#Looking Back at My First Survivor Playthrough (ft. pain)

Hello! I want to share how my very first rain world playthrough went

#

This will contain major spoilers for survivor, so be warned

#

I started out going Outskirts -> Industrial Complex -> Chimney Canopy. So far, all was well

#

I still had deaths and wandered around and acted very scared around lizards - so typical first playthrough stuff

#

cc was the first big hurdle. It took a long time making it up past the first shelter right by the entrance from ic

#

eventually I made it to the top shelter, and from there I was able to get enough karma to make it past a gate

#

I had some deaths close to the gates too

#

but finally I made it to the next region

#

that region was The Wall

#

I am pretty sure I spent at least 5 hours over many days trying to make it up the wall. Literally just trying to make it to another shelter

#

As a new player, that was probably the most miserable experience I have had with the game (although it is close to farm arrays, since I had really terrible rain deer luck)

#

I think eventually I just started a new run in save slot 2

#

I have tagged this as both just documenting and I need help, and here's why:

#

This experience helped me improve certain skills, but I think it also made me worse as others

#

Notably, I have observed a friend (who is a lot better and more experienced than me) play, and she is quite patient, and seems to better understand creature behavior

#

Whereas for me, I eventually overcame my fear of hostile creatures by just becoming indifferent. Deaths didn't matter anymore cause they were the norm. Every single time I left that shelter at the bottom of the wall, I died not even knowing how close or far I was from the shelter up top

#

and right now, I still act very reckless often, with more of a "keep trying till I get lucky" strategy - and by being reckless I lose less time to each failed attempt

#

basically, if I was careful and patient and died anyways, then I felt way worse because it felt like I lost so much time only to die like that. Because it only takes one death to reset all that progress up the wall

#

that is likely not the best way to experience the game though, which is why I am asking for help:

  • did this also happen to any of you?
  • how did you overcome this approach to the game/do you have any tips or suggestions that can help me
  • anything else you think can be useful

wait the wall is close to farm array? huh

#

i feel u but instead of going to chimney i aim for garbage waste and now i have a feeling thats where i will spend for days because in industrial complex i was able to make it back to the same shelter but not in garbage waste lol

# sullen sentinel basically, if I was careful and patient and died anyways, then I felt way worse ...

imo stock up food that's stockable or aim for a good shelter towards the next destination u want to go (but u say u r at the wall which uhhhhhh iirc has very little shelter)
just stock up food and go back to the shelter if possible then on a day withh good long timer (i didnt tick "no randomized rain timer" so some day the rain timer is very short lmao) and try ur best to make a mad dash for it
better yet at least u will always start with food

#

oh, the farm arrays comment was unrelated. That's just the other really frustrating experience I had that also made me drop the game for a week before coming back. Sorry - yeah those are not close

true solstice
#

full stomach + stock up food, take one more nap to save, then on a day with a good long timer try to make a mad dash for it
on day with short timer just venture and hope u die on the way lmao

thats my plan but im in garbage waste so there wasnt really much stockable food and im sick of leeches lol so im not going back for bubble fruit but considering i have yet to make it past an OPEN AIR room alive everytime i got there im tempted to backtrack now

#

its between vultures+pole plants or leeches and tight jumps

sullen sentinel
#

btw how far into the game are you?

#

I don't wanna spoil things

true solstice
#

im fully spoiled actually but spoilers arent allow here

#

its definitely my first paly thru

sullen sentinel
#

ok cool

true solstice
#

im on the other thread

#

rage quit (no i just exit on death) cowboy_sob

sullen sentinel
#

I have beaten Survivior, and most of the msc slugs too

#

lmao

true solstice
#

then how is this a first survivor playthru again XD

sullen sentinel
#

this is mainly me documenting what happened in my first playthrough (I didn't have msc then so it was vanilla), and seeing if there's tips I missed

true solstice
#

for me i just spent 3 days reading game technicals 8 days on lore 2 days on memes

#

ohhhhhh

#

if u have msc activated i think they make u go to the other thread instead

#

but yea i heard things about chimney thats why i went to garbage waste

#

it WASNT SO BAD BUT LEECHES

sullen sentinel
#

that's very fair

#

oh yeah

#

still I'll take leeches over the wall any day

true solstice
#

mine is the RAIN WORL one with like 1.6k messages

sullen sentinel
#

actually I did end up doing the wall route eventually - it is cool

sullen sentinel
true solstice
#

i heard wall only have a shelter at the bottom

#

and one at the top

#

that just looks crazy

sullen sentinel
#

yeah

#

I think the intended for the wall is to go down, not up

#

to go to fp from the wall you need to do some tech anyways

true solstice
sullen sentinel
#

yeah I think the game was telling me "you shouldn't be here" a lot but I was too stubborn

#

Anyways I might have misunderstood the first playthrough guide oops. If this is only meant for players still in their first playthrough, lmk and this can be deleted
