Trying to figure out this game??? | Rain World | Page 1

Hey all. Professional Rain World noob with a slammin' playthrough of this weird little game. It's not going super well though. I'm about 6.5 hours in and I can't seem to get out of the starting area, Outskirts (At least I think it's the starting area. Not exactly sure). I managed to wonder to an industrial place? But it was awful and I died so many times that I gave up and left. My game theory is that I have to come back with better armor and weapons (is that even a thing? I really have no idea). So far I have found a lot of weird animals like: Demon birds. Money dudes. Lizards of various colors. Also, items like: yellow flower that (seemingly) doesn't do anything, blue orb that doesn't (seemingly) do anything and red plant that doesn't (seemingly) do anything.

I managed to find a way to go down to some sewers? But I can't seem to make it too far in without dying. So I end up respawning outside the door, and I can't open the door because I gotta heal some more, and then when I get through the door I die again, etc. So my questions: is this where I'm supposed to be going? Is there something I'm supposed to be getting? Is there like a double jump somewhere I'm supposed to get? Maybe a gun???

Every item has a use that you have to figure out yourself. As a general rule of thumb: Grab, eat, throw anything new you encounter in various settings. Where the items spawn most often may be a hint to their uses.

You aren't supposed to be going anywhere :) Just explore and see what happens and see what you find. You may have noticed that a little creature seems to follow you around a lot and point to things...

So my only guess is that the symbol points to a gate

By the way. I read somewhere that if you accidentally kill one of nthe lizards that they can "evolve" and become scarier. Well I did that lol. Is it worth it to restart so I don't have to deal with whatever evolutions will happen

Yeah I'm having fun. I just have to let myself take breaks when I get frustrated lol. I made a bunch of progress last time I played though so I feel good about it for now. Before I was not having as much fun

I think there's a lot of this game that just doesn't click right away for me. So many little things that I could easily understand in a couple of words, I have to spend hours tinkering to try to piece together. And that's fine and pretty doable if the mechanics are clearly communicated but so often they're not, and even send mixed messages about their meaning.

#

I'm going to keep with it because I've heard so much about it from reviewers I trust that it's good and it's worth it. I just hope a lot of these core gameplay mechanics eventually become clarified.

Thats also the main reason why the first playthrough helpers exist, because the game gives you nothing to work with to having an occasional tip is nice

From what I can tell there are two gates. One that I took to leave the Citadel, and one mystery one

unfortunately thats just the way the game works, but it's not a softlock. You can always find another way to survive so try exploring different directions

You're doing the trick where you straighten yourself out mid-jump to catch the ledge better, otherwise you would have just faceplanted into the bump and fell off.

There's not a lot to it, it's mostly just filler for practice and/or seeing how the ecosystem works in a controlled environment monklaugh
