating or harmful and unfortunately some are enabled by default (doesn't help that the UI is unintuitive and most new players won't know what any of the options do)

#

the worst one is loading screen tips, but there's a few other ones that I recommend disabling

am I the only one who feels rain world is dangerously close to being a rage game?

# feral salmon am I the only one who feels rain world is dangerously close to being a rage game...

No, but those who do generally either quit or get over it in the first several hours of gameplay. This generally involves a change in mindset, which often includes:

  • recognizing the open-ended nature of the game and the intrinsic nature of progression
  • recognizing that death has no penalty
  • recognizing that every attempt, whether or not it ends in a death, is an opportunity to learn something new and gradually become better at surviving

A few qiestions I had:

  • is it possible to 'bookmark' areas on the map, e.g. 'there's food here'?
  • I know that, if I take food and hibernate, there will be less food there in the next cycle.
If I take food, die, and respawn, will me taking food affect the supply of food available?

wait, is 'getting stuck when squeezing into holes the wrong way' intentional?

#

(thank god you can fix it by jumping)

probably notmonksilly

I found out pressing 'jump' can fix it

but that seems a very high slowdown

question tho, was movement designed with this in mind, or did it happen and the devs thought 'nah, we're keeping this'

hello darkness my old friend

#

Question: is there any point in the game where backtracking into previous regions is required to finish exploring those in their entirety?

raven jacinth

#

It takes a lot of dedication to fully explore a region in general, but it is not a bad idea to backtrack

feral salmon
#

why do the enemies get to use pipes I can't?

boreal smelt
#

Those are not for you monksilly

feral salmon
#

also, is it normal to need like 10 attempts to get to a region that can be explored?

#

as in, 4 out of 5 times I get into that region with the overhang with the pipes inside (Outskirts), I get eaten by the 2 lizards that spawn there every time, and if I survive those, I only have a 50% or so chance to get to where I need

mint tiger
#

Maybe just don't get eaten by lizors monksilly

In all seriousness, yes. I would consider just about any struggle normal in this game. It is how you get past them (and eventually when you do.)
I've been stuck in this same exact place before on a different scug. It was a nightmare, but with luck and learning from death was how I did it. I believe in you hunterglee

This game is like "if it's difficult it'll become easier the more you do it" (with a couple exceptions of things just flat out being hard lol)

feral salmon

I can point them out as they come, otherwise, I'd be spoiling monksus

feral salmon

(even outside of rainworld)

mint tiger

Ohh. Well, in that case I can say that Rain World is just real life :7

feral salmon
#

wait, does the game play with the bite success chance during default sandbox?

feral salmon
#

oh no,
I just realized I'm not allowed to post here anymore since I've restarted the campaign with the DLC
