I have a theory about the shower gates

So like, they separate each area it seems, and areas separated by them can be vastly different.
I think the gates are in place as markers for biomes and so they don't interfere with eachother too much.
The reason you need specific sleep numerals to get through is because the gates are powered by rain, it needs enough rain cycles to pass to open.
